But he has a team with very few high first round draft picks... Clarko is so God tier that he probably thinks it would be too easy to take MFC to a premiership.
-
They can also add an Andrew McLeod type in Izak Rankine who's junior highlights featured unimaginable forward craft, if they get his body right and he doesn't head back to SA. Looking evident that Gil will have his wish of the two expansion clubs competing for premierships for the next decade.

Why should Hibberd and Jetta be dropped after a poor performance, but not Melksham though? Seems like double standards there. Crucial for us back in 2018? We've been worked out since, and have to rethink how we function going forward. I'd definitely add Weid/Brown for AVb and Bennell for Melksham

Sounds like a moderators nightmare

I think Clarko wouldn't put Gunston in the goal square and instruct his mids to dump it on his head all game.
-
How could any midrange half forward cope with that kind of pressure though? You're thrusted into full forward out of position and pretty much expected to be our only consistent avenue to goal. I'd be missing set shots too, like many other full forwards have been doing in recent years.
-
Maybe he shouldnt have the weight of both our entire teams forward entries and the two biggest defenders on the opposition put onto his shoulders by our coaching...
-
Did you notice the Viney scrimmage yesterday at our half fwd line, where he was bursting through a string of tackles and gaining ground in the wrong direction for 10-20m before it broke out to Cats players all at the back, and they took it up the ground? I let out a big groan for that one. He played well, made some kicking errors, fought hard, but the limitations of this messy rugby style of inside contest are becoming more and more evident.

We're in a great position for 2021. Imagine how psychologically crushing it would be sitting in the top 4 with a big percentage, ready to break a multiple decade premiership drought when the season is called off. ?
-
How good was it though? Coupled with the perfect set shot, I think it was worth an entire year of waiting. /s

Well given we are one of the best teams for inside 50s, JD would be so big a point of difference with his height and aerial skills to our current set up, that kicking 2.4, 1.5 or 3.3 would stil be a pretty big improvement to our fwd line anyway. Those missed shots are not going to be fast rebounds from wasted entries, but behind kick outs to locked in congestion. And he would not be starved of opportunities to improve, so long as he got on the field. Then perhaps we can finally talk of having a player capable of kicking (gasp) 4 or 5 again...

I dislike the notion that teams can lose by a few errors, robbing the opposition a right of reply on field if we didn't make them. eg If we'd touched it on the goal line, then Geelong would've just upped the ante on building a lead sooner instead. 1 mistake wasn't the difference at all. The whole match was littered with poor micro-decisions like taking on a tackle when you should give it off. I question whether some of these players are playing the wrong code. Anyway, These errors all just accumulate over time and amount to gifting the opposition goals against the play that just bury you. It takes a lot more effort off field to coach those out of the game. To just summarize 100 mins of footy to "we lost because of a few defensive errors that cost goals" is just an absolute understatement.

Melksham - Dan Butler's position I think a live wire goalsneak would've been more creative around the goals and not wasted all the opportunities Melk did. Why are we playing half forwards deep and trying to turn them into Gary Ablett?

Say what you want about the Saints, but I really hope they continue to improve and challenge for a flag, either with us, or before us. Makes for a far more enjoyable competition. Suck it up Richmond

We could really do with Patrick Dangerfield at Melbourne, he's far superior to anyone we have in our midfield. Am I doing this correctly?

Impressed with what I heard on fox footy tonight as he answered questions on the upcoming game. I see in his resume he was at the Kangaroos during their prelim stints in 2013, 14. GWS NEAFL head coach, forward line and now assistant at GWS. That's some pretty elite experience. Surely you'd look at getting him in to replace Chaplain end of year to work with the forward line. If he can help us improve, see some success, then he'll add more strings to his bow and will move on to a head coach role somewhere else. Big win. He'd also be a potential caretaker in waiting in late-2021 (worst case scenario) with a chance to make a mark as a head coach, given he might not have the actual forward line pieces to make a radical difference next year, seeing that we've not yet replaced Hogan. Thoughts?

The difference between us and the Pies though is their first round pick drafting of gun midrange forwards and the piecing together of a defense out of cheap trades and a f/s. We've done the opposite with Def/fwd and now have a rag tag forward line and gun defense at least on paper. And while we all wait for cohesion and experience to form, there is a ceiling, if you do lack these explosive natural forwards. Hoping Kosi can impact like Stephenson did. But yeah, would've been nice to get Jamie Elliot last year at least. Although what we really lack is De Goey if we're going down this midrange forward path. Bennell reaching his peak is exactly what we need. No pressure ha

We can just refer to him as Neale's nephew if that makes it easier for ya

TMac would be dominated by Collingwood in a prelim this year if he's sole focus. But then we'll recruit a Tom Lynch equivalent (Daniher?) to take off pressure so he can flourish as no2.. Short term pain, long term gain. 2021 premiership?
-
Jeff Kennett relegated us to the VFL, so now we're getting matches into our full list in preparation for our promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and beyond?

No use gryan over spilt Melk !

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
John Demonic replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
I suppose there would have to be players that had played for both WCE and Freo or Port and SA and then gone to Victoria and then played at Subiaco or Footy Park ? Prob new stadiums rule out current players -
Or he was out of contract, we'd allocated enough money to our defensive unit already, and our offer to him wasn't satisfactory. Frost wouldve absolutely been given an offer and re-signed, if we'd drafted Ben King I'm guessing. Assuming he didn't just want to go to a more professional club anyway.
