Who's in your top 8 for 2017?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Delusional demon 82's topic in Melbourne Demons
I actually see a 12-10 record and not making finals as still a pass and good progress. As long as we have a percentage of over 100 unlike St Kilda who got belted most times they lost. A winning season would be a terrific result at this stage regardless of whether we sneak in or sneak out of top 8. -

I actually really rate them and see them as better than us. They have an excellent midfield, are much faster than us, have a better forward line on paper than us (the three tall threats in McCartin, Bruce and Membray), utilise their home ground advantage better than ours and have addresed their Achilles heel - their key defence in Carlisle and Brown. The one thing we had over them is our interstate record. They were atrocious on the road and it's what cost them finals. It pains me to say but I see St kilda finishing 4th-6th this year. -
We appear to be the middle Sunday game so I can't see how it wouldn't be a channel 7 game.
-
Once again, I don't know why people are stressing about the crowd. It's not our home games so it's not our problem.
-
Who cares what crowd this game gets? It's not our problem as we don't collect a cent of the gate proceeds. Id actually argue that we dodged a bullet by not having a home game the same day as the Gran Prix (which in my opinion is the most overrated, costly and pointless event this country has to offer) The other option was playing an away game vs a fired up and emotional Essendon. Not sure which option is worse??

Further to your list, we've only travelled twice in our history for round 1 - 1991 and 1998 both in Perth.

Another chapter in the book of MFC draft stuff ups circa 2007 - 2012 Gysberts and Blease would go down in history as the two worst players to get nominated twice as a rising star. Everytime I think about how important and revered the NAB rising star award is, I then remind myself that these 2 so called "STARS" didn't get nominated just once but TWICE.

Would've rathered have played Essendon at the G. I hope we just play St Kilda the one time. sick of getting out pants pulled down by them twice a year, I wonder who round 2 is? home game at G most likely.

Week Off before Finals has been Retained
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dogs premiership was tainted due to the weeks break. No way they would've beaten West Coast without the break and back to back weeks in Perth. -
Last time we played Geelong at the G we lost by about 70 points in 2014.
-
Whilst it was a much improved and exciting year, had we won the games we we're red hot favourites in (Essendon and Carlton at the G) we would've played finals in 2016 based on the below scenario: Essendon round 2- Their average losing margin was 51 points. Had we put in an average performance and won by 30 points....., Carlton round 22- their average losing margin was 30 points. Had we put an average performance and won by 18 points...,,AND Geelong round 23 - their average winning margin was 42 points. Had we put in an average performance and lost by 42 points ...,,. We would've played finals this year!! I hope this sticks in the guts with the likes of N Jones and Co and we ensure we win these MCG games that we're supposed to.

Apart from Salem and Weideman, 2017 doesn't look like a critical re-signing year. Mahoneys already signalled Salem as his next project and Weideman will surely sign for another 2 without a second thought. Vince is important as well but he did slow down towards the end of the year.

FAREWELL BEN NEWTON VIV MICHIE AND MAX KING
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Newton had 2 absolutely cracking games in 2015 against GC in rd 1 (2 goals) and GWS in rd 23 (3 goals). A shame it didn't work out as he had a bit of class. -
If that's the case, I reckon we're due to play interstate round 1 as we've only travelled twice in our history (1991 and 1998 both in Perth) in the season opener. Fremantle, Adelaide and Brisbane are due to host round 1 with Sydney the likely other team.

Pity he didn't make it as he had something we've always cried out for - Pace! Unfortunately an AFL player also needs half competent disposal. Sadly he didnt.
-
Our home game vs Essendon? Can't and won't happen. I heard that the MCC and the AFL have a gentlemans agreement that Melbourne are to ONLY play away games against Carlton and Essendon at the MCG. Something about ensuring we play more games at the MCG whilst never playing either of them at Etihad. Would seem on the money given we haven't hosted Carlton since 2011 or Essendon since 2010. Furhermore we haven't played Essendon or Carlton at Etihad since 2009.
-
Hopefully we've learnt our lesson from the last 2 losses against them when we clearly took them easy.
-
I heard we're looking at trading out Weideman to GC for their pick 8. Expect Damo Barratt to drop the bombshell 9Am Monday.
-
I'm happy to overpay for him for his experience. Jordan Lewis experience not Shannon Byrnes or Gary Moorcroft experience. I got sick and tired of Roos blaming our youth and inexperience as the reason for most of our losses this year. Lewis, Melksham and Hibberd will hopefully get us out of the bottom 4 of youngest teams.

2016 Player Review - # 23 Bernie Vince
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A slightly disappointing year by Vince for reasons outlined by others. Looked totally disinterested in the last 2 games of the year and probably played his career worst game against Geelong. -
If Hawthorn get Mitchell & O'Meara then ...
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like the rule the AFL introduced regarding future draft picks. A club must have a first round draft pick twice over a 4 year period (2015-2018), unless the club traded back into the first round. So Geelong and Collingwood will not be able to trade future first round draft picks this year and next, thereby reducing the chances of them trading in a big fish this year. I cannot see how Collingwood can trade in Rockliff without a first round pick this year and being unable to trade a future first rounder. Assuming Hawthorn depart with their first round draft pick and future first round draft pick for Mitchell and O'Meara, they will have little bargaining power next year. -
4 years for an inconsistent player in Melksham is a big leap of faith. I feel like an idiot bagging Collingwood supporters for offering Mayne a 4 year contract, only to then realise we actually also offered Melksham the same length contract.
-
Who cares. All it means is that the second round pick we give to Essendon will be 1 pick worse down the draft, which is a good thing right?
