  1. Thanks 666 ( pronounces sexsexsex if you're a Kiwi). Gee, Oscar has skinny legs!
  2. Maybe they could have a quiet word with Josh Kelly to join them!
  3. Good one 666. Another reminder that a picture is worth a thousand words.
  4. Garland was a forward in his younger days and did a good job when moved there for a game or two a few years back. i wouldn't see him as a permanent forward, rather as a "surprise" forward. I think it was in a game against Collingwood (???) he took everyone by surprise and kicked 3 or 4.
  5. Great photos 666, the lads look incredible. Thanks for the effort you've put in, very much appreciated.
  6. And if you don't have Foxtel, the game's on YouTube. I'll watch it myself this afternoon on the big screen using my Apple TV.
  7. Travis Johnstone was so adept with either foot it was difficult to know which was his preferred (although it was his right I think). And when he was on song his evasive skills using either foot were sublime! And who can forget Bernie Vince's left foot snap for a goal at Geelong in 2015- from around the 50 meter line on the flank. One foot good two feet better!
  8. And please IT if you do win one - and I hope you do- please, please wear it the right way round (you know, with the peak facing the front)!
  9. He was a wonderful football player, and I remember him launching those drop kicks from about the centre of the punt road oval right to the goal square. And on the drop kick ( which I could never master): has any player used it in recent years? Or have coaches banned its use because it can be so inaccurate?
  10. I agree, but unfortunately it's part of his job to "entertain" the paying customer. However he is a bit of a character who could be used quite successfully in the commercial media (certainly better than a couple of the clowns on Foxtel).
  11. I've said this in past years and I'll say it again: thank you for the reports! Keep giving us the training reports/observations/photos they're all great and much appreciated especially for us country folk (and for those living OS). ps: I read somewhere that H was a no show!
  12. I remember Greg Wells saying that he always kept an eye on Melbourne matches when playing for Carlton. And he still follows the Dee's with passion. Someone may be able to answer this: Stan Alves seems to hold a grudge against Melbourne. Why?
  13. I reckon his family would excommunicate him if he didn't.
  14. John Lord and Bryan Kenneally are both heavily involved with the MCC as tour guides and are still passionate Dee's supporters. I met Noel McMahon at a function last year and he is also still a passionate supporter of the club. How many former players who on retirement revert to supporting the club they followed as a kid, I don't know, I'm sure a few do, however I'm equally sure the camaraderie of playing a sport at such an elite level would leave its mark. For instance, would Nathan Jones upon retirement go back to supporting StKilda? I doubt it. However someone like Chris Dawes who has been something of a journeyman in football my go back and support the team of his childhood, Geelong.
  15. Do you remember the tie front vests worn by some teams/players a few years ago? I'm pretty sure a couple of opposition players received finger injuries in matches against them. However I reckon the "watches" come off when intense man on man training starts.
  16. I had a look at the Richmond game last night. Wagner's game was very good, especially some of his work in close. I had a feeling at seasons end he would be upgraded, and who knows what the future holds for him. He will be battling a good number of players for a spot for sure, but he proved to me that he is competent enough to play at senior AFL level. Josh gets a full pre season under his belt and the competition for places in the senior side gets just that little bit tougher. And I'm sure neither Josh or the match committee want to see him as a senior player languishing at Casey like Dean Terlich.
  17. Rob Hickmott: played 2 games for the Dee's. I must confess I cannot remember them. But good luck to him and well done on the win today.
  18. I trust you are talking about Jordan Lewis and not Chip Frawley or Tom $cully? Because this thread has been seriously de-railed! However if it is Jordan Lewis to whome you refer, I suspect that we are at least 3 years too late for your wish to come true. If we get two good years from him we'll be doing well and it would be seen (as was Daniel Cross) as a damn good investment for the development of our list.
  19. It was Cam Pedersen slipping a tackle in the back pocket that set up that play, and of course Jordie's handball as well. The Essadon players were caught flat footed on the members wing with Melbourne able to get clear along the centre corridor. And just on the Hawthorn game: Derwayne's commentary spoils it for me!
  20. It bemuses me that low numbers seem so important. Why? Ron Barassi wore 31, not 3 or 1. And many other very fine players have worn numbers in the 30s and 40s. What's so special about wearing a low number? It's not as if the game was like rugby where every player number signifies a position on the ground. (I wore 14)!!!
  21. I notice we have almost 22,000 members for next season already. I'm not sure how that compares with '16, can anyone bring up comparable figures please
  22. I was surprised by what I saw, young Joel looked like he'd player the game for years. I would expect to see a lot of him in Casey firsts next year, and while I don't expect him to be quite at AFL standard by the end of the year, he could well be kicking the door down by season 2018.
  23. Over the years the club has been responsible for recruiting many, many over the hill players to its ranks, the term "hacks" springs to mind. Bernie is however not one of them. I believe that Bernie Vince and Daniel Cross were inspired mature recruits to the team and were very much part of the reason for our climb from near oblivion. Frankly I was concerned when I learnt we were getting Bernie as his reputation as a "party boy" preceded him and I wondered just what sort of influence he would have on the team. His influence has of course been very positive and he and Cross have definitely been a real positive for the whole team. I trust he plays on for a couple more years at least.
  24. Max is atypical of the modern footballer, and for that we should be greatful. That little kid in the advert shows just how big a cult figure he has become in a season. And a kid dressed as Max gets other kids excited and wanting to see the real thing. And that adds up to young memberships, something the club desperately needs. Of course a move up the ladder also helps, that's a given, but Max to Jack to Jesse will get 'em through the gates in droves (we hope)!
