Don was another ripper and for stab passes, Hassa was sublime. Kent in every regard of onfield play reminds me of Hassa  but does not drop kick - the modern game doesn't demand such skills excellence.

A few years back I was among a group of old blokes invited by sponsor AAPT to a session of "training" with the Lions.  Totally stuffed me!  But, at one stage I was involved in a bit of short passing with Jared Brennan, and I pulled out a nifty little stab pass.  Shoulda seen the look on his Jared's!  Kinda like "What the F... was that?..."  Was so funny!  Mind you, I tried to repeat the trick with my second kick, and totally stuffed it up!  LOL

It did amaze those who had not used/seen/imagined the stab pass. Most people that I sent one to who had not received one before - fell over or were badly winded. Haha. Fed the full forwards, though. Sometimes at the very half-second of dispatch of a stab, you just knew it was another goal. Fastest conversion ever. I practised the stab for three years as a junior, and loved it. So did the coach. 30 metres dead straight, lighting fast, never reaching more than 6 feet off the ground up to 30-45 metres ... bring the bullet (7.92 mm) back!

Hassa was my favourite, but the reason I began supporting was the Tassie drop kick at St Kilda junction oval which sailed into centre half forward where a stab kick gave it to Big Bob. Aaahh those were the days.

My last memorable Torp was against West Footscray in the 1966 Under 16 Semi Final played at Kingsville Oval.

I wore the colours of the Sunshine Football Club.

At a boundary throw in about 45 Metres from our goal I was rucking against Laurie Sandilands. I was awarded a free kick - good it was free, didn't get too many other that day though I kicked 2 goals and was named in the Best Players - I kicked a Torp towards goal and it kept sailing and sailing, right through the hi diddle diddle. I ran back to the centre as though I'd meant to kick it.

I love the Torp...

Yep, I can vouch, us Germans know a thing about footy. Just ask the Manns, the Schwartz, the Mueller, the Carl, the Neitz, the Obst, I could go on and on, as we all know by now...

the thing about a torp is that any old dummkopf could accidentally kick a torp by actually just mis-kicking a punt kick

now a stab kick (daisycutter) was truly an art only mastered by a skilled few

Hey, Man, I resemble that. Jack Storey - ex Port player, Sunshine Under 16 Coach, go figure - took me aside one training session and taught me how to kick. Man I was called King Torp, those kicks just kept floating ever onwards... Pity 'bout my drop kicks, let alone a Stabber...Apart from Ernie Steigler and Peter Ramholt, I was the only other dummkopf in the team.
