Danger!!! The Eagles are lurking.

We must be careful! We are only one game clear and 12 percentage points clear of the Weagles at the top of the table in the Nicholas Naitanui cup.

Its a long season and we must maintain our concentration and "key performance indicators" every week.

We must:

- continue to kick to opposing forwards at the kick-ins

- over possess until we turn the ball over on our backline

- if we don't turn it over then come to a stop in the midfield and wait until the opposition man up on our forwards

- refuse to chase

- kick off on step to a player who is manned up or standing still

- do loopy handpasses to teammates that are standing still or under the pump

- tackle with soft hands, or even better, one hand, and allow our opponents to break the tackle

- make sure that when we kick deep into the forward 50 that there are none of our forwards are there to mark it

- fall over at the contest (Robbo does this beatifully)

- the junk-time goals are OK but we must be careful here

- give away seemingly silly undisciplined frees and 50m penalties

It could also be time to drop Aussie Woneamirri and Nathan Jones to Sandringham. We don't want them spoiling our KPIs.

We can't afford to get complacent. Our boys need to look each other in the eye, Sydney Swans style, and commit to these goals and each other. As I said already, its a long season. Focus, focus, focus!!!

WC could get pick 60 for the next 20 years and they'd still make the finals 18/20 years. When you have their facilities, coaches and departments that they have, you can't help but NOT suck when playing for WC. Even Steven Armstrong was decent. They don't need pick 1. Whatever pick they get, that player will end up being better then our highest pick in this years draft.

Richmond looked good today but we need them and Carlton to win 5 games at least. I will seriously spew if we finish bottom and don't get the number one pick.

We play Richmond twice so they should get there. There can be no excuses for beating Richmond if they are under 5 wins.

West Coast Eagles team mascot > Melbourne Football Club

Nothing to worry about as far as I'm concerned. They are still better than us, and they still have a far greater home ground advantage than we do.

I'm worried about Carlton and Freo.

WCE wont take naitanui, they'll take daniel rich

if we had pick 1, and they had pick 2, id throw them pick 1 for pick 2 and (decent player here), or say we'll take rich... they'll take the trade, if not freo will offer us the world for pick 1 too

Weagles will win more matches than us. They have Cox, Kerr, Glass, and a host of other seasoned professionals who will see them over the line in a few games you'd think. They've at least been competitive at stages this year, where as we have not.

Nothing to worry about.

They are a far more professional club than us.

They know they will not be in the running this year and need to rebuild.

They will aim for early picks to assist with this

Correct Scoop.

I think we are tracking well for bottom spot but our access to draft pick order is in the hands of other clubs. If we were by some stroke of genius to beat either Carlton or Richmond this year and that Club does have less than 5 wins there should be some heads kicked at MFC.

And for all the hype and hoopla on this thread, how could you possibly make hard and firm comments about who MFC or any other Club will take in the draft?

Hot air over pure speculation.

West coast is a concern but the Blues are a massive concern. Without Thirnton for 6 weeks their backline is weakened even further.

As last year proved, if they get to round 12 with less than 5 wins you can put your money on them not winning another game for the year and wrapping up Natinui. Im really concerned.

I wouldn't worry about WCE, Carlton or Richmond.

It's my Bombers that will challenge for bottom spot.

No depth to go with the biggest injury list in the comp, and a hit and miss game plan means we may struggle to win another game for the year.

:lol::lol:

Firstly we dont know where MFC or other Clubs will finish in the draft. And secondly Naitanui and Rich may not be available to us.

And finally...how many of the pundits here actually see junior football that much beyond a Youtube take or a misquote on Bigfooty in making the choices over one or the other? Both Rich and Naita seem very talented and will go early but how of them have the experts seen? And there are those that do actually do the hard yards of investigation and review but they seem to get drowned in the sea of speculation at seasons end and even pre season end (if your team is not going so well)

Dreadlocks you say....

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
