Heard on 3AW this morning that Bev O'Connor wants to put her hand up for the BIG job at MFC ... the first female president in the AFL. There have been lots of rumors that Paul Gardner wants out.

Paul said last week on 3AW that he would be the President in 2008 but who knows after that.!!!!

3AW rumor file has a high % of correct rumors.....let's just wait and see !!!!!

Bev's appeared to have done a good job on the board, but only those on the board would really know. If she gets the nod in the future then clearly she's impressed those who do the hard yards at that level. Contrary to some opinion, it's not all champers on match day.

Secondly, Max Walker would only ever be a figurehead president. Loyal servant etc and your proverbial top bloke but I doubt he'd bring the necessary smarts to the table.

I think Bev's seriously great, if she wants the Big job then I for one will be right behind her. B)

Im behind whatever melbourne want to do. They have so far made some great decisions...some of which called for a tough decision (ie TJ) but they are right on the money with the coach, changing the board, footy opps manager, assistant and ground coaches and the new facility. were heading in the right direction and if the board think Bev is the one for the job ill back em 100%

And what issue or contribution do you base that view on?

I'm not particularly AGAINST Bev getting the top job - - - but what's the background/experience that she would bring to the table that would qualify her for the job.

I know she's been on TV, but has she ever ran a business or made a squillion or invented something or whatever

Beverly O'connor is quoted in Sunday Herald Sun "they are dreaming" and "Paul Gardner has her full support". She felt football presidents today needed some independent means to afford the time while she was still out there making a living.

Bev is a team member and will do whatever is best for the club. She is right about having a life outside of football as being a board member doesn't pay the bill.

For those of you who are not aware being a board member is not a paid position.

And if the next award is for 'pointless sniping with little or no basis' you'll be up on stage next.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
