CEO down to Two - Footy Classified

Craig Hutchinson just announced on Footy Classified that the CEO search is down to two. Stuart Fox who is marginally ahead of Paul Macnamee. fox is currently second in charge at Geelong under Brian Cook.

This was just after Caroline Wilson said we have a shocker off season with all sorts of worries and Garry agreed claiming this was one of the most important years in the clubs history (150 notwithstanding)

Looks like the calibre of those on the short list is good so that is promising. Clearly MFC needs a strong and proactive new CEO ASAP!!

A note of caution - we need to be guarded and the MFC Board MUST ensure that the appointment of the new CEO will also ensure the continued independence of the MFC and not result in the MFC becoming more subserviant to the will and agenda of the AFL. Taking the comments on Mick Conlan from the noted article for example -

"Conlan, a close friend of former AFL No. 2 and Football Federation chief executive Ben Buckley, has strong relationships with the key AFL executives Andrew Demetriou and Gillon McLachlan and has been sounded out about his interest in chief executive positions in the past."

I have nothing against Mick and loved watching him play & so is not a comment on him.

My concern arises from the way the AFL is turning OUR 150th milestone into its anniversary. FFS the AFL is not 30 years in existence and VFL not establishes 150 years ago either! As we know Harris fell foul of the AFL Admin and his relationship with them deteriorated although I believe the AFL "approved" his appointment. Would not be good if tenure of MFC CEO is at AFL's decision. Not to say Harris should have stayed as he did not have what is needed going forward so change of CEO is needed.

A strong, vibrant and independant MFC is in the interests of everyone inlcuding the AFL!

The AFL did not approve the Harris appointment. The MFC Board appointed him.

I think we need a 'name' TM. Not saying that Conlan isn't, but McNamee attracts attention wherever he goes, which is exactly what this club needs.

The AFL do not get to choose who we appoint as their CEO, they have absolutely no say whatsoever and nor did they when we appointed Harris. The best they might be able to squeeze in a board member, but they haven't done that to date either.

I wish they would jsut get the process finished and get someone in. This can not be to main talking point about the MFC leading into its 150th year. The marketing of our club has been pathetic to date, Membership numbers are the lowest in the league by a long way, Our preseason form has been concerning the only thing that may save the club from being in the red is a couple of big functions to celebrate its 150th year.

If we go into the red this year we will be the AFL's next relocation target.

All the AFL can do in effect is a bit like the Queen re GG.. You offer up who you want.,., and its rubber stamped. The AFL might mumur should a choice be an absolute fwit.. but as thats not going to happen..their input is about this >< big !!

I share your concerns DrD...getting the new CEO pronto would be a huge boost.

I imagine the admin staff will be holding back and waiting to see what the new CEO proposes, losing us valuable time to get the membership numbers up in the interim.

Most of the 150th year celebrations / events appear to be centered around the actual birthday as opposed to celebrating the 150th year. At this rate the only way we are going to hit 30,000 members is if Golly's dog goes onto IVF and produces an Uber-litter!
