Can anyone tell me how many 2008 MFC members there are?

I thought I saw them flash up a MFC advertisement on the scoreboard at the MCG today which said 28,077 members. Does anyone know?

(Didn't look at the scoreboard too many times after the 15 minute mark of the 2nd quarter today - had face in hands most of the time in the 2nd half!)

yeh, thats last years membership numbers...they were using that in the pre-season whilst trying to sign up people for the "red and blue army"

I've noticed that as well. It got me excited when I first saw it. Then I realized that it was unnecessary hope. They're probably too embarrassed to put the real number on the screen, especially when the crowd is heavily in favour of a team that lost 14 games in a row.

OK - thanks for the replies.

Can anyone tell me the exact figures? That little 'thermometer' graph on the MFC website doesn't give an exact figure. They used to have the exact figure there, but that seems to be gone.

Maybe putting it back on will encourage more to sign up - then again look at the Bulldogs and how many haven't re-sgned there.

Cheers,

Moose

There's been discussion on 3AW about whether or not Melbourne should have a cheaper membership which doesn't allow entry to games but it still a membership. A lot of other clubs have them. The problem I see with it is that we obviously need both members and larger crowds, this kind of membership will not help at all with our poor attendances. What do people think?

I think it would work to generate interest, like free product tasting at a supermarket however at the moment we're not exactly a delicacy.

I reckon higher membership numbers will always influence sponsors & television. Besides, the higher numbers will always look good.

There is nothing wrong with armchair memberships. Its additional income to the club & gives the member a sense of belonging to their club.

The cheaper membership is the perfect way to start it up with MCC members.

As soon as you walk through the turnstiles at the MCC the 40 dollar membership table is infront of you, people walk past and buy one. My mate the other day walked in saw it and said, whats that? I told him he said, yeah I'll buy one. It's quick and easy and is great for an impulse buyer.

He doesn't go for MFC but just thought o well a bit of cash and im a member helping another team. Then by the end of the game he was bragging that we won because he became a member, but thats another story.

Indeed.

For people who don't go to any/many games, I'd say a 'traditional' 11/16 membership is hard to justify.

However, a cheaper m/ship may entice those who do want to give to the Club, and be a part of it.

There were quite a lot of people on Sunday signing up their memberships before the Freo game.

Hopefully after that great win, lots more will.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
