Watching Valenti, I think he has the footy brain and the handball speed and accuracy to be a good player for us. Footy history is littered with great players who were considered too slow. Diesel Williams and Sam Mitchell are too who come to mind. James Hird wasn't that quick you know. Whatya reckon?

i would love to see valenti in the red and blue but the problem at the moment is that DB's "gameplan" requires high speed and i think thats why people would be worried

Interesting comment about Williams. How would he go in the tough rotational hard running game? Mitchell is flanked by faster players. Valenti would be more of the same at MFC.

You don't have to have great leg speed to move the ball quickly, but you do need to have a good football brain backed up with the ability to perform under pressure...

As MFC have shown that we are little one paced when it comes to possession of the ball and breaking opposition defensive efforts. A lack of leg speed also makes it easier for the opposition to run off you and reduces the defensive pressue you apply.

Not having speed is fine when you have the ball, provided that you can find a way to move it quickly.

But being slow KILLS you when the opposition have the ball.

Look at the whole game, not just the fun bits where someone takes a hanger in the goal square. The spectacular efforts don't win you games, the defensive efforts do.

I wonder why he hasn't dropped Robbo, and we may even see that tonight for all I know. Newton has already been dropped. Neitz is a difficult one.

However Miller is not the most talented player, but he busts his nut in doing the team things, which includes chasing and defensive pressure. He will keep his spot in the side (IMO) until the culture of the team is strong enough to accomodate his absence - and that looks a fair way off.

But I definitely think that we will see a smaller, more mobile forward line in the future.

Agree we are very one paced, even Flash looked like he'd lost a step with the added muscle he has put on. But we also do not have enough gut busting runners like a Mitchell, our blokes don't have the heart to push as hard.

If Valenti can make smater descisions than our current players then get him onboard, I mean you have fella like Buckley (who I want to see play most of the year) who has pace but handballs to no one more often than not.
