A reliable source (the next door neighbour of my brother's ex-girlfriend) has told me that we are making a big play for Kayne Pettifer

A trade for an unknown MFC player is on the cards.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Kayne who?

Has this bloke done anything in his career?

Melbourne would be stupid to go anywhere near him.

Has been a 30-35 goal a season small forward for the last 3 years. May have been a chance for a trade if Robbo had left but unlikely.

Again, only a chance if Bailey sees Davey and Sylvia playing in the midfield next year.

I would be livid if we picked up another hack like Pettifer. It would be akin to our acquisition of Gary Moorecroft in my opinion. We have enough pinch-hitting midfielder-cum-forwards that I can safely say we do not need another [censored] forward to kick our goals.

Moorcroft was a dud. He was a dud before we got him and he didn't get better from then.

Pettifer is better than that and is more of a genuine small forward than a "pinch hitter". Also the 37 goals he kicked last year in the bottom side would have put him a clear second on our goal kicking list. That said, if we wanted a player like that, I'd much rather go for someone like Higgins from the bulldogs - but he's not likely to be available.

At least we're recognising our need for crumbers.

We are hopeless at keeping the ball in our forward half, what with Yze, Robbo and Neita and their superb speed and willingness to chase

Agree with this.

I was hoping Davey would stay in the forward line next year along with Sylvia to combat this problem.

What I meant was we have enough pinch-hitters that we don't need another hack version of Robbo to play in the forward line. If Pettifer was either quick, or mercurial, I would see no problem with taking him, but he is just another lead out small forward. If we are looking for small forwards, there are infinitely better options available, who would bring some x-factor to the forward line as well.

That's fair enough. Like I said, if Higgins was available, he'd be a much better option.

I went to about 8 Richmond games last year and I was impressed with Pettifer. He always bobbed up for 2 or 3 goals, and is an excellent lead. But I've heard on countless occassions that he's a tool.

Ferg and pick 3 for Pettifer and pick 4.

He isn't a poor player by any means, although he seems to need some cover and has real trouble being the first choice small forward.

But when even Tiger fans think that he is a complete [censored] personally, it probably isn't a great sign  !!!

Pick 3 currently belongs to Carlton and is bound for WCE via the Judd deal. Your scenario doesn't look too good ATM.

Never let the truth stop the beginning of a good draft rumour. ;)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
