Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not gonna be a popular question this...

I still can't get past Jones' limitations... But then with the doubts I've had since he joined the club, he should never have achieved the things he already has, so I'm not sure he'll be the kind of player defined by his limitations, rather he will be defined by his strengths... ie Rob Harvey won't be remembered as a short-arse player with a bad kick, he'll be remembered as a TRUE champion because of his brain, longevity, hard work etc etc... I'm not saying Jones will reach those heights (not saying he won't either :) ), but hopefully he'll not be known for a shortish up-and-under kick and his small size...

But I digress. I put Brock ahead because of marking ability, ability to stand up in a tackle, kicking penetration, general hardness in the clinches (though I do realise nathan is always the last to get up at the stoppages, always at the bottom of the pack) and mostly the amount he has achieved thus far. McLean's young but has monstered more games than Chunk...

But yes, by gee you wouldn't want to lose either. Would stroll comfortably onto any list in the AFL both of them...

id have to say mclean..i prefer jones simply because he is our next big cult hero...but he still racks up a fair few crucial errors during matches...brock in terms of valuability is better because of his leadership ability, hard work ethic and the way he goes about his football...thats not to say jones could be as good if not better than brock in those assets one day

Does it matter? Both are crucial parts of the team and missing one is a big blow to the side but having both is pure bliss

That's what forums are all about you idiot. I hate people that write that crap. If people want to talk about it they can and let them. If you dont care about the topic, dont read it. It makes for good discussion.

Personally, McLean for me. Better skills and a match-winner.

Yes true but half of these threads end up in arguements and i dont like that crap. So if you must know i chose Brock Mclean at the moment but i think at the end of both of there careers Jones will have achieved more. Who knows only time will tell

Tough call...They are both of very high importance to the team. They are similar players - not overly quick, but they put their head over the ball and are capable of kicking goals (which all onballers must be able to do in today's game).

However, I think Jones is marginally ahead. I think Brock's susceptibility to injury will limit his ability to have a prolonged impact throughout his career. Also, Jonesy's bald nut is more likely to attract the attention of the umps in terms of brownlow votes!!!

I'd probably say McLean will have the better career if injury is kind to him. Has special leadership qualities on-field (certainly not off-field at the moment) and is one of the rare MFC players that opposition fans highly rate.

But for some reason, I hope Jones has the better career.

We're lucky to have both players on the list.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that at the end of their careers Jones will have achieved more and played at a higher level more consistently.

I agree with you, jarka

I still think Mclean has greater capacity to break games open. I also think he has an intensity on the field which can shift the mental state of other players, friend and foe. A fierce presence which could be priceless in a grand final, or in a tight game any time.

For me the defining feature of Jones is relentless effort. Not every game has been great, not every clearance has been effective, but he is always in there - you can see so clearly that he never thinks 'that can be someone elses job'. I'd speculate that he will become a magnificently consistent performer hovering among the 'bests' list in almost every game.

Looking into the rose-coloured crystal ball, I see a Norm Smith Medal for Mclean, and five podium finishes in the Brownlow for Jones (Scott West style - though the shiny head might get him the extra 5%).

If I had to pick one to have the flu for a single must-win game, Jones would go out. But I'd be miserable about it.

Jones for me.

We dont have any other of his type in the team. How long have we been crying out for a bottom of the pack, ball getter?

Plus, you can only affect games if you are on the field, and Jones has a much better recore so far.

Brock for me just.

Love Jones but i still think his kicking is a little iffy at times (especially in front of goal). Another link to his idol Robert Harvey.

Whatever the case, these two boys are the future of MFc.

They'll give everything to the cause or die trying.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
