  1. This is NOT sport related at all, but it IS virus related in as far as being a distraction from the mundane, that will waste just one hour of your life. I'm only posting here because there seem to be fewer and fewer entering the General Discussion forum since bare knuckle political infighting was, understandably, frowned upon. I hope the Admins see fit to allow this (if not, please feel free to delete - or alternatively, move it to be a standalone post of its own ?). Anyway, to the reason for my post. A few friends and myself have thrown a band together for a live stream from Sydney's Zen Studios next Sunday (10th May) from 3-4pm. The band is called Los Tromeos & the Branch Covidians and we will be playing a bunch of rough and ready, raucous even, country and rockabilly type tunes. And to make it releavant, two of us are Demons tragics. Here's a link to the Facebook Event if you would like to signify your interest (assuming there is any)... https://www.facebook.com/events/298204567836735/

  2. A genuinely exciting night. Gysberts tore it up in the midfield as well. Sad to look back at that line-up, that had the potential to play such exciting football, just melt away.

  4. You're full of winners today Wadda. The Sunday Specialist I'm reliably told! Multiple nicknames never hurt anyone! Demons Rock indeed ... that's a good start to the day and Zac is 2 from 2. But watch for Moreira in the middle of the meeting ... races 6, 7 & 8.

  5. A good win but as it was a crappy game, I really wouldn’t rate it. There is a few more glorious victories over the Essenscum Fc. Imo we should go back to round 12 1993. Jakovich kicks 8 and we win by 5 goals. A young David Neitz showcased his future as well. Bombers were premiers in 1993 but we gave it to them and their supporters that day.

  6. The odds for all the races are tight to begin with Wadda ... better to wait around until the race you're betting on comes around. Especially the last few races where the odds will drift quite a bit ... and what I'm talking about is not necessarily relatable to racing anywhere else. It's just perculiar to HK racing. I bet there every Sunday and that's the trend. So it's best to wait and if your pick does tighten then that can be looked upon as a good thing as the market often tells the true story I had 'Demon Rocks' picked out as well but not because of any sort of omen bet but because it looks the winner. Currently $4 which might in fact be overs for this particular race. Horses for courses haha

  8. Laddies don't put up the races in Sha Tin until tomorrow Wadda ... and the odds aren't up until 12noon sometimes Go to Racenet.com and then click on Sunday then Sha Tin. Mig Energy is in Race 5 but it has drawn barrier 14. Former Australian galloper. But that race is a wide open affair with any number of chances ... exotics (?) I've done the form for Sha Tin and my best bet is R6 No.4 - Excel Delight (Moreira) ... currently $3.50 on one of the HK betting markets but bound to shorten.

  10. I went to Vic Park once as a 10 year old in 1992 and stood in the outer with my dad and uncle (both Melbourne) another uncle (Collingwood) and his friend (Melbourne) when another Jako (Jakovich) kicked 7 goals after being dragged early and we ran over the Pies in the last quarter. I was too young or stupid to care about the Pies supporters and was cheering the Demons home and singing the song on the walk back to Hoddle Street. Don't remember getting any dirty looks or worse, but my dad was keen to get out of there in a hurry. Shame to see grounds like that lost to history, one of the best hamburgers I've ever had was there too on the grill just inside the entry gate. Collingwood supporters have the reputation but the team who I have had the most issues with at the footy is Saints supporters.

  12. I went to this game with my brother, a strong Collingwood fan. We stood on the terrace in front of the Collingwood social club amidst all the magpie fans who had poured out of the social club, 4 sheets to the wind, every one. The only game I ever went to without a Melbourne scarf around my neck. I stood impassive and utterly unable to open my mouth as much as I desperately wanted to all through the second half. Never enjoyed a win more than that one. Jackson flopping on the ground and mimicking a a prostrate Billy Picken after one of his goals was absolute gold though the Collingwood social club folk weren't that keen on it.

  13. No.44 1986 Round 21 v Kangas at MCG 1986 was John Northeys first year. The team had promise but lacked ability to win at crucial times. The year was over for us but the Kangas were desperate to win as they were on the edge of the final five. A big win over us would see them into the Five. But this day Dees had other ideas. Lead magnificently by Robbie Flower and Peter Moore dominating, the Dees lifted to a great 85 point win. 17 goals to 6 after half time. It was a mix of the retiring veterans Zantuck, and Jarrott plus Flower and Moore, skill of Wilson and Connolly plus with the youth of Healy, Newport, and Lyon. David Williams kicked 9 goals. Amazing. He was a talent. I’d like to think that this game laid the foundation for the confidence starting in 1987 and Robbie decision to go around again. Melbourne 28.14.282 defeated Kangas 14.13.97

  14. I watched round 11 2011 - Max's And Jeremy Howe's first game along with a host of young talent: Scully, Trengove, Watts et al. A bitter sweet run and gun experience. Just so sad to know what was to follow after that terrific game

  16. I actually meant, its a bit annoying they put the fields up so late. I was looking to do the form yesterday. Yes i agree, Demons Rock is a good horse and it looks overs. Patrick Payne has a few good runners at Bendigo and sister Michelle also has taken a horse she trains there as well. There is also a Night of Thunder horse Coupe de Tonnerre in the 1st race there, looking for its first win in a maiden. 3/1

  20. Of course I'd like to win it and I think we're well placed to do so at the moment. Here we are in the first week of May and we've only lost one game and have had no new injuries for over a month now.

  21. The players get 28% of 'Budgeted' income (or thereabouts) ... not actual income. And the money is guaranteed. The only way for that to change is for the players to give some leeway or ... not pay them and let the whole thing play out in the courts. It's highly unlikely that the latter option would happen but some of the clubs may go to the wall unless they start getting some real income in. As it stands, the clubs are forking out at least a half a million dollars and up to a million dollars per month - ongoing. Coaching staff salaries & FD costs included. As well as Admin costs, CEO salary etc etc. And they are going broke in the process as the income has slowed to a trickle. Ongoing contracts are guaranteed as well. So we pay the players & coaches but the clubs go broke. It's any wonder that they want to play the games asap. But take away the guaranteed salaries and there's no such haste. A money decision disguised as a goodwill measure. But why wouldn't the AFL take out some sort of insurance or have an 'Act of God' clause. Why wouldn't they protect themselves? Looking ahead they will but that ship has sailed for now and now the AFL has had to take out a $600Million loan. Which will need to be paid back. And the next broadcast rights contract may not be as lucrative as previous broadcast rights. So considering the league and clubs are not-for-profit organisations, it seems a bit odd that extreme amounts of outgoing monies are 'Guaranteed'.

  23. Sure, but doesn't mean that you should just blindly go along with every hair-brained scheme that gets floated. In any case, last time I looked, the players were impacted by all this as much if not more than the rest of us. Hard to see how they're "immune" from what's going on.

  24. No.46 2001 Round 2 v Crows at Football Park The Dees had had a shocker in round 1 against the Tigers and were keen to respond. The Crows at Football Park was a tough assignment. The team had a great first half leading by 6 goals. Whilst the Crows were always likely to make a comeback, the lead had be reduced to a few points when Simon Goodwin kicked a goal to put the Crows in front. 30 seconds to play. The Dees got take ball forward to a stoppage. From the umps bounce, Schwarz knocked it 10 metres forward to Leoncelli who ran and kicked from 40 metres and it sailed through for a goal. We had managed to snatch victory after giving away the lead. A rare victory in South Australia for the Dees. Relief yes but celebrating also followed. Melbourne 12.11.83 defeated Adelaide 11.14.80

  26. Great year 1964. The closing match at the mud heap (Glenferrie Oval) probably was the first time I heard a crowd chanting Melbourne Melbourne etc. Exciting win. MCC were great in letting us in early to put banners up and we made the old girl "Greysmith Stand" look good. After making the Granny we were at the Prelim and at three quarter time we went and queued up outside "T-Section" and stayed there all week to get the seats behind the goal. Parents kept coming in with food etc and snuck home during the day for showers. Black & white filth were more than us and we got pushed to the side but still a formidable support for the Dees. The rest was history and after the match, having been there all week, wasn't sure what to do but the Club turned on food and drink outside the change rooms and never got home until Sunday. Sure we were young then and not quite sure how I would handle a flag these days. I'd give it bash though. I have, like most, been really patient waiting for the next.
