Melbourne v Collingwood

Let's be hypothetical and say that Chris Judd rules out all the clubs not at the MCG which leaves Melbourne and Collingwood.

Apart from his previous loyalties, do we have anything to offer Judd?

They have better training facilities until we move, but we will be sharing after that.

They have bigger crowds

Ian Johnson can offer his missuss a job, yet so can Eddie.

We have a great young list, they have DALE Thomas.

We have a new coach and a great start, they have up tp date technology like at WC.

I don't like saying this, but it's better not to get our hopes up.

What have I missed?

Actually, I think the best case scenario for Melbourne is if Judd nominates Melbourne and Collingwood as his two preferences to West Coast. West Coast would presumably rather deal with Melbourne anyway, but we've got plenty more to offer in a trade than Collingwood.

Chris Judd will do the right thing by the WCE also, he knows that they will want at the very least a top 5 pick and a player or another late first round/early second. The WCE won't accept the Pies 13-17 pick, then they have to trade, what do they have that is worth a top 5 pick IMO nothing and I'm sure that three clubs Essendon, Melb and Carlton aren't going to trade a pick that will broker this deal and Richmond need to get a good kid or there supporters will turn even more hostile than they already are.

I can see us offering our current first and second round pick and maybe a player, will that be enough we can only hope so.

the ox is sure he will go to carlton...

Then we are a dead set certainty to get him!!!!!

The Ox was great when he played for us..... Since then he has become quite the tool

Once Judd picks his team of preference its reaaly nothing to do with him.

Forr mine....many misrepresentations of influence and power have been put out there and simply accepted as 'read"

Firstly. WCE has NO say in where he goes. A t best they can operate in a reactive manner.. Its not as if Judd is going to ask ..."is it Ok if I go here...or there !!".

Secondly. WCE can jump up and down and ask for this or that. Its irrelevant. They will dealwith what ever cards are available , they cant invent them. Ive mentioned this before but the Eagles are playing a very clever game of bluff. On the one hand Judd is going all in..on the other they are holding NOTHING.

Judd may of course ideally want to see WCE not come off too poorly ( else it may reflect on him also...dont forget that), but if Judd was really concerned about the Eagles he wouldt be leaving; to me all thats just moot.

Keep in mind.. when it comes down to the argy bargy..WCE arent driving this. If they balls it up...they get NOTHING !!

All I read is WCE want this...or that..they want want want...But its really about what they Get get get !!

Remeber when Nick Stevens said he wanted to play for Collingwood?

Who's he playing for now?

It doesn't matter who Judd wants to play for, if the weagles arent happy with what that club is prepared to offer, it's just bad luck for Chris. I'm just a bit unsure with what Collingwood can offer...

I disagree. Stevens isnt Judds bootlaces.

if Collingowod had had got their act together , Stevens would be in black and white today.. It was an ugly example of moving clubs. This is as transparent as it possibly could be. Its not last minute. Everything wil be in place BEFORE trade week even starts officially.

I understand what youre saying.. but Judd id going where Judd wants to go.. WCE can just suck it in!!

It's important to keep all this in mind because if Judd nominates Collingwood and they can't do a deal then he may have to settle for Melbourne or wind up at Richmond (PSD). Juddy will not be at the club he nominates until the deal is done in trade week.

My feeling is Colingwood won't be able to accomodate WC and will get little help form other clubs to pull off a deal.

I think our biggest asset against Collingwood is the mindset of the Eagles management. See below:

http://news.realfooty.com.au/deadlock-if-j...75122-10bx.html

Yer I saw that as well. Still sick of these hacks putting in that 'Judd prefers Collingwood'. They haven't got a clue.

But in spite of what Nisbett says, I don't believe it's his doubting Collingwood's ability to come up with a trade. They could pull some strings and find something, just like anybody else. WC are extremely reluctant to do business with Collingwood. In fact I think they'll almost flat out refuse, the way this is going. Collingwood are wasting their time. Even if Judd did want to go there (which I sincerely doubt), WC will not do business with Collingwood.

judd is an elite player, would he rather play for the filth against essendon on anzac day in front of 85,000 or for MFC against port adelaide in front of 12,000 on mothers day??? were too low profile because weve accepted medeocrity for too long. MFC will be graceful in missing out on judd, like we always are....

I went to the game last night and found it amusing listening to some Filth supporters talking about Judd. They were saying "Why would Judd want to go to those other 3 clubs, if he wants to play in finals he definitely be coming to us".

It's amazing how oblivious some supporters are to the fact that 3 of the final 4 teams this year(including the 2 GF's)didn't make the 8 last year.

Of course whn Melbourne came up, one of the lady's then went on to say "They don't even have a coach do they?", and the idiot who corrected went on to give her a name that barely resembled Dean Bailey.

God i hate filth supporters. Not as arrogant as Bomber supporters, just plain dumb and ignorant.

It's not hack journalism, it's an honest initial assessment from Judd's management. They haven't a closed mind, but there's been a definite "if we can get to Collingwood" mentality. But they also knew it would be hard.

I've always thought we'd firm the longer it went and after our interview.

Right now I reckon we're a decent shot. But that's only gut feel.

You have to understand that Paul Connors gives inklings to reporters. He won't close the book, and even Judd probably doesn't definitively know as we speak, but they do give clues to the media. It's how it works.

The reason that nothing has broken over the last few days is that it's close. A decision hasn't been made. Rest assured, as soon as there's a favoured club, or clubs, it will be news. That's the nature of the business. They'll be told.

The two grand finalists didn't.

When has that last happened ?

Its quite amusing to see all the puffing and posturing by everyone surrounding the Judd situation.

id be intrigued to know what point of law could actually be leveled re restaint of trade as any person/s is/are entitled to the best result obtainable. Why would Judd be obliged to settelfor anything less than he' can simply to appease aclub or agent.. Again I think its THEY who are threatened. They can see the whole basis of "ownership" of players slipping from their grasp. Connors is correct. Free agency wil come., and it may well be the stuffing around surrounding Judd this year that brings it to bear. Might things get very messy and exhaust time constraints...very likely and possible. Is it Judds fault ? No !!

They..the various parties are acting as if they really have some sort of control over it all; again I profer that they dont. They darent let this "reality" become too REAL !! Other wise their gambit falls to dust.

Everyone wants a result that best suits them. WCE are trying to realise equity on somethoing they dont own or control. Agents are concerned that deals wont go through in time minimising their returns. The league is probably in hiding with head in sand as usual.

Apart from any interest as a Meblourne supporter thinking it might be a tad more than Ok should Judd choose us ( though he stil lwont be the be all and end all many suppose ) I find the whole thing very entertaining and amusing.

Irrespective of the player result one thig is for sure. This is the last year that players, clubs, and trades are done by these rules and guidelines.. It will all change nex year

You raise an interesting point here that hasn't really been discussed as yet as far as I'm aware. What if Judd nominates more than one preferred club to play for?

What do you think might happen then if say after meeting with all four he ruled out the Bombers and Carlton and said it was either the Dees or the Pies for him? Would it then be a case of the Eagles having the upper hand at the trade table, making us and the Pies compete against each other to come up with the most attractive trade offer? If Judd really likes the Eagles as much as I think he does and feels a little guilty about leaving them like this, maybe it would be a way of repaying the club that made him a star.

Just some food for thought anyway.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
