My mate is a crows supporter and his dogs name is Dangerfield, it farted today and I swear the fart sounded like it said 'Demons' That's good enough for me and about the best sign yet. No one has a clue, anyone who suggests otherwise are just feeding their ego. Edit: last sentence.14 points

It seems that it's always that way but then something happens and suddenly there are 10 blokes on the rehab list in early February, all of them said to be about four weeks away and in no time it's the end of April and the same blokes are 1 to 2 weeks away ...11 points

it took a moment to realise, but now I know why the Geelong article really bugged me. Talking about how Mitch would be a great fit at Geelong, providing forward support for Hawkins. Same thing said about why Collingwood are so interested in him. But in all that. There is no club, no club at all, in more need of a key forward than the Melbourne Demons. It is why we paid so much to secure him, it is why he was so important. Mitch Clark was Melbourne's most important player, structurally even more vital than our captain. Now we're talking about him walking off in a straight swap for an inconsistent half-back flanker or a mid/late second round pick. Stinks.9 points

Had the very good fortune to meet Daisy today. She and the rest of her team are on an end of season trip to Hobart after winning the flag and were drink at the same pub I got to on Friday (the Tele for locals). Good looking girl as well as being great to talk to - a credit to the club each year in the women's game. Hopefully Daisy is in the red and blue for a few more years yet.8 points

There is no way known Brisbane will let Hanley go. While it sounds like Ed has dealt well with Beams on a personal level, Collingwood need to get their head out of their collective arse when it comes to the business transaction. They are not the ones holding the aces.8 points

In regards to the 2 posts above. I played golf today with a 'local' newspaper guy today. He told me verbatim that many of 'us' troll websites etc for rumours and go with the ones that seem to have the most 'credibilty'. Maybe we here at D'land and others at B'footy etc are starting this crap and then just feeding it back to ourselves??????7 points

Jon Ralph wrote that article. The same Jon Ralph who said Goodwin was 100% going to be Adelaide's next coach at the exact time that we announced he would be ours. He forms his opinion on what could happen and then prints it. It got as much weight as me saying that Dangerfield is a demon. Zero.7 points

For once I am rather ambivalent about this one. I have until this year had a great respect for the Swans, but the blatant misuse of the spirit of the COLA in buying Tippett then Franklin has me saying enough is enough. However ... the Hawks?? If they do beat the Swans, I hope Roughead has a big day out and Franklin an absolute stinker.5 points

Jones isn't going anywhere. He already has 3 b&f's under his belt and he bleeds red and blue. NJ is in the rare position where he can really niche out a lasting legacy at Melbourne. Plus I think Jones would be buoyed by Dom Tyson coming in and having a great year. Jonesy has already done the hard yards, makes no sense to jump ship now.5 points

Well then Im kidding myself. Frawley only managed 8th at the Bluey. Clark cant make it past a white line ( very often-historically ) One is actually totally irrelevant to our playing ability and the other's work rate is lacklustre at best ( more often than not ) and thinks grass is green elsewhere. So who really cares The problem would be for mine if we did , as a club , actually think these guys WERE important to our future. Theyre not. Hogan is, Viney is , Tyson is, Bernie is, Chunk- very much so, Dunn has stepped up and wants to be a big part of it, A person like Daniel Cross is infinitely more important than either of Chip or Mitch for us going forward and thats even acknowledging he has probably on 2 years in him left. Jetta and T Mac are more important as they actually WANT to play 110% and do it for the Dees. Frawley and Clark remind me of the so called value a celebrity has...its all show, more often a facade hiding a vacuum The sooner we do actually stop thinking the likes of Frawley and Clark are pivotal to any success the sooner we will actually achieve some.5 points

Cant' help it, it has all been said before but when I read all the posts about this guy, well, it just destroys my faith in human nature. Going back a little, he did very well with Brisbane. For 'family reasons' was heading back to the west, the MFC offers him big bucks, he jumps at it, OK gets a soft tissue injury, takes time to sort out, comes down with depression, recovers, is getting offered more big bucks to play with a more successful club and will no doubt take an offer. How many people have we all known, friends, family that have not had their battles to fight, mental, physical etc? He is an unworthy person, no more no less, it just sickens me. Apologies for the rant, whatever5 points

It doesn't mean it is signed sealed delivered but to my thinking - in contract talks is in direct contrast to "I'm putting off contract talks to the end of the contract so I can just concentrate on my footy". (decoded that means " I'm off outta here to the highest bidder")4 points

Shiel and pick 3 by a mile. 6-8 years of A+ grade footy from Dangerfield vs 10-12 years of A grade footy (potential for A+) from Shiel and 10-12 years of footy from pick 3.4 points

With respect to Mitch, we don't need fragile players taking us forward. Apart from a few good games, what has he really contributed to the club? Get the best possible deal for him and move on - he really doesn't deserve much more thought to be honest. If he is making the decision to leave us now considering where the club is currently at, how little he has contributed, and how much we have spent on him, it says a lot about the guy.4 points

I think there are different ways of telling him that we can't meet what he wants. The fact is that, while a top club may choose to pay him a bigger salary on their main list just in case he comes good, we're not in a position where we can afford to use up a spot on our main list for such a risk (and the term "risk" can be interpreted in any number of ways). Therefore, a reasonable response is "fair enough, I'll see if there's any interest elsewhere." It's more or less telling him that, with the club in its present state, this is the best we can offer to someone in your situation. That's not quite the same as "we don't want you", although admittedly it amounts to the same in the end. And this is without getting caught up in the issues of whether or not MFC have been deceived. Because Roos' one goal is to salvage the lousy situation in the best way possible by somehow getting a generous trade. And of course, with Roos, it seems that what goes unsaid tends to be just as pertinent as what is said.4 points

I am a 44 year old Melbourne fan. I have 1 brother. He is a 55 year old Hawthorn fan. We grew up in Camberwell deep in Hawthorn territory. I went to the 1988 Grand Final with my brother. Anyone but bloody Hawthorn. I am hoping the Hawks are 5 points up deep in the last quarter. Buddy takes a mark 70 metres out. The siren goes. Buddy runs out wide on his natural arc. The umpire fails to call play on. Buddy dobs it. I do love my brother!3 points

Fair call. Let's breathe some life into this thread then. As some of you may remember, I coach a bit of footy. And more and more I focus on coaching girls (school, underage rep and club) and have coached senior women as well but couldn't continue to commit the necessary hours with a young family. At a period in time when it's not always easy owning up to being a Melbourne fan, I've been incredibly proud of what our club has done for women's football. Our sponsorship of the Victorian League and our support of the exhibition game concept has been huge. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the first exhibition game, mainly because I knew how many quality players weren't playing but this year's game was a ripper. The standard rose significantly. I was pretty excited on a personal level to see a certain young lady in red and blue steal the show because I've been fortunate to coach her in a couple of different teams over the past three years. The female game is expanding rapidly with participation levels through the roof. The 2020 vision is something I thought was a bit of a pipe dream a few years ago but now I'm hopeful we may well have a national competition in the very near future. But I'm am wary when every time the women's game is mentioned on any footy forum the responses still contain some real low brow garbage. I just hope Melbourne members understand how passionate the girls involved in our Indigenous game are and how focused they are on improvement. Like me, you should be proud of what our club is doing and I hope you continue to support our involvement. When I coach, I always tell my teams that the most respectful thing I can do is to treat them no differently to a male team. Please do likewise when you discuss the concept and the future of the female game and do so with an understanding and hopefully an appreciation of the professional and dedicated commitment of the participants.3 points

Bizzell was a very good player for us and a cornerstone of our strong(er) sides of the mid 00s. Clearly Geelong were better off in the long term, but it was never intended to be a long term decision. I'm pretty comfortable with it.3 points

Anyone who thinks MC and Frawley aren't in the top 5 most impost players at our club is kidding themselves. We lose both after a season where we finished 17th. This is bad. Those guys impact games and kids don't for a few years. Roos will have to have a blinder to improve our list with trades compared to the loss of those guys. It hurts so bad that Mitch doesn't want to come back. Him back and firing is exactly what we need. I feel like the universe conspires to create just one or two crappy events each year to keep us down. This appears to be one of those.3 points

The only issue I have is with the compensation because I don't think it's particularly correct or even relevant to the issue of his conduct and that of his management. The Scully camp was blameless in chasing the big money offered by the AFL for him to join GWS but it was its role in the subterfuge and the lies involved that left a bad taste in the mouth, especially since it was done with the collusion of the AFL which was setting up GWS and gave no help to a constituent club to counter what amounted to its own approach to a 19 year old player asset of the club. The compensation was never like for like. We never received appropriate compensation for a number 1 draft pick with two seasons invested in him. We ultimately received room in our salary cap to get Mitch Clark and then the ability to secure Chris Dawes, Dom Barry and Jesse Hogan but really, it's three years down the track and what have we really gained for our troubles given what's happened with Clark and Hogan, the limited productivity from Dawes and a handful of games from Barry? The bright side of the equation is that the AFL reckons we're going swimmingly, that our kids are fantastic and that the sky above us is all blue. When I heard that, I immediately went out and reserved my tickets for the 2015 grand final but in the meantime, I'll continue to feast on every mishap and every blimp in little Lord Voldemort's career and may there be many.3 points

"You want to trade what for Beams? Get stuffed! He's a superstar! We'll take... Dangerfield! Hey Adelaide! Take this crap for Dangerfield! What? Of course it's enough! You're dreaming, he's not that good. You should be happy you get anything for him really. In fact, we're doing Dangerfield, Beams, you and the AFL all a favour. You should be thanking us and throwing in a 1st round pick. Some people..."3 points

Essendon players facing doping charges expected to head to AFL Tribunal to beat notices When the show cause notices were issued back in June, I believed that the players should have grabbed the six month sanctions then on offer. The case would have been done and dusted and there would have been certainty in the lives of the players and clarity in the direction their club could take going forward. I believe that there still will be deals once the players are shown the evidence but, after what's happened in recent months I can see that if the truth is to ever come out, the best chance would be for the cases to go before a Tribunal. Apart from the personal issues involving the athletes and their careers, there is also the reputation of Australian sport on the world stage and the fate of the regime of effectively dealing with doping around the world at stake.3 points

So I just got the following emailed to me from a mate.... who's mate attended a breakfast at the MCC with C Wilson, D Barrett, J Ralph & S Edmund. Anyways, dont take it as gospel, could be rubbish, most likely is complete rubbish but I thought i'd toss it out here in case some people find it interesting. Dont know if he expects me to post it anywhere but that much crap gets spruiked anyways I doubt people care. Melbourne been assured of getting pick 3 for Frawley – Apparently he still hasn’t told the club whether he’ll stay and Peter Jackson’s only concern is that he might. The request for a priority pick was all part of the plan to get the best compo for Frawley – PJ a genius. All AFL clubs attended a meeting at the Westpac Centre to discuss trade week a few days ago and Melbourne hang pick 3 was widely accepted by all Dees, Saints and GWS up to their eyeballs in discussions on possible draft pick re-shuffling/trades Saints love McCartin and know the Dees and Giants want mids (Giants have no interest in McCartin, b0ners for Petracca) Saints happy to offload pick 1 to GWS so they can secure Petracca, for pick 4 and a player – If the Dees agree to lay off McCartin with picks 2 & 3, he’ll still be there at 4. Trouble for the Saints is the Dees are looking to take Brayshaw with 2 or 3 and off load the other pick to a club desperate for a tall – Saints might need to make it worth the Dees while… Potential 3 way trade: Saints – Get Pick 4 (MCCartin) and a player (potentially Jaksch) for pick 1 Giants – Get Pick 1 (Petracca) - Shiel and a latter pick to the Dees for pick 3 Dees – Pick 2 (Brayshaw), Shiel and a late 1st round/early 2nd round pick or Frost Hird no chance to coach ever again McKenna gone – Abblett knifing him behind closed doors, supporting him publicly Ryder to Port if the Brisbane deal hasn’t already been done Swans cashed up again with Malceski, Mitchell, O’Keefe and Goodes all expected to leave and will pull out as surprise big signing Hawks will get Frawley – As soon as the GF is over the make him a massive offer Trouble at the Dogs, players unhappy with the coach, senior players think the young blokes are getting ahead of themselves – A few ripe to be picked off Haven’t invested nearly enough in development and players are already raising concerns Any backwards slide would see a massive player exodus and the club become an almost irreparable mess – Cameron gone! Giants in MASSIVE trouble, AFL sh1tting themselves – Are expected to go backwards next year, potential spoon.3 points
