How about... We don't trade Hogan unless he actually comes to us and says he wants to go home to WA, and even then, only if we get offered a fair return in the trade? Shocking strategy, I know...8 points

On Monday, the time had finally come when my partner admitted to being a Dees supporter. After two and a half years spent half riding the emotional roller coaster alongside me, seeing my despair and manic moods, she finally agreed to jump on board with me. She uttered the words 'we won' after the Essendon game. This almost brought me to tears and made the win so much sweeter. Since then she has told me about a conversation she had at work with a 'fellow' Dees supporter. Next step is to get her a membership for her birthday. It's all the more sweeter because I've snatched her from the clutches of her evil Pies supporter Dad! Does anyone else have a successful conversion story they'd like to share?8 points

I mentioned this before but my daughter suggested that she wanted to stop barracking for Dees when she was 16 - too much heartbreak. I told her that this was ok but I would never go to the footy with her again and I would cancel her MCC membership. Tough love ( but necessary ) The aftermath - she is 24 and we happily attend the footy together every week.8 points

Anyone who watched this 17yo simply dominate last year at Casey would realise that Hogan is far more than just a talent. He is the first player I have seen on our list the oozes superstar since the Ox. Unfortunately 3 knee reconstructions curtailed the Ox, if it was not for this he would be spoken in the same breath as Carey, Judd, Mathews, Barrassi today. I am more than happy to pay what ever it takes to keep Hogan at the Dees. $500k per year would be a minimum I would think. Mark my words, if Hogan has a good run with injury's through his career he will end up being something between Carey and Lockett........ he is that good.8 points

Completely wrong, I have actually asked most of the players, they are 'advised' to stay away from the fan forums, three quarters of them don't even read the sports pages in the newspapers. Most of the players know the supporters opinion of their playing ability, they hear it over the fence, and they get judged all the time in the media They are not stupid, they know if they are playing badly they won't be flavour of the month with the supporters I explained to Jimmy Toumpas why I was asking questions and he answered and told me I was free to quote him, he knows as a top five pick he should be 'tearing it up', but strangely he listens to the coaching staff more than the supporters The only reason the trolls have stopped hitting the players Twitter accounts is because Nathan Jones has told them to retweet to their followers if they get garbage and let the followers bombard the troll, works a treat Jesse Hogan was signing stuff before the QB game and knows the majority of the supporters want what he wants, to get on the park, coz most of them told him that, I spoke to him afterwards and he had enjoyed the comments8 points

I have no direct contact with Jesse but regular contact with ex teammates, school friends and other people close to the family. Very strong word pre the changeover with CEO, footy department etc that his family were not happy and with us being viewed as a basket and uncertainty surrounding the club. The view was he would not re-sign a new contract till he saw how the club was going and if there was to be changes for the better. I have been told after last year games with Casey Freo had put the feelers out but Hogan was in now way responsive to their approaches. As a closing carrot dangler or food for thought Freo allegedly mentioned they would be prepared at that early stage to be guaranteeing a figure around the $400k per season mark. My mail is since Jackson, Roos the older players and all the other changes Jesse's parents are happy with the way the club is headed and how Jesse has been looked after. I've also heard unconfirmed his parents have moved from Perth, possibly down to the south west of the state, so what does that say about any go home factor. So my take on it is all the rumour an innuendo is just the local clubs (not heard anything about Meth Coast other than media) doing their due diligence with WA born players who's contracts are up for renewal. The fact he has not signed at this stage just fuels the media but truth be known the club and Jesse have concentrated on getting him right. I think we have turned everything in our favour where to the point everything I hear now is positive towards Melbourne and how much he is enjoying it there. By all accounts very close to Viney, Toumpas, Dawes and Mitch. I'm like the rest in that I don't know what he will do and think getting out on the track is his major focus8 points

Last year my young cousin had switched his allegiance from Melbourne to Hawthorn. Living abroad, I only ever see him every year or so, and I was unaware of this tragedy until I went to pick him up to take him to Auskick and saw him decked out in brown and yellow. I asked him what had happened to his Melbourne guernsey and why he wanted to walk around looking like he'd be dunked in a toilet. After thinking about it for a couple of minutes, he went to his bedroom, changed into his Demons' gear, and off we went to Auskick. He's been sending me updates on the Dees every week since, and proudly sports Jack Viney's #7 on his back.7 points

There is one I reckon who might and only might come close to Hogan, and he will go at 1. We won't have that pick. My opinion is that Hogan is the pick of the bunch of young forwards including Cameron and we need to keep him.6 points

Bloody hell what a stupid thing to say. I seriously can't fathom the mentality of some of our supporters sometimes, anyone who cares enough to post on here yet won't attend a home game because a player they don't necessarily like might be playing. Get there, be loud and support the club. We're trying to increase our crowds/support and people are as fickle as to say "I'm not going if he's playing", "I'm not going to Docklands", "I'm not going cause it's Sunday" - I just hope you're not one of those who then also complains when we have to sell games to NT.5 points

I must have blocked this game out of my mind, because I can't remember a thing about it. To lose by over a hundred points to North bloody Melbourne is embarrassing in the extreme. That I regard North as only slightly less repulsive than Hawthorn does nothing to lessen my desire to see them ground to a pulp by the irrepressible meat-slicer that is Paul Roos footy.5 points

In the beginning were the Demons. And the Demons were the light, and where there was no light there was darkness. And the name of the darkness was Collingwood. And strange things moved in the darkness, and their names were Geelong and Essendon, Footscray and Fitzroy. North Melbourne and South Melbourne moved they also, yea even Richmond and St Kilda. Carlton and Hawthorn lay beneath even the darkness. Time passed, and each sixth day was Saturday, and on the seventh day was World of Sport, and on the last Saturday of September time stopped. And on that day there was only the light.5 points

It's unbelievable and quite hilarious how concerned some people on here re Saty's joke to Jesse re 30 pages of nervousness on DL I couldn't imagine Jesse and his Manager at the table finalisig a new contract only to say "There is one matter we'd like to clear up. Apparently some deprived supporters on DL are nervous and have a 30 page thread on Jesse's bake injury. We feel that with the added expectations that come with such a thread that Jesse wishes to return home". FFS relax, we've got this.5 points

I sat through that game.....funnily enough, I only remember 2 things about the game....Tapscott's goal in the opening minutes and Swallow being carried off. I would like to thank CUB, its constituents and all their associates, the shareholders and the mighty bar staff at Telstra Dome for erasing my memory that afternoon.4 points

Yep, the fact that Geelong wouldn't have to 'pay' anything in terms of their current list or draft position makes it a huge gimme for them. In a standard trade, they'd be looking at having to give up their first rounder and a young player. As it is, well, fine, we pick up a first round pick, but they lose nothing. Just imagine if Carlton had been able to recruit Judd without giving anything up. They could have been top-4 the last three years with Kennedy and two extra first round picks in hand. System is broken. That said, good luck to Frawley whether he stays or goes. The Melbourne Football Club is now strong enough to cope with losing a quality player. No longer the drowning man pulling down everyone around him in desperation.4 points

Wow. I had somehow managed to erase this from the memory bank completely too. Must be a trauma response. It would be fair to say a second consecutive massive turn around is on the cards.4 points

Miss Deeko and I have only been together 11 months and she was a bombers supporter however has now officially converted. The two things that got her: 1. My ridiculous obsession and passion for the club. 2. Dom Tyson The second point worries me as that I am concerned Miss Deeko wants to become Miss Tyson.4 points

So, My Grandfather played footy for the MFC reserves between the wars and was in the team that won almost every year. Since then ALL of my family were given the choice to support Melbourne or never speak of football. A pretty easy choice to make in my mind. All of my cousins are supporters of the MFC and their kids are and more importantly the partners were converted or accepted the MFC. My GF is a MAD (i made it capital for a reason) Sydney swans supporter. I cannot really hold that against her as she lives in Sydney, Sponsors the club and the players know her etc. When we started seeing each other i told her i would convert her and she laughed. She told me there was no way she would ever. Her best friend is a Richmond supporter and when i took them all to the Rich v Melb game a few weeks back it was Dad, Mum, My GF, Her Bestie, Her besties Husband and then me. Obviously Her Besties Husband and myself were finding places to watch the game in the MCC that served refreshing Beveridge’s. We would occasionally come back to check up on the family. As the game was a ripper we decided to watch the last Qtr from the seats. As it was getting exciting i started to hear my GF yelling "Go Dees". This was a statement i thought i would never hear out of her mouth. Let alone as she sat next to her crazy mad Richmond supporting best friend. It’s not a membership and scarf just quite yet but its baby steps in the right direction.4 points

Yet none are as good as Hogan, or even Daniher. How about we keep Hogan and STILL have our first rounder?! Yep, genius idea.4 points

I think they'll remain unchanged, but it's clever from the FD to encourage the three inclusions on the extended bench. It should drive them to put in even harder for a place next week. Recognition is an important thing, even if it isn't the end goal. McKenzie experienced a similar thing a few weeks ago. Roos and co are looking for consistency at VFL level. They're managing things beautifully.3 points

I reckon a big part of why North has had the wood on us is that prior to the Neeld period (when we just rubbish) we were quite attacking but so were the Roos. Two similar styles but they have been better and their attacking style completely exposed our weak defense. Things are different now and i think we are a much better match up for them (and Geelong for that matter), style wise.3 points

1. No player in the history of AFL has told his club he will go to another before his last game. 2. Frawley is worth $850k to the Dockers who are entering a premiership window. We aint and hence he is worth less. I recall Lloyd putting an appropriate price on his head earlier in the year in FC. 3. This is his last contract and he would be a fool to turn his back on a few hundred grand a year for what? A good culture? Come on. Money plus late-September action = no-brainer. We will be well-compensated so what is the problem...let him decide....whatever will be will be. 4. This thread was not really about staying or going, but what can happen when you have the guts and brains to shuffle your side a little; and how one event can cascade into something.3 points

My girlfriend of 3 years has always been an Essendon supporter (not a die hard, but followed them) I convinced her because my passion lies so heavily in Melbourne that I would be so happy if she would consider coming across as a Melbourne Supporter, learn the players and competitive teams, watch 360 with me etc. She made an effort to learn all the Melbourne players names and number (At the gym, her locker number might be 12 she would say "Number 12.. Dom Tyson..Traded to Melbourne from GWS with Christian Salem in the draft" At the start of the year she couldn't believe she had put in all this effort and time to turn and support a club that I had promised her would turn it around this year. Following the match against the eagles we have turned into a serious outfit. When we went to the Richmond game she couldn't believe we won.. Hearing her yell out BALL! and GO TYSON!, OMG DAWES!! made me so happy..The match against Essendon where we were both biting our nails and on the edge of our seats we were so happy we came away with the win. It made me such a happy man3 points

Have to agree to disagree. I really dont want to hijack this thread. So anyway I just hope Hogan sees there is a future for him at our club and he will re sign soon.3 points

If you are not putting me down, it would be a first, you have no idea what I talk to the players about, or they tell me, mainly because you are not there with me, I actually publish some of the conversations I have because the interstate and overseas supporters like reading them, not to big note myself or start rumours, it gives them a sort of proxy one on one with the players that they can't have, and those lucky enough to live in Melbourne and get to training can I have also over time not published other conversations, because I have been told not to or decided not to myself As far as Jesse Hogan goes, to go back on topic, I had a chat to him before the QB game and he was very upbeat, and when I saw him do the forty minutes of running the other day at training.when he finished I went over to check how he was, jokingly making a reference to the nervousness on Demonland, which he appreciated, he was quite happy to tell me how he felt and it wasn't in the usual cliches, it was in 18-19yr old speak which I paraphrased Any time you want me to ask a question of the players feel free and I will get you an answer, apart from Frawley, everybody is getting a straight bat from him, I tweeted him a picture of a pen and asked him to use it, hopefully he will3 points

In about 1987/8, I was taken to the football by a Dees supporting friend from primary school. We had a ripper day. The son of Geelong-mad mother and Hawthorn father, I picked the Dees. On the balance of the last few years, it's felt like a pretty cruel twist of fate!! Still, bloody love my crappy club.3 points

Hickey's original article (quoted earlier) and the one published in bigfooty set out the issues very clearly. She argues that Essendon and Hird might not be able to demonstrate their "standing" or right to appear (neither have yet been served with show cause notices) and need to demonstrate a special interest in the case. I think the circumstances clearly are such that they can strongly show that this special interest applies to both. Middleton J would have to interpret special interest very narrowly to bar them on the basis of standing. However, he could be doing them both a favour and saving them a lot of money and grief to all concerned (and especially the players) if he knocked this claim on the head as soon as possible because the rest of their case has little or no merit. Not so long ago, those sympathetic to Essendon and the players were arguing that the whole saga was running far too long, was draining the players and tarnishing the image of the game at its elite level. Now they want this? Come on. EFC and Hird should be careful about what they wish here. The supposed agreement (and whatever it is, it's been vaguely defined) by the AFL to give absolution to the players who co-operate would also get knocked on the head and they might get part of the so called joint investigation declared ultra vires leaving the investigation and show causes to proceed. The club, Hird and the players could possibly be in a far worse position if that outcome is achieved. Middleton J has apparently opened up the directions hearing on 27 June for television. Directions hearings are normally as boring as hell (about as riveting as Young and the Restless) but in this case, some interesting material could come out. And if future hearings into the matter are also televised, the public might get to see and hear things that EFC and Hird don't want anyone to know about. Smart move by the judge - there is so much misinformation being put out there by the pro Essendon camp who are pushing the line that the Bombers "done nothin' wrong". Read Rohan Connolly's piece in the Age, watch Robinson on AFL360 or follow their fans on twitter who try to portray ASADA as the reincarnation of Atilla the Hun while all at the EFC are innocent bystander victims and you'll see why it's a good thing for proceedings like this one to be played out fully in the public eye.3 points

Is he? The ones I see that are full of excuses, are the ones trying to explain their justification for their certainty that he is leaving, when they're really just feebly trying to protect their own feelings in the event he does leave. I'd love to know what these imaginary unnamed indicators are that posters keep talking about...3 points

Chip is a gun, and there would be 17 other list managers other than ours that would like him on their list. Chip has been a shining light down back for years, and all of a sudden he is a surplus defender? We must have short memories. If Chip leaves because he wants to then whatever pick we get is what we get. Chip is the real deal, the 18 year old selected with a compo pick is not guaranteed to make it at the top level. Better the ghosts you know than the ones you don't know.3 points

Why, they do know they have supporters, and they do know there are fan forums, and they know I post on here, so they use me to answer questions for the supporters out there, Jesse knows every supporter wants him on the field and he actually appreciates the support3 points

Jesse did about 40 minutes running, none flat out, this morning at training, watched closely by 3 members of the fitness/medical staff. I asked him at the end paraphrasing "it's sweet mate", "no probs, just taking it slowly" "did a bit" Told him there were 30 pages of nervousness on Demonland "tell them not to worry" He also was smiling and giving thumbs up to any MFC staff who asked him how he was going.3 points

Finally got around to rewatching the game in its entirety, and I could not believe how many goals Jordie McKenzie was involved in. It was like..."There's McKenzie...there's McKenzie...McKenzie again...and again...should've been a free to Frawley there, but it's okay cause there's McKenzie." Destroyed Stanton and provided the quick handball out of the pack that won us about five or 6 massive second half goals. Easily his best game of all time. Also, I vastly underrated James Frawley's game. He was a colossus all match. Should have kicked another goal from dead in front, and sometimes his chasing wasn't very good (but honestly I don't think he could have affected many of those situations anyway); but other than that he was spectacular. Part of me wants to grab the pick so we can on-trade it for a ready-to-go mid, but another part of me just wants Chip to sign so he can become the world's greatest swingman for our club and not for Hawthorn or some other random team I hate. PS that marking contest where Crossy opened himself up and drifted in front of the oncoming Paul Chapman is just about the bravest thing I've ever seen a person do on a footy field. He is very very lucky not to be in hospital right now with half his ribcage lodged in his guts.3 points

He said one of the funniest lines I have heard in this saga. After banging on about Essendon and how they have been victimized for what seemed an eternity, he said a number of times to Gerard " now don't take sides Gerard ". Hysterical.
