In my opinion, these are the 10 most important players on the list in terms of the MFC going forward after 2008

1. Cale Morton

2. Nathan Jones

3. Jared Rivers

4. Colin Sylvia

5. Matthew Bate

6. Adam Maric

7. Clint Bartram

8. Aaron Davey

9. Brock McLean

10. Lynden Dunn

last spot a toss up between Dunn, Frawely, Petterd, Grimes and Buckley

Now, 18-24 months ago there is no doubt this list would have contained the names Neitz, Robertson, Whelan, Green, Bruce and White

But things change in a hurry in footy. We have to invest in the future, and Bailey knows that

Be prepared for plenty more drubbings in 2008, but it will be worth it in the long run

I'd put Neitz at number one.

If he plays well and is kicking goals it means the whole team is up and running, Aaron Davey in second spot then probably Rivers and Carrol because of where they play.

The rest can have a raffle (but White and Johnson get extra tickets because of where they play)

Disagree. It's at the stage where Neitz plays ok IF the team plays well, rather than the other way around.

I'm interested to know what team you follow mate.

Rivers is No. 1 for mine, but if they are our best 10, we are up [censored] creek without a boat, let alone a paddle.

They are not our best 10, not yet anyway

But our 10 most important going forward

if the team is playing well and Neitz is only ok then logic says for him to be having a good game Melbourne are dominating :P

he's still the captain of the side and one of the few who leads by example and is willing to offer everything he has for the team.

I barrack for Essendon, just signed up to found out how Trent Zomer was going and I've just sorta stuck round

Rightio.

Still, bit of a concern.

Bate, Sylvia and Dunn are all massive worries.

Last year McLean would have been first on your list and Newton would have been close behind. What has changed? 2 bad games in McLean's case, 1 bad game in Newton's case. They will improve over the course of the season.

FWIW...

1. Nathan Jones

2. Brock McLean

3. Matthew Bate

4. Jared Rivers

5. Ricky Petterd

6. James Frawley

7. Michael Newton

Disappointingly we have only one player that would make the Cats line up. Even though they have a great backline Rivers would get a game.

That's it.

No tall player in the Top 10!

We are going to be limited in that regard for the future if the No 1 ruck cannot get at least birth 9 or 10.

Agree Rhino ... and if we are looking at our most valuable going forward, I would find a spot for PJ. Only two games in, but IMO he's shown more than most, and enough to suggest that he can develop into a pretty solid ruckman if given the opportunity.

When on form, Davey would replace Byrnes, who is a very ordinary footballer playing for a very extraordinary team.

aka 2006. A bit long in the tooth I think.

Davey is competing with Matty Stokes.

Matty Stokes >>>>>>> Davey

Mines not quite the same, but in the vacinity. I'd probably put Batram and Bell above McLean.

LOL, we're screwed, LOL

Oh man, eveytime I think about it I laugh

AGREED!

And he's in again this week....

dunn is going backwards and is totally immobile.

i think simon buckley should scrape in because of his ability to break the lines, and when he starts to kick like he did for sandringham then he'll be a gun.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
