GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide

Don’t want to plant a “told you so” stake in the ground? -
Umpire Margetts is a bit of a bad-luck charm for Dees

Dean Margetts is the dreaded umpire #6. No way he's impartial. -

Technically Canberra is in a territory, not a state. -
She's probably thinking "I could do that"

You never know Jaded. The club have a number of measures that aren’t obvious to people outside the clubs inner circle. Or people with eyes. Or fans who have half a clue.

We lost this one in the guts and [censored] kicking for goal. But if umpire 6 is officiating the grannie, and we’re in it, then there’s no way he’s going to let us get over the line. He stiffed us in the Sydney game as well. Thanks to whoever shot his dog.

Good detective work….

Maybe they have?

Wouldn't have thought so Titan - the club have made noises about how much work is involved in making a change like this with all the functions etc. We saw this in round 1 when we were scheduled to play the Dockers at the G and Essendon made noises to relocate from Marvel to the G to get more fans to the game. Strange times though, anything is possible I guess. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/bombers-ask-for-clash-against-hawks-to-be-relocated-20210301-p576uq.html

Local media pundits not taking MFC as a serious threat.
In Harmes Way replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wouldn't put money on the fixture staying as is for the rest of the season. -
Goody has been saying since the Geelong game that the connection between Gawn and the inside mids is an area they are continuing to work on, and would prefer not to have to build an attack from D50 via opposition sharked centre clearance. With a 4xAA ruckman (probably 5xAA after this year), and the quality of inside mids at our disposal, we really should be better than 12th in the league for centre clearance differential at -19 overall. I reckon this, plus a 2nd KPF are the two glaring gaps at the moment between us and a flag. Source: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/th-melbourne-demons?advv=Y

I'd like some help understanding a play in the second quarter where McDonnald-Tipungwuti ran through the protected zone after Clarry had taken a mark (not following a player), and then doubled back as soon as the umpire called play on to tackle Clarry (still in the protected zone, behind the mark). About 6m away from the umpire in plain view. Why wasn't this 50m?

Forget prelims and grannies - we need to win a minimum of 12* games first to actually make the finals. * Most likely

They've all played football and Bailey is a ladder.

I’m sure I’m on my own here but I’d give Viney a week at Casey given he hasn’t played for 9 weeks with a fair component of that off legs. I reckon Sparrow has done enough over the last 5-6 weeks that he gets another go. I’d give BBB a go for Weids also.

I hope we don’t play another game this year at the SCG, we didn’t play that ground well at all. Back at the G, we’re a much better chance. Yes that beat the Hawks last week, and we are coming off the bye - but their previous game 3 was ago vs Tigers showed they aren’t a 4 quarter team and fell away at the end. This bodes well for us and I think we’ll be too good (hopefully).

As much as I love Jack Viney, I reckon his feet are too unreliable to give him back the captaincy. I think our current structure will carry us for anther 3-4 years fortunately. At that point, there could be several options which again is a fantastic problem to have.

I reckon our 9 goal win against the pies last year was our best. Lets do it again. Steak and mushroom pie from the bakery here, I’ll leave MasterChef to the telly.

Nathan Buckley Steps Down as Collingwood Coach
In Harmes Way replied to roy11's topic in Melbourne Demons
Or at least an inexperienced coach who has been working within a successful footy club (or clubs) for a number of years and knows how to handle differing noise and expectations btw Round 4 vs Prelim Final. I can't see them hiring from within this time. It's an interesting consideration on what makes a good coach - Brett Ratten who I have a great deal of respect for isn't getting the best out of what I think is a pretty good list (based on last year). I don't rate Clarko as highly (I reckon Fagan was doing a lot of work in the background when they were successful) but he's not doing anything special with a sub par list. Long may their ineptitude continue. -
The game last night reminded me of a 1980's game where both sides kicked 22 goals. Crap defence on both sides. I hope the AFL are strategically looking at how to improve the standard of umpiring, including simplification of the rules (it can't just be poor judgement by all of them). These are supposed to be the best umpires in the country. I find myself screaming at the TV for non-Melbourne games now, which is my lowest point.

Nice work @demonstone! Too smart (old school) for me.

What they're saying down at Lulie Street
In Harmes Way replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Coupled with the fact AF that 12 wins is a pass mark for finals. We can use this fact to both setup and subsequently come back from the break with a mindset for actions to get us deep into September, rather than "we still have to get there". -
University research on fans' views of racism in the AFL
In Harmes Way replied to theacademic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good luck with the findings @theacademic. Timely with Adam Goodes declining to be included in the Hall of Fame.
