WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I like the idea of swapping our future first for their future 2nd. They can death ride us for a top 10 pick, we are aiming to make it pick 14-18 for what will assuredly be pick 19. Then you add our 23 in so they're at least getting a minimum pick 15-20 and satisfying their desire for an outright 1st. We might want a 3rd rounder back though for this year's draft. Out: 2020 pick 23 2021 Pick 1-18 In: Ben Brown 2020 pick 40 (Or whatever it is) 2021 pick 19-36

Err, we too have an exciting brand, are a few tweaks away, some new recruits and another year of development from competing, just like Carlton. Never said we weren't. The reference to Teague being approachable and friendly, and the players developing a good connection with him and his vision, is the major selling point by contrast. Teague doesn't come with the baggage of 17th and 9th AFTER making a prelim. IE he's not 4 years into a stint, under major review and have his job very much on the line like Goodwin. Harder and harder to sell hope as each year of failure passes. I thought you might be been clever enough to figure that out without jumping down my throat and sooking about me not pumping up the MFC like I did Carlton. It's obvious we have great unrealised potential as well.

The cynic in me might say it's purely money. However the way they played v Port shows they have an exciting brand that just needs a few tweaks, another year of development and some new recruits, like the Saints have shown. However don't underestimate Teague. Like Fagan, he comes across as a very approachable and naturally friendly person. Players might simply have developed a good connection in an interview not only with him, but with the vision he's sold them?

Oliver Rumours on Footy Classified
Freo would be getting a 25 year old version of Fyfe, Carl replace Cripps with a younger version, and the MFC avoid the dreaded collection of pick 5-10s, and get an established gun of the competition for 3-5 years and a pick 8 or so for a decent kid. Not sure what better the club could do? Throw in Hogan? If it's picks, then Pick 8, future 8 and 22. Meh. Give me Fyfe for a few years and we might just have a premiership window that opens up for a few years. (With other obvious list improvements)

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Fair enough. I forgot about preseason games, silly me. I wonder if the AFL will bother though next year, might not be worth any clubs going interstate, they might just have a couple of scratch matches or intraclub stuff. not sure if it's enought to work out the best forward dynamic.

How does McD return to form before that question is answered? If we get Brown, he and our starting lineup from mid last year, start in the firsts (Weid+Jacko) McD is in the 2nds, improving his game and waiting for an opportunity through form or injury.

I recall Troy Chaplin leaving on bad terms too? Maybe Port were onto something.

Finals Week 1
- Trade Targets
I loved this Max fox footy graphic so much that I had to pause and rewind repeatedly to catch it in the split second. Seems an apt response here ?- Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
Greenwood tagged Kelly out of the game last night. It's a useful hand to have up your sleeve come finals time. Not out of date at all.- Finals Week 1
De Goey winning the Norm Smith with a bag of 5 and fronting court on rape charges the following Monday. A truelly awful finale to season 2020.- Trade Targets
What if the team dynamics improve to such a degree that lesser players elevate themselves and become established... IE Bring in a KPF forward with a Brayshaw pick and suddenly small forwards and half forwards improve. Kick more goals from lesser entries and your inside mids get more of a centre square look in with some momentum and less fatigue. Take into account the flow on effects of getting the right trade in. Who knows, Someone like Sparrow, Harmes or someone else could instantly replace Brayshaw with a team playing well. Wouldn't we like to find more suprise packets from our list or draft recruits? It only comes about through opportunity. Plenty of late picks or rookies throughout the AFL have elevated and established themselves. How stale if we had the same midfield in 3 years time. Can guarantee we'll be in the same place on the ladder, age development or not. Maybe the club has its eye on a freo first round pick and knows with absolute certainty that the midfielder they have their eye on, will out perform Brayshaws '2019-20 output immediately, and have a higher ceiling than Brayshaws 2018 in 3 years time. Could be a bigger sunk cost fallacy risk to persist with Brayshaw.- Yze is a Demon Again
I hope Yze never becomes head coach at the MFC, but instead joins another club as head coach AFTER helping Goodwin become a premiership coach IE I hope 2021 isn't so much of a failure that Yze becomes an interim coach. A 2022 finals series is a long way away.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
As for cap space, I think the flow on effect of having a functioning forward line with an experienced KPF, will rapidly improvement the development of our 10-22 players and depth, and in turn will offset losing a 1-10 quality midfielder if they want to leave for a bigger contract.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I'd be extremely skeptical of anyone that is saying we don't need Brown with how our game plan functions or That J. Cameron costs too much to recruit. So go into next year with an unchanged forward line? It's the happy clapper syndrome in full effect, in denial about where we're at. Waiting for the switch to be flicked. You build a style around the pieces you have. Bring in Ben Brown and you do the same. Go back a few years and they're probably the ones pointing to an outside runners high uncontested possession ratio to illustrate their softness and why we shouldn't recruit them; "Not Goodys type of player" - Absolutely fatal logic that has set the club back a few years.- Farewell Oscar McDonald
Curious that Port supporters over on Reddit seem the most interested in bringing in a tall KPD. Just wait until Riewoldt and Lynch monster them! #21 for #16-18 #46 for #52-54 AND YOU GET OMAC. What a deal! They'll probably find some one better. Although I do agree that OMac could perform better in a new environment and don't subscribe to him being useless. He's only out because his contract is finished and Tomlinson has 3 more and can play his position. Similar scenario with Frost being overlooked for OMac last year. Not about ability but cap management.- Jack Watts Retires
Rumour is he was driving Mrs Daisy to Church. City of them n all.- The Heath Shaw Thread
And halfway through next year when Goodwin is fired, we can appoint him interim coach, be hypnotized by some improvement in effort, before bottoming out completely in 2022 with him at the helm, and then deciding to trade Gawn, May and Oliver and rebuilding the list in 2023 ?? Shawly not!- Farewell Braydon Preuss
Goodwins coaching record with and without Steven May, suggests we should trade him back for Hogan. Yup, correlation doesn't always equal causation ?- Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
Id have faith that Geelong would not hold us to ransom on accepting pick 35, instead of swapping 17 for 47, when we've just let Viney walk to them for nothing. The 47 (3rd rnd pick) I think would make it pass the tampering sniff test as deanox said with it equating to 27. I can't see our club wanting to give everything up for 35. And when I say everything I mean the Tyson trade and development, as well as the 2 years of Preuss development. Geelong would know this and that GWS or Sydney are waiting in the wings with a pick/player trade.- Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
Demands is a pretty strong word. I'm thinking of this as a more amicable handshake agreement between two clubs that are on good terms trades wise. Geelong and Adelaide came to a similarly amicable arrangment over the Dangerfield trade when he was a RFA. Adel didn't force it and Geelong agreed to giving 9, 30 and Dean gore. I think danger was actually at the forefront of making sure Adel were well compensated. Geelong would be happy only giving up 17 for Viney, Preuss and 47 imo as a combo and avoiding a matched bid trade, and we'd be happier getting 17 and AFL compo. Preuss is anywhere between a 20-50 depending how desperate a club is, so overvaluing him slightly for the sake getting us an extra 1st round seems win/win for both parties 11, 17 and 21. That's port Adelaide levels of injecting 3 top class kids into a team over the current 16-22 ranked players marginally AFL/VFL level. Think Rozee Butters Dursma! - Trade Targets
