Re - New AFL teams

I was reading in the paper today about the possibility of clubs nominating 10 players that are untouchable to the new Gold Coast side that is starting up by 2011. Obviously, the new club could poach a player or 2 from MFC that are not nominated as un-touchable.

So hypothetically, if MFC had to release up a list of 10 untouchables at the end of 2008, who would they be:

1) Brock McLean

2) Nathan Jones

3) Jared Rivers

4) Cam Bruce

5) Aaron Davey

6) Matthew Bate

7) Colin Sylvia

8) Daniel Bell

9) Cale Morton

10) Ricky Pettard (Queensland connection, so would be targetted)

Thoughts? What are yours?

My would be

1)Mclean

2)Jones

3)Rivers

4)Sylvia

5)Newton

6)Frawley

7)Davey

8)Bate

9)Morton

10)Bell

That would keep a good spine in Frawley Rivers Mclean Morton/Bate Newton and a few handy young players. Green and Bruce aren't our future they are good for now but we need the above group to be our core players.

tell you at the end of the season.... a bit pointless now ??

I honestly don't believe that we have anybody who is untouchable, but it'd take alot to get rid of McLean or Jones.

McLean

Jones

Rivers

Sylvia

Davey

Morton

Grimes

Maric

Petterd

Garland

I suspect that newly drafted players would be 'untouchable' anyway. They are guaranteed 2 years on a list and I doubt the AFL would want them shunted after one year.

So do your top 10's without Morton, Grimes, ect.

Some amazing names in those lists ...

Mine is:

Jones

Bartram

McLean

Bate

Frawley

Morton

Dunn

Petterd

Rivers

Davey

Meesen, Newton, Garland, Buckley, Grimes, Maric and others could force their way in there by the end of 2008, but it's a bit early to call them yet. The players in my list all need to make significant progress in 2008 to stay on it.

I like it...haha

1. Brock Mclean...young leader, coragous....by far one of the MVP's

2. Nathan Jones...my favourite player...young and a ball magnet

3. Mathew Bate...loads of potential, good mark, good kick

4. Aaron Davey...the livewire of the team, absolute brilliance

5. Daniel Bell...our next great defender

6. Colin Sylvia...brimming with potential, lets hope he is not the next TJ, way too young to tell

7. Jarad Rivers...such an important defender

8. Ricky Pettard...time will tell

9. Simon Buckley...time will tell

10. Shane Valent (if he counts as a rookie player), if not John Meeson...i think there is a lot to like about him

I can't believe that so many people have Bell as an untouchable. We're a lot worse off than I thought. FWI, I'll take old55's list and his rider about potential untouchables.

Only one is untouchable this year. David Neitz. The rest....everything is for sale

He will retire at the end of the year so he is irrelevant to the topic.

Old's list is close. After the first six players there are a number of possible combinations. Alot will depend on how players perform and the fitness they hold throughout.

If my list was set and the new clubs were in now they'd be looking at Bruce, Green, Bell and Sylvia.

i doubt they would look at bruce, green too much because they would want younger players to develop...even if they want to come in with a bang, they would want young talent IMO, and as if green and bruce at 27 going on 28 i think would be in our top ten as we look to the future...absolute legends, but if put brock and jones over all four players that u have mentioned

A W. Sydney and Gold Coast Club will have to seek to be competitive to attract sponsors, members and supporters. They will want a high degree of their list to be ready to go AFL footballers. They may not have the window or patience of established clubs to have a high degree of young talent that may take up to 3 to 4 years to blossom.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
