  1. I thought that after the Mills incident but his piece in the Player's Voice and what I've heard from people who know him he's not. I think he's just a bloke who make a bad mistake and I think he's truly remorseful. Good luck Tom, hope the business goes gangbusters. Thanks for your efforts at MFC and helping us when we were rubbish.

  3. I'm thankful he chose to come to us when we were still a pretty average club. He was a key player and bringing a bit of arrogance and confident to the place. I loved him silencing the Richmond crowd that time after kicking a goal! He was a good 22nd player. Obviously no superstar, but could competently play a role tagging, up forward or down back. He's better than most on here give him credit for. He's a really friendly guy too. I've bumped into him multiple times at the supermarket and he's always up for a chat. All the best to him with his media marketing business. It's already a multimillion dollar business he's established with his model girlfriend and some of her friends. Done quite well for himself has Buggy!

  4. Thankyou LT , BB et al ( well...not all ) I quite liked the menace and tenacity he brought. Much maligned. Not our best player....few are... logically. Best of luck Tomas.

  5. Contrary to popular sentiment, I'll put my hand up here and say I don't give a [censored] about Dean Kent's career from hereon in.

  6. Big wave surfers have to hold their breath for a long time if they come unstuck and get pummeled by more than 30,000 tonnes of water. I'm guessing this is the gist of what Visser and the coaches are trying to impart on the players - when you're not in control, you need to remain calm and keep focused by facing whatever fear it is your facing so you can recover from it and ultimately survive (win). I've just finished reading What doesn't kill us from the author Scott Carney which is essentially a book about Wim Hof and how Carney wanted to prove Hof was a fraud and just another false prophet. Through his investigation of Hof, Carney traveled the globe meeting fitness guru's and researching many other alternative training methods that athletes utilise to try and eek out that extra tenth of a second that might mean the difference between winning and coming third in a 100 metre sprint for example. Part of that investigation took him to big wave surfer Laird Hamilton's training pool in California. Some of the techniques he is researching and applying are insane but having real impact on individual performance. I won't spoil any of the book because I really recommend the read for not only its information but because it's actually a bloody enjoyable book to read. I'm halfway through it on the second read now. Anyway, here's a link to Hamilton's website Laird Hamilton which may help explain a bit more about what the club may be doing along with Visser to look for that little advantage when you're in need of it.. I just hope I haven't gone off on a tangent here.

  9. Funny thing. I caught up with a co-worker today and he was talking about the street party they threw in his neighbourhood. He met a young couple who recently moved in, the Kents. Dean chatted a bit about his footy, that his shoulder is almost as good as new after that injury. He also said exactly what you have, that it was a three year deal vs one year and with a baby to think of he went for security.

  15. This is about the welfare of horses rjay And this latest stuff is huge ... so big that it should be the catalyst for change Many in the industry are now calling for real change and much more governance. Oddly enough, racing is much tougher than most sporting organisations (including the AFL) but as tough as it is it needs to be much much tougher.

  16. Yep... ...not sure it will ever be cleaned up 'Macca'. Is the will there to do it? Seems they just skim the surface every now and then, make an example of someone then everything goes back to the status quo. Unfortunately gambling/money lends itself to let's just call them dubious activities and that's not restricted to racing. A lot of cleaning to be done.

  17. I believe Melbourne offered Dean a one year contract (maybe two?), St Kilda offered three and on more money. Given his history of injuries, surely you can’t have Ill feelings towards him for taking St-Kildas offer, I doubt anyone at our club does.

  19. Some very ordinary comments on this thread. I liked him and thought he had much to offer. He conducted himself extremely well after the incident. But he is only retiring from footy, which is not very important in the scheme of things. He will do well in life.

  20. Maybe we better help out and open A Day at the Races Equine Racing Bloodstock Macca ! DZ is in top form with his 5 winners in 6 weeks and can be stable Foreman. You and i can take charge of the acquisition of new bloodstock and im extending the garage as we speak....plenty of room here.

  21. It's the owner's calls I suppose. Probably an immediate backlash from the scratchings tomorrow as their horses are now out of sync with their program's. It's a ruthless world we live in. The owners may be pre-empting the possible/probable penalties that may or may not be handed down on Monday. The logistics of movement with regards to the 700+ horses is going to be quite enormous ... I'm thinking there might be 30+ trainers involved with the relocation of all the horses. There has been talk of placing trainers into the Ballarat & Warrnambool stables so that a number of the horses don't have to be moved. Of course, no penalties have been handed down yet but it's not looking good Wadda

  22. Ok now im completely confused....like what the? So the owners have taken their horses elsewhere? Permanently or pending hearings? So much for being innocent until proven guilty. Can Nature Strip now go back in tomorrow? Are they allowed to run in blinkers?? God what a mess I need a drink.

  30. As you probably know by now all the Weir horses have been scratched Wadda. It's just an unholy mess and I can't help but feel sad for all involved. So much to sort out with so many repercussions & ramifications. Especially up your neck of the woods.

  31. A rare opportunity to add to Ernest's always great writings but perhaps opportunity would be a more appropriate word in this case. It is an amazing progression that our club has made over so very few years: from abysmal player development to best practice. Well done to all involved.

  33. Well do we know if Weirs horses are even going to be allowed to run tomorrow? Sort of begs the question if they had known about some alleged wrong doings for sometime, why not make their inquiries after the Spring Carnival? I was going to make my best bet a quinella Written By and Nature Strip, but i dont think Ladbrokes and possible other on-line agencies allow it in a multi? I know the TAB does. Best Bet: Caulfield Race 4 No1 Lamborghini $4.60

  39. BT was a thug; however, his style rapidly changed when he met Rod Grinter at the 'G, one lovely afternoon. He sprinted 40 metres to where Grints was taking his kick (from memory, a mark that dislodged a Filth forward). BT grabbed Grints from behind in a headlock - twisting and turning to inflict damage. Grints, cool as a cucumber, merely bent over sending BT flying over the top and into the turf, and BT was too scared to stand up to face our best-ever field assassin who was ready for some retribution. Grints was all muscle, power and righteousness and did what he did for the benefit of the MFC and his teammates. He actually had some marvellous footballing skills, as well - still the best 60m hit 'em on the chest 'pass-er' I have ever seen.

  40. Maybe I'm cynical, but that's why I assumed we announced our intention to get out of the gaming business. But I would have thought that's not in itself going to be enough and we should find some other genuine community benefit.
