  1. Jee-Zuss.... We've just been pantsed by 50 points and been patronised and condescended to by Eddie and Derm in seriously nauseating commentary, and you're all delighted with this hiding not being as bad as our recent hiding. Give me a break
  2. I see on the club's website, they're pushing a training camp, and another "one or two games" a year in Darwin. I understand the financial pressures, but the climate's just too harsh up there, and two or (worse) three trips up there during winter could really be too much. It's not just the week of the match but the effect of the humidity on the players the following week that would be the worry. Melbourne (the city) needs a boutique 25K to 30K stadium along the lines of (but not) Visy Park for these smaller games. I fear 3 games in Darwin would do us no good at all.
  3. Tacked on to the election promise of $$ for upgrading Ballarat for Nth Melbourne, was a promise of $7m to upgrade Collingwood's Westpac Centre for a home for Netball. Wasn't the recently announced feasability study into our potential move to Docklands to include a joint home with Netball ? And, does that mean that this possibility has now been scuttled ?
  4. The club is recognised as being founded in 1858, not 1859. Geelong was founded in 1859.
  5. Don't know that it's THAT great news, is it?? 2 less chances to go to the footy. Pretty brutal climate - - may not be easy to bounce back the following week. One upside is that our indiginous lads will love it. It's cos we're broke - - so it's to be accepted not celebarated. It's better than when we used to hand Brisbane 4 points and 6% every year, I guess. Meanwhile our mortal enemies get something like 18 games on the G every year. It's out own fault: 15,800 at the weekend's match was terrible. At the very least, you'd want it capped at 2: Hawthorn's deal (4 out of 11 home games sold off) makes them virtually a TV club or only a Claytons Victorian club at best. 2 in Darwin makes more sense than 1 in Darwin and 1 in Canberra.... which is effectively handing another home fixture to the Swans. A necessary evil not the cause for a party.
  6. Just a brief glimpse on Ch 10 news of him walking into the Junction today. A nice boost for the team and coaches, and for him hopefully.
  7. They've all got that annoying square MFC logo. I won't buy any merchandise until it's flicked and replaced by a demon or MFC or something.
  8. Does Dudley actually draw the raffle? I've kind of suspected that he just keeps selling tickets and selling tickets as he has for a hundred years... with a view to drawing the thing ONE day
  9. For God's sake... Lighten up. Who cares about that Adelaide rock-ape... and who cares if he was boo'd by 14,000 hardy Demons who had nothing else to yell about. Look at all the stereotype jokes about Melbourne Supporters that you hear: "Go Number 9" That stupid radio ad for office furniture that starts with, "There's no finanial crisis here in Toorak" and ends with the Ivan from Ivanhoe style "Go Deez" So our supporters can be impolite, exercise questionaable taste, and be hypocrites. Just like everyone else's, I'd say.
  10. Four looks a big number from where we are and looking at the draw ahead. Don't think you'll end up being [censored] of, Freak.
  11. 29,463. We'll get done by under 12 points
  12. This is just plain deranged. We are the MELBOURNE football club, and our mission should be to sink or swim in Melbourne. 10 things to consider: 1. NZ wouldn't want it and their Govt. wouldn't be as silly as the Tasmanians who Kennett has conned out of millions. 2. It depends on what you want your experience of your football club to be: Going and seeing them at matches or watching them on TV: I can't see how turning your club into a TV show will grow your membership. 3. Kennett's a slick salesman and the Hawks supporters are putting up with it because they're winning.... but selling 4 home games out of 11 just disenfranchises your membership base too much. Wait till they start losing games (including their Tasmanian games) and see how keen people are to follow a club that they get to go and see so seldom. 4. When the Tassie deal finishes, they'll try and squeeze themselves into the already tight Melbourne market... better that we're here all along so that they have to push their way into our turf. 6. I've suspected for a long time that there's something about Hawthorn's membership numbers that just doesn't add up. If they really have 40,000 members (as Collingwood do) then why on earth would they need to sell 4 of their 11 home games (as Collingwood or Carlton or Essendon would never dream of). It's clear that Melbourne, North Melbourne and the Bulldogs need the dollars.... Why would a club with 40,000 genuine members need to sell over a third of their games? 7. Darwin's too hot and steamy. NZ is too cold and neither would grow our base here. In time we'd be talked about in terms of moving fully over there the way that some poster here talks of Hawthorn moving to Tassie. 8. We're unique: We didn't grow out of a town or a suburb. We grew out of a sporting ground. For better or worse our future is tangled up with that ground. 9. The survival of North Melbourne, the Bulldogs and us lies in getting better stadium deals: Geelong's ground holds less than 25,000 people.... but they make an absolute fortune out of their home games down there... 20,000 to 25,000 at the G or Telstra Dome, and North, Dogs and us have to write a cheque to the AFL... There are signs that the AFL understands the inequity in the stadium deals. This is where our hope lies. 10. As I say at #8: We're unique. We need a unique solution to our unique problems. We're not Hathorn and what works forr them isn't even relevant to others... and I predict what works for them (Tassie) will come and go... and they'll be down the same drain that we are now.
  13. Demons is who we are I suppose and I certainly don't support dropping it for Melbourne fc. I just fine the whole "Go Deez" thing effeminate and insipid. It's Demons, not D's !! It goes with range rovers, ski trips and leather elbow patches to me..
  14. We should never leave the MCG - - but the AFL has to come up with a better deal for clubs like us, North, Western Bulldogs - even Saints, because it's near impossible for these clubs' home games against interstate teams to be financiallly viable... The AFL's previously been happy for these games to be sold interstate. The clubs either sell tham (with backlash from members) or plead and beg us to attend - like the recent Freo game. With 2 new interstate teams coming, it'll be worse. There has to be a way for these games to be made financially viable. Reality is: This should have been the role for Princes Park. I'd rather play Freo there than Darwin, Cairns or Canberra
  15. Our Chairman who does this for a living came up with "The Team for Melbourne" and "Melbourne's football team."..... which not only had no effect but was laughable because there are actually nine team's for Melbourne, and all but two are bigger than us. It'll be just dandy if people in Shanghai have us as their favourite team... but how the hell can we turn a buck out of tthat?
