Selection next week

That is also true. He keeps making critical errors inside the defensive 50, including some horrendous kick outs. Time to relieve the brain pressure of playing defence and let him play more attacking football.

His skills are too good to go back to Sandy, but he should definitely be given a run on the wing in Brisbane. He's one of the few who can deliver the ball to small forwards like Robbo instead of on top of them.

I'd like to see him tag Johnstone out on a wing. Travis has been decent for the lions this year without too much pressure and Bell would be too quick for him going forward.

I can already see Travis Johnstone having 35 touches and 8 goals

So three clanger kicks out of four, and he gets reported for abusive language it is.......

I actually don't think his skills are fantastic. Makes poor decisions and often misses targets.

Give him a run on the ball at Sandy and see what happens.

Agree..continually amazed at this lack of awareness..overrated at this point in time

A few people have Holland and Yze in theirs 'Ins' for this week? Is that likely to happen given they haven't been demanding selection when playing for Sandy. They should be rewarded if they have bee absolute standouts, but its hard not to feel that preference will be given to younger players.

I think we have to find room this week for Miller and Newton and give them some time to see if they have a future as a Forward combination. Alternate them between FF and CHF to see what clicks. We definetely seem to play better with some marking strength across half forward.

I really can't see Martin being brought in to the ruck, and one would suggest he is still learning the trade as a backman. Too early to throw him to the wolves.

Ins: Miller, Newton

Out: Neitz, ______ - not sure tbh - maybe there is more to the Whelan report than I saw, maybe Bell could do with a break, Jamar propbably doesn't deserve a spot, but who will ruck?

ll day running out of defence, there was nothing to kick to.. hence we looked our best when we ran the ball down the middle with handball and run!!

finally someone else realises that there is a plan and that when the players play to it the look alright and have success...

Won't happen but what I want is.

In: Bate (he is good enough to just get a game), Miller (has played pretty well since up forward again), Martin (just try him or Meesen in ruck this week), Buckley (worth another go.)

Out: Jamar (crap), Neitz (injured), Moloney (6 clangers and the free kicks), Bell ( what has happened to this guy)

I don't think Belly is half the player he used to be - that horrific, reckless, hip to the head by that mongrel Johnson may have affected his psyche. Denis Cometti reckons that Belly lacks awareness, but at the moment, the kid needs a shrink because he's gutsy and can play.

Getting awfully near round 7...but perhaps IT starts happening this week.

Possible line-up subject to Tribunal hearings etc

In: Martin, Bate, Garland, Newton,

Out: Jamar, Moloney, Carroll*, Neitz [inj],

FB: Whelan*, Martin, Bell

HB: Frawley, Rivers, Bruce

C: Morton, McLean, Bartram

HF: Bate, Dunn, Davey

FF: Wonaemirri, Newton, Green

R: White, Jones, McDonald

I/C: Sylvia, Garland, Wheatley, Robertson

Rationale: Brutal introduction to AFL but try Martin on Brown and see if he can use his height to at least make the spoil whilst also going for the odd spin in the ruck to relieve White. Frawley to take Bradshaw, freeing up Rivers to float. Bate in at expense of Moloney, and this means others will have to share the load through midfield as well [sylvia, Bruce, Green]. Give Garland a chance as a utility up forward as well as down back. Dunn was looking alright as a lead up CHF and then we dragged him, re-load and try again. Newton apparently has started to pull his finger out and is a straight swap for the injured Neitz. Carroll unlucky but would be retained if Wheels doesn't come up trumps at the tribunal.

lol good lucking trying to ruck then "rest" on Jonathan Brown

Whatever happens, we must drop Jamar.

I rather we go in with one ruckman (god knows we've been doing it for long enough) and get an extra runner in there.

B: FRAWLEY, GARLAND, BARTRAM

HB: BRUCE, RIVERS, SYLVIA

C: MORTON, MCLEAN, DAVEY

HF: BATE, MILLER, WONEAEMIRRI

F:GREEN, ROBERTSON, NEWTON

FOLL: JAMAR, JONES, MCDONALD

IC: DUNN, BELL,WHEATLEY, WHITE

EMERG: MARIC, MARTIN, WARNOCK

IN: Garland(Anything is better than Carroll), Bate(quality player), Miller(Bailey's love child),Newton(need to get games into him)

OUT: Carroll(If he plays this week he is definately another Bailey's love child a complete dud), Moloney(career over), Neitz(injury is a blessing in disguise he shouldn't be going out like this be he is), Whelan(he won't get suspended but he did hobble off shortley after that incident and I can't remember him coming back on and with his injury record he will probably miss a few weeks, if he doesn't then drop Wheatley)

Posted

Pretty straight forward now that we know Whelan, Neitz and Jamar will be out. I say Jamar with certainty because surely now Bailey has seen how poor he is.

Out: Whelan (susp), Neitz (inj.), Jamar

In: Miller, Meesen, Bate

If I have got Meesen's name wrong, then I'll hang myself because there is nothing more annoying!! But just on him, apparently he played well for Sandy and he has to be a better option than Jamar.

OUT: Neitz (inj) Whelan (susp) Jamar, Moloney

HF: Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, Aaron Davey

F: Brad Green, Russell Robertson, Austin Wonaeamirri

Foll: Jeff White, James McDonald, Nathan Jones

Int: Lyden Dunn, Daniel Bell, Stefan Martin, Shane Valenti

Emg: Colin Garland, Brent Moloney, Chris Johnson

Match-ups

  • Bradshaw usually has his way with Carroll. I'd give the job to Frawley who will at least will learn from the experience.
  • Best defender should get the best forward, so Rivers should go to Brown. But DB might want Jared playing 3rd man up, so in the spirit of development, welcome to the AFL Stefan Martin. Physically, he's our most suitable match-up. Collingwood's Nathan Brown got the big jobs early on, let's show the same faith in our young chargers.
  • Bruce on Brennan. Frawley gets a shot if Carroll goes to Bradshaw.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
