Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

does it bother anyone else that we had both lyon and stynes there? it's not like either are involved with the club in any official capacity... seems like we were perhaps trying a bit hard to remind judd about the past and not the future?

It never hurts to tug the heart strings every now and again plus hes good friends with gary and jimmys into good things which he might just be into himself

Lyon was just on the panel that helped select the new coach..not involved ??

Stynes is an ace up our sleeve.

Personally I would have been annoyed had they NOT been there :)

This is actually untrue. Lyon mentioned this on MMM last night, pre-game (that he didn't know Judd that well).

Otherwise, you're right. Both Lyon and Stynes, as well as being greats of the club, are two very high calibre people.

I notice we haven't cracked it for a mention in the papers this morning, unless you count that pathetic little snippet at the tail end of an article about Chick and Sampi in the Sun. Some people will moan that nobody gives a toss about us, yet this is another reason why Judd will come to us. If he goes to Collingwood or Essendon he'll become a celebrity, rather than a footballer, and that notion sickens him, I think you'll find. Every day this goes on, another reason for optimism.

we're flying under the radar...lets stay that way :D

its generally accepted that Judd revered both Lyon and Stynes..

Get your brownlow tapes out I'm pretty sure Judd said something along the lines of how sureal it was winning the brownlow he could remember watching Jim Stynes win it as a kid.

Oh and Gary Lyon there is a reason he wore 3 at the Eagles

I'm finding the Chris Judd saga like the Olympic bidding process. Plenty of shmoozing by the prospective host clubs, and brown paper bags left under the table.

I'm just waiting for Juan Antonio Judd to announce, "And the winner is .................."

:D

The main thing that scares me about him being swayed by Collingwood is not the money, facilities, resources etc. but the spirit within the playing group. I hate Collingwood as much as anyone, but I have to admit I really admire the way they fight out games and refuse to give up and that must be really appealing to someone looking for a new club.

When you contrast that with the lack of spirit we've shown in so many games over the last few years and the fact that many of our so called club 'leaders' really lack that steel it might be one thing which really puts him off and encourages him to choose the Pies.

Hopefully Bailey convinced him that is one thing he's going to change about the Dees. I for one really hope that is one of the main things he'll bring to the club and I'm confident he will.

C'MON DEMONS!!!

Jeez you're absolutely spot on the money with this post mate. I was thinking these exact same thoughts as I watched the Pies in their prelim final last night and also thinking to how they got up over the Eagles at Subi as well. That kind of spirit is one helluva an advertisement for Judd. When you consider the crowd pulling power of Collingwood, the match day atmosphere they never fail to generate I think they'd have to be in the box seat to get Judd.

Lets just hope that we can manage to get a good deal out of this by holding the Pies to ransom over our 4th pick. I'd take Nick Maxwell and their first rounder for pick 4 with maybe someone like Miller thrown in as a sweetener.

I had a discussion at my work with a Blues supporter and he said that apparently in the interview we asked him whether he wanted to play for Melbourne, and he added, with a goofey grin, Judd took his jacket off and revealed a Melbourne top.

I know it's probably BS, but a i guy can dream!

I highly doubt that this was true, if he really wanted to come to melbourne he would have just nominated us from the start and not bothered with the rest of the crap.

Of course its not true. Extreme unprofessionalism anyone?

But he may really want to come here. By putting himself around though, he WILL get his price up with us. It doesn't work the other way, say if he wanted to go to Carlton and he used the possibility of going to us to get his price up, because we are a somewhat impoverished operation. However we will pull out all the stops (or near enough) to match Carlton's/Collingwood's/Essendon's bids, and so Judd will wind up with a better deal. We can't afford to rely on sentiment alone to get us home. I fancy it will be what wins us the race, but if Judd had said from the start that he was dying to play for MFC, then we wouldn't go to half the lengths we have. We wouldn't have to.

Just on Footy Classifieds:

The meeting with Melbourne was apperantly very impressive and Judd was impressed with Dean Bailey (inspired selection?!).

Gary Lyon said that he tried to break the perception of the MFC as poor and unsuccessful. Interestingly, in the last 10 years, 3 teams have played more finals than any other; West Coast, Essendon and MELBOURNE.

The club also went through the new facilities and gave Judd a presentation on our list. It's a good thing we've had this 'Get Judd' committee set up, as we were obviously well prepared for the pitch.

Good stuff all around.

Dean Bailey is without a doubt a massive wild card for us. I'm sure he's more impressive one-on-one than Ratten (who didn't make our shortlist), and whoever they have representing Essendon at the moment (The Velvet Sledgehammer! :D)

It was stated that Judd found the presentation "overwhelming" and Dean Bailey "incredibly impressive". "Melbourne are in this up to their necks".

The dream is still alive.

He did look very happy didn't he? It was like he was trying to hide the excitement, but the camera juuust caught him looking like the proverbial cat...

Couldn't help but get the giggles at that. Whether we get Judd or not, it seems like our camp has done everything possible, and that encourages me greatly.

Found it interesting that Garry stated that Judd would DEFINATELY NOT captain an AFL club next season.

Not much focus on the Essendon meeting, apart from Hird being present...

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
