  2. Melbourne fans need to harden up about Etihad. It's oval shaped, has grass on it and is located in the CBD.

  3. Did you actually watch the game today. I thought Dunn was about our best. He played on Thomas, who kicked 7 last week and was thrashed by Dunn today. Gee give him some credit for a good game. You want to talk about gutless, hello Flash. If it was me he would have played his last game for us today.

  5. wow Some people comparing Hurley to Neitz ??? Embarrassing stuff Neitz was a champion, inspirational leader and a matchwinner who has many accolades including All Australians, B and F, Coleman, etc.... Hurley has achieved nothing and he doesn't have much improvement left judging from what I have seen. SO disrespectful to Neitz

  6. I appreciate stats, especially in this easy-to-read format.

  7. Watching Hurley strike a purple patch during the final quarter last night (yes, I know the game was all but over), you couldn't help but notice his aggression at the ball and his determination and strength when in attack. He could easily have finished with 5. If Watts can adopt that approach to his game, he would race ahead in the comparison stakes.

  8. Why not? Hurley was ready made and produced early and was touted as 'THE NEXT BIG THING' in the Hereld Sun. He is not much better now than the day he was drafted. Watts has improved big time, and while he still has me shaking my head sometimes, he looks like he might actually make improvement into the player we thought he might be. At the moment Ollie Wines is making most of wish we drafted him. Maybe we should be patient with Toumpas and not bag the [censored] out of him at every chance?

  9. Words cannot describe how much I want Jack Watts to re-sign a beefy 4 year contract with the Melbourne Football Club. Has anyone heard the latest with the contract negotiations? Stuff incentive based contracts, lets offer Jack the farm. The bloke was treated like utter Cow manure under Neeld (eg- rd 3 dropping v west coast but not playing him at Casey) I'm loving his last 5 weeks under Craig. Whether it be kicking 4 goals v Dogs or showing his class up the field v brisbane and even having a good crack in the ruck. Watts is a class player, I think he loves the jumper, and he will be a top 30 afl player in 2 years time. Jack, make all of your beloved supporters day/month/year and sign the dotted line.

  11. We should be proactive and just start one now.

  12. If we get inside 8 goals of North today I will be amazed. We are coming off two energy sapping slow tracks in the rain of Geelong and the heat of Darwin to play probably our biggest bogey side at our biggest bogey ground which happens to be the fastest track in the land. Everything says massacre to me but I will be there as thats what you do.

  14. I think people should back off the kid. He is the least of our worries and will he a little inconsistent for hos first couple years. Its expected. Have a look at the so called father son prodigy in Daniher tonight. Didn't get near it or even get near a contest. Be patient, I know its hard with what we have been through but he will get there

  15. Our issues have always been more than just coach deep. It starts and ends with this lazy, talentless, unfit list. Went from being 4 goals down after the first half to 20 goals. Disgrace.

  16. Lock this thread. If the Melbourne Football Club ever, EVER, tanks again. I am out. GWS aren't beating Collingwood today, we're going to show some fight and ragdoll the traffic cones next week, and our club is going to start winning back some respect.

  17. No!!!!! We need 5 PP's. of course we won't get them but I would start a media campaign now for as much as we can get in an ambit claim. It would be impossible to mount an argument against draft assistance for us. Currently we are an embarrassment.

  18. Hardly surprising. He actually plays for four quarters like he cares.

  19. I feel sorry for Byrnes - never in his life would he have thought he'd be playing in a team for the intellectually disabled.

  20. This is taking us back to early 2013, we are pretty average today. Anyone who argues that we don't need a PP doesn't live in the real world. We need a priority and we need to trade it for a ready made midfielder, somehow, somewhere. I'd be into Ollie Wines ear and I'd be given Port our pick 2, they can have Aish, we haven't got the time to develop much longer. We really are pathetic, as sad as it is to say.

  22. Three Quarter Time: Casey Scorpions 10.11.71 to Collingwood 8.8.56 Jesse Hogan's return to ¾ time is super-impressive: 19 touches, 10 marks and three goals.

  23. Jesse makes it 3 in a row for the Scorps but Pies quick reply. Hogan is absolutely on fire with his strong marking.

  24. Hogan again and the Scorps are suddenly 14 points up.

  25. Jack's turnaround and struggles mirror ours as a club, and while it won't be the end of the world should we lose him, he's a massively symbolic figure for our club and losing him would take away a bit of our soul. Jack re-signing would mean a hell of a lot to MFC and it's supporters, even though he may not be our best player (yet), he's one people identify with.

  26. I guess that's why he played his best game for us when we were well on top of Geelong??? Look it is a long way to go for him, we all know that. Give him some time to prove himself or not whatever the case will be, Ricciuto reckons he will be a gun and that's enough for me at the moment.

  28. I'd disagree with you on Hurley having a good footy brain, binman. He's a particularly dumb footballer for mine. That's one area Watts certainly has him covered. It's the different approaches to attacking the ball that may seem to place Hurley above, but he's just a rough, gruff boofhead really. Watts has vision and poise that Hurley would dream of, if his brain could work a little faster. Hurley's skills are reasonably average too. He can take a mark and he attacks the footy. He has size and that makes him dangerous, but aside from that very little else.

  31. Pathetic, disgusting, hopeless. What other adjectives can I think of? Pederson is the biggest liability on a field I have ever seen, which says something when I watch guys like Blease do nothing week in week out. Can't even begin to understand what the hell today is. It's seriously a mess.

  38. Both very disappointing players. Hurley is a poor man's David Neitz, who just hasn't progressed. Very ordinary contested mark, fumbles and just looks far better down back - always has, and Watts is one of the poorest pick number ones in history. If Watts was picked up at pick 50 you'd say he'd been an ok pick. You'd say he shows talent, but still has a tonne of work to do to become a player. But as pick ones go he's a total bust.

  40. Jimmy Bartel wrote an article discussing this exact thing. Everyone sees a Selwood or Judd come in and dominate from the start and think if an 18yo doesn't come in and do then they are no good. It's crap and I feel sorry for some of these kids that those players have put the pressure on them. Just let them play and get a feel for the game.

  41. I put 20 on at 16 to 1 for a win in a two horse race. If we are in it for the first 15 minutes we are in it for a long way. It's a big if but there are some midfield improvements happening with Max and Fitzy on the ball. I'm hoping for a massive input from Pedo to justify his career and contract. Go Redlegs.

  42. As opposed to all the other weeks, that have been kind? Most of the time the week after we play anywhere is unkind. We lose so often that it's impossible to say if Darwin is a factor or not.

  43. ...and there's part of the problem. They are taking the midfield places where Taggert should be played, at the moment he is sitting at half forward with a very occasional run as a mid. If Couch and Magner are not in serious contention for a senior berth then Taggert should be played there but maybe this is a problem of not having a stand alone team in the VFL.

  44. the other thing to consider is the bombers have been a stronger team, better supply and delivery to hurley than watts could get

  45. Yes, Jimmy Toumpas had an absolute stinker and was subbed out. But what I find most astonishing is that people are dismissing the FACT that the week before he had 20 possies and 7 tackles against the best team in the land, on their turf and in dismal conditions. Oh and by the way Wines had 8 possies against a far less superior opposition and in far better conditions. These boys are still kids!!!!!! They will be up and down until they mature. Although Wines is already a boy in a mans body. Jimmy had no preseason. At least let him get a full preseason in before making any judgment/predictions on him.

  46. Can I just say one quick thing. Not having a go at anyone, but I have bit my lip a fair few times when the whole 'GWS has failed' thing comes up. I live in the Western suburbs of Sydney and have since 1989. I have been through hell and back supporting not only my club, but the great game in general. Was teased and constantly hammered in the 90's, but I lived with it. I have played football for 2 clubs in Sydney, one in the early SFL days and still currently play for a Division 1 Sydney AFL club. Since the AFL jumped on the GWS thing, we have had 4 of our main grounds completely redone and in tip top condition with all new surface, lighting and irrigation systems. We have a full structured and solid competition, with not only a website that is constantly updated with scores, but now we are also getting live stats taken down as well. The kids at school now have Aus Kick available (prior to that PE teachers didn't even know the game to teach it). My friends 8 year old daughter came home the other day and told us she wants to play AFL. This would have been unheard of prior to the AFL's move in Western Sydney. I'm not having a go, but just try to think about all the little things that go on, before you all write off the GWS idea. There is a lot more to the community than just a team, they visit the schools, they spread the game and I couldn't be more proud of the great game in the city I live in. I will also be attending the game next week at Skoda Stadium with a whole bunch of friends who have recently gotten into the game. For as long as I remember it would just be my old man and myself at the Swans games cheering on the Demons all by ourselves. This has all changed since the AFL took interest into Western Sydney. It has truly made a huge difference and we constantly get new players to our club that have come over from Soccer and League. Those numbers increase every year.
