  1. Tongue in cheek there. You do realise Pendles was a Dee's supporter as a kid!
  2. He had (I believe) a great grandfather who played for Collingwood in the 1930's. He also had a relative (uncle?) who played a few games for Melbourne, so he had a foot on both camps.
  3. Didn't Champion Data rate the Pies midfield as the comp's best and ours as the worst! What an effing joke!
  4. Yelled at him in the first half. Yelled for him in the second. (Sh*t I'm a contrarian)!
  5. 6: Jones 5 : Petracca 4: Oliver 3: Jetta 2:Watts 1:Pedersen
  6. Were they taking memberships? We are only about 20 off 41k!
  7. Yes, The Saturday Paper would suit Flanagan perfectly, and for general articles, not just sport.
  8. I'm pretty pee'd off by this news, Flanagan is a master of the English language and I will miss him. The Age is in decline but what alternative is there? The Hun and Aus are simply mouthpieces for Murdoch's extreme libertarian views, with the former little more than a comic book and the latter intellectually warped in its pursuit of any media outside the Murdoch purview. At least Ross Gittins, Peter Martin and Mark Kenny are still (I hope) with Fairfax. Otherwise may I with respect recommend The Conversation. It's an online journal hosted by a number of academic institutions and the place where you can read Michelle Grattan. Excellent analysis today of the Finkel Review and a piece on proposed changes to sport anti siphoning laws.

  10. Watching Melbourne play is like having your wisdom teeth extracted without anaesthetic.
  11. 6: Hibberd 5: Jetta 4: Hannan 3: Viney 2: Tyson 1: Jones And just on Hunt: he should stop trying to be heroic so often. And that dash through the centre and kick directly to a North player - yuck!!!
  12. The team is travelling along quite well at the moment without Gus. Would the team benefit from having a perfectly fit and functioning Angus Brayshaw available right now? You bet! However it would be best for Gus and for the club to have him return in tip top condition either later this year or at the start of 2018. Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Jones, Salem, Vince, Hunt, Lewis and others are carrying the load just now, and with Gawn to return (we are told) sooner than expected the team is travelling along quite well. Interesting to speculate, if this was the Melbourne team of 5 or 6 years ago people would have been screaming for Gus to get back out on the field ASAP. Times and personnel have certainly changed.

  14. Hi Skuit, I used to enjoy watching Ajax (I-ox if I remember correctly) when living in Europe many years ago. Johan Cruyff was my favourite player, the Robert Flower of soccer i.e. graceful and elegant. I certainly remember Ajax as a powerhouse in those days. ps: how's the weed over there (no, not him, it!)
  15. Some great quips from Lou, but I particularly remember the one he made on I think the footy show about Sam Newman waiting outside the Royal Women's Hospital for his next girlfriend to be born! As a young boy I went to a talk by Lou at my sisters private school, he had us all in stitches, I remember it as one of the best speeches I've ever heard. Lou was a good bloke RIP.
  16. What was the actual headline please, so I can google the article?
  17. Agree. 6: Viney 5: Frost 4: Hunt 3: Oliver 2: Lewis 1: Pederson
  18. After what the club has gone through, 40,000+ members is wonderful - and it's money in the bank! Now, get along to games and make a noise!
  19. Also Ding, when you get to the ground, get your daughter to go to the ticket window to the left of the members entrance and ask for a balcony pass if any are still available. This lets you sit on level 2 or 3 (my favourite is level 3). Otherwise you're restricted to level 1 or 4, still OK but 2 or 3 better.
  20. Project forward 4/5 years, Clarry's played around 100 games and has improved as expected. What does it take money wise to keep him from the wolves at the door?
  21. Little Champ LH, you got the second word correct but little he's not- the kid's around 187/188 (about 6'2"). I sat near the interchange on Sunday, Clayton's a bluddy good size. And incidentally Frost looks quite a bit taller than his listed height of 194: I'm sure clubs fudge the stats!
  22. The name of this thread should be changed from Clarence Oliver to Clearance Oliver!
