The terrible legacy of club destroyer Prendergast lives on. Overlooking Daniel Talia at pick 13 for Gysberts, despite most on Demonland hoping Talia would be there at 13, now winning Crows B & F on top of AA selection and AA squad selection this year. This guy nearly destroyed the club on his own.14 points

In fact, my sexuality has been on the end of some very inappropriate jokes in the workplace, and I have used inappropriate comments about heterosexuality. It's all part of the fun at laughing at and with myself and others. No one is getting hurt. No one is fearful, nor are they angry. I work with a Muslim lady, who has very strong homophobic views. We don't talk about them but we know they are there. We get along really well and through just being me, she is learning a lot about the gay community. She now realises that gay men are normal and harmless. On the flip side, I don't flaunt any overt gay behaviour or discussion her way. I respect her faith and culture to much to do that. If I went down the HL pathway of defending gay rights, I would just reinforce any fixed and uneducated views my Muslim colleague has or had. The best way to break down social stigmas is via engaging people. Not putting them off side.8 points

Perhaps you can read too much in to it but the end of Roosys speech when he said that if you don't want to be a part of it then you know where you can go, well , he said that with some gusto and if it wasn't directed at Frawley it certainly would've made him shift in his chair a bit. Cant help but think it was a fairly robust discussion at Chip's exit interview.7 points

I think as faithful demon supporters who've weathered the past 8 seasons and then some, we're entitled to hang on to whatever hope there is.6 points

Time to get off your Soap Box Dr! Not sure why HL seems to think that the gay community needs his assistance? Maybe he is pink suede himself. As a out and very proud gay man I'm offended by HL's behaviour. Lighten up FFS. Gone are the days that the Gay Community need to fight every battle to get acceptance in mainstream society. We have moved past that school boy banter and have moved onto more pressing issues such as rights for Civil Union, rights to parenthood etc etc. Me and my community use this kind of humour on a daily basis. Why? Coz it's funny.6 points

HL plays for a club with a long, dishonourable tradition of racism - Nicky Winmar, Damien Monkhorst, Adam Goodes, Alan McAllister and on. His reaction to the graffiti is hypersensitive, but we don't know his experience at the club, nor what he's had to negotiate in reclaiming his identity as the son of his father. I'd welcome him to MFC, and anyone who wants to microwave their membership over it is welcome to.5 points

1) it's not about Sydney it's about us 2) if some of us worked for MFC recruitment dept we'd have Talia, Darling & Wines on our list5 points

So are you saying it's OK to have a little racism in Australia because it's much worse overseas? That's like saying it's OK to have some bashings in Australia because overseas they've got wars. The idea that Australia is totally 'tolerant' is a myth. I seriously doubt problems between HL and Collingwood were just over a homophobic scribble on a poster. There would be an ongoing problem with personalities and their views, of the type that may or may not recur at any football club. It's up to Paul Roos to find out, and to see whether HL fits in with his plans. I'm happy to leave it to him.5 points

Demonstrative, if everyone did this there would be a hell of a lot less problems in the world.4 points

So what? What the Bulldogs decide to do should take nothing away from Cross. It's no different to what Chapman's done at the Bombers. Do you think Essendon fans will call patronise and refer to him as a "Geelong reject" when he finishes Top 5 in their B&F?4 points

So HL, who actually acts on some of the 'work to do', therefore becomes a 'high and mighty', 'blows it way out of proportion' and only acts from 'self-promotion'? Is there 'work to do' or not? If the sort of crap we see weekly on The Footy Show is any indication of the blokey culture in a footy club, then I'm with Heritier.4 points

Brilliantly put. Interestingly, I found an article involving him and Stephen Milne where he was called a homo. In the first paragraph he goes on to mention that he has used all those words before too. http://m.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/milne-slur-no-issue-for-obrien-20120810-23zu5.html I think he's enjoying the notoriety that comes with being this high and mighty AFL player and frankly I can't stand him.3 points

And there you have it.How can forum posters get it right over a highly paid expert, but that is basically what happened? I feel sick every time I see Talia or Darling play. Our problem is not 1-2 mistakes over the last 8 years or so it is 1-2 correct. I am not counting last year under the new recruiting team.3 points

yep. I had no truck with frawley until the last few games when he decided to go through the motions. We needed a leader to show something against gws. He is close to our physically strongest player and he could have decided to impose himself. He chose not to. Stan akves and Greg wells gave everything to the end for the dees and I didn't begrudge them moving in for glory. Big difference3 points

I just find the whole topic tedious. I tip my hat to anyone who still feels passionately about it. I'm convinced he's gone and couldn't give a stuff anymore. Just feels like groundhog day with this club.3 points

You would think that our ex-Collingwood personnel in Jason Taylor and Chris Dawes would have a comprehensive insider's view on HL, and if that's good enough for Roos and the club, good enough for me. So much speculation here, where in reality We Just Don't Know.3 points

In a team game, where one individual annoys people, is precious, creates attention and derives dirty satisfaction from drama, I do not care a hoot what their footy skills are like. They create a management headache from day dot. We have neither the skill, team strength or culture to tolerate him. Goodness, we cannot even tolerate the solid under-performers we have, much less a big stage drama like Heretier. No.3 points

Heretia Lumumba is a pathogen acquired by swimming in the Lamumba river, a tributary of the Zambesi. Those afflicted suffer from Grandiosity, Hypersensitivity and Proctalgia fugax. There is no cure. Quoted from the Chookopedia.3 points

Personally I would prefer we could pass on this, but the reality of where our list is at and the amount of non AFL standard players we have means we can't afford to pass on proven players, even ones who carry far to much baggage for my liking. It will all be in how much it will cost us, we need to get him for as little as possible, as he is only ever going to be a stop gap measure, while our young players get some decent development time.2 points

The only question we should be asking is "does he improve our on-field performance?" If the answer is yes then we should go after him. For those who think he has too many deficiencies, how does he match up to Grimes? Terlich? Matt Jones? If we could get him and Malceski as our half backs for next year I think it improves our side and shores up our defence. Then we can focus on the midfield.2 points

Putting to one side the various comments regarding HL's personality profile, it would seem that as a footballer, the 2 concerns are: 1. Is he past his prime? 2. Even in his prime, he was basically a '2 trick pony' I.e. Runs fast & kicks long If (and yes, it is a big if,) we were blessed by the Football Gods and could line up with Hogan, Dawes and Clark up front, then getting someone who can pump the ball forward quickly to guys in one-on-one contests might be of some appeal. The indirect and glacial-like forward progress we displayed this season would have frustrated the living suitcase out of any key forward. In any event, "in Roos we trust"2 points

You are dead right. It seems a lot of people that cry racism haven't left their own backyard. In my experience Australia is one of the most tolerant societies going around, sexism, racism , the lot. There's a lot of spilt milk here and a shite load of people standing around crying over it - mostly to draw attention to themselves. Look at me, look at me, I'm a new age liberal with feelings. Harden the F up and stop self promoting. I'm all about improving society and helping people in need but there are a lot more worthy causes. The gay community would get more support from me if they just dropped this "woe is me" bollocks No one gives a shite what you do with your [censored], just grow up.2 points

What has this world come to that you can no longer hang crap on your mates for looking like a couple of batties. Gee humanity needs to lighten up!! These guys are young blokes. A footy club locker room is a mans world. I wish these PC Utopians would get with reality. Let's keep sewing clubs feminine and sensitive but let's stop taking away environments where blokes can be blokes. I wouldn't know what to say to some of my mates if I couldn't call them a big Pooof when they were acting like a nancy. This hypersensitivity is so lame. Let boys be boys Btw the homosexuals get their Mardi gras, when do the polygamists of the world, themselves a minority group, start getting some recognition??2 points

Australia has a long history of bigotry and racism (sometimes) masquerading as "humour" and then blaming the victim for being a sook and not being able to take it. It's ok to say others should laugh it off but it's easy to say when you're not on the end of it. I'm sure people dont always take offence it depends on the context and nature of it but at the end of the day this stuff wouldn't be tolerated in any other modern workplace and if someone takes offence and has raised it as an issue then it is inappropriate to continue with that behaviour whether you think they are being a sook or not.2 points

Off topic slightly, but I've removed the word "gay" from the auto-censor. It came in with a rather heavy handed list we installed a while ago.2 points

You know that for a fact? First hand evidence? (And media reports are not fact.) All you post are broad sweeping statements h_h. So now you believe casual homophobia is ok? No wonder g ay AFL footballers do not come out. There might be many reasons for not wanting H on our list, but calling homophobia for what it is should not be one of them. You should have kept your word and not posted on land again.2 points

She makes some good points. The club have well and truly painted themselves into a corner....all by themselves though. They had choices. I really want Essendon to be smacked hard for the simple reason they are an affront to decency and what the game really means. And ultimately golden boy should face criminal charges ( let alone ASADA etc )2 points

"There are several ways the club could help Ryder and McDonald. One would be to tell them what drugs the player was given before he impregnated his fiancee. But Essendon cannot do that. The club has chosen the course of denial and delay and to this day does not know what exact substances were administered, even though chairman Paul Little continues to blindly insist his belief that nothing banned was involved." Pick 3 for T.Mitchell & Zac Jones? IN: Pick2 (Petracca), T.Mitchell, Z. Jones Out: Pick 3 They can then use Pick 3 on someone like Wright who I think Sydney are in need for a young ruckman who they could develop. We are also getting in Nathans younger brother to move back in Melbourne and provide Nathan a big reason to not walk out on the Dees next year come free agency as an insurance plan.2 points
