GAME DAY at Alice Springs - Round 9
KingDingAling replied to Henrietta Lumbago's topic in Melbourne Demons
These umpires have ruined the game for both sides. -

So disappointing when we get a start and then throw it away. -

Toumpas doesn't waste it. Well done. -
Eddie McGuire: Paul Roos "obvious choice" to fix Carlton
KingDingAling replied to SaberFang's topic in Melbourne Demons
Paul Roos would be a good fit for any club in the league. Eddie isn't silly, he is just using the bail out excuse to get ahead of the discussion. If Eddie can drum up some outrage about a bail out before it happens - then it's unlikely Carlton will see any AFL money. That would be a win for Eddie (Collingwood). -
Goodsy is in terrific condition. Credit to him, he must still work very hard. Looks like he could play on another few years.

I still think Josh Kelly and Lachie Whitfield should be our targets. I understand they are both still in contract, but so was Boyd. GWS will be under pressure to fit all these players in, they will need to let some go. The bidding war for Shiel will ensure some promising players will be squeezed out.

Agree. Hogan had exposed form in the VFL (best league below the AFL). Tom Boyd had only reasonable form in the NEAFL - a sub par, second tier football league. I don't know what the Bulldogs were thinking. So far, Boyd has performed to my expectations of him. On performance, he isn't the player that he is hyped to be. Hogan on the other hand was marking everything that came to him in Casey, and won the B&F as a kid.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
KingDingAling replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree with most of that. I would hold off on a Toumpas trade though, we wouldn't get a lot for him. Unless we were offered a first rounder, I just don't see the value in trading Toumpas. Actually the same can nearly be said of Jack Watts. I think Watts is becoming underrated around here. He simply isn't that bad of a player IMO. Can he lift? Yes, and he needs to, but I wouldn't be off loading him for the sake of it. -
The Jake Lovett Thread
KingDingAling replied to Trengove the Magnifique 9's topic in Melbourne Demons
Last pick maybe.. Not sure, interesting question. He was touted an early second rounder before this year. Even if Lovett doesn't play much this year, I hope we take him. His old man played at the elite level, and coached at a reasonably high level. Jake would be well versed in what it takes to play football at an elite level. I would rather take a punt on this kid than an Irishman who hasn't even played the game. Yet we see teams every year punting on International players who never even grace the field. -
The Jake Lovett Thread
KingDingAling replied to Trengove the Magnifique 9's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, good point. Jake Kelly is having a good year, looks a good prospect. Stewart is no mug either, he'd be getting lauded over in any other side bar GWS. If we could get Lovett for a pie and coke, we'd be rapt. I like contested ball players as rookies, late picks. Vandenberg a prime example. A lot of the top rated players today - Rockliff, Parker, Sloane - all slid through because they were perceived to be too slow for AFL. -
The Jake Lovett Thread
KingDingAling replied to Trengove the Magnifique 9's topic in Melbourne Demons
He should be a demon regardless. Adds to the romance of the Demon uprising. Viney, Lovett, Stretch. Good for memberships for the older crowd. To have old names running around is good for the club. Lovett sounds like an ideal late pick - that could reap rewards. Inside ball winners are good picks anywhere in the draft - let alone later on. -
The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
KingDingAling replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would still take Brayshaw from here. It is only early days yet. -
Matthews was a good player and great coach, that's where it ended. He is a very poor commentator.
-
Brayshaw looked great today. Vandenberg is a big kid, exactly what we needed in the middle after last year. Bernie Vince ability to kick both sides of the body, and push forward - is invaluable. MFC looked promising today.

Same.
-
Spencer is monstering Cordy.
-
Vandenberg just plays football.

WE HAVE A GOOD NUCLEUS
KingDingAling replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have a good nucleus to build around. It is a good start. Brayshaw, Petracca, Hogan, Viney, McDonald, Salem. Can build a side around those guys. It will just take some time. We need to be patient, continue to build upon our core, and continue to improve. Realistically, I'd be looking at finals in 2018. -
It is never a bad thing for kids to get a rest in modern footy. They do so much work. I don't think Stretch will lose out too much if he doesn't go around this week - and next week. He can still put in that work on the track. Could do with the freshen up. Not the worst thing to happen IMO.

Play Jeremy Howe as a forward
KingDingAling replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
That won't increase his trade value. Hopefully Howe has a good back half of the year. -
MFC should chase Patrick Cripps. Go hard at this kid. He can play, positions himself well, often doesn't get it when he should.
-
Yeah, we are actually improving and Paul Roos is a very good coach. You wouldn't think so hanging around Demonland this week. Fans just need to start having some faith in Paul Roos.
-
We don't need a PP, we just need to pick the eyes out of the draft. In all likelihood there will be kids in the 2nd and 3rd round that end up being superstar players. MFC need to find these players.

Luke Parker.. DOMINANT junior at every level. Smashed the TAC cup. Captioned Metro. Displayed a great work rate, physicality, ability to win contested football, good skills. Ran 15 plus beep tests and displayed superior endurance. In the case of Parker, IMO sometimes we overlook players who do things consistently well. There is nothing flashy about Parker, he gets the job done, that is what he does. This was just a case of recruiters outsmarting themselves, I think the majority would look back and shake their head. The herd mentality amongst recruiters is also strong, they are only human after all.
