But maybe your right, Motlop and Pickett failed so why bother? <_<

I just don't think that now we can afford 'passengers', whether they are established players or potential draftees.

Draft camp has a lot of psychological tests and interviews to try and ascertain young players' mental profiles ... nothing worse than wasting a draft pick with a 'mental and lifestyle liability'. Again just a coincidence that he's an aboriginal, but that's why Daniel Hayes was overlooked by all clubs in the draft last year. His skills were good enough to go in the 2nd or 3rd round at least, but only Melbourne took him ... in a less risky fashion on the rookie list, where he could really show whether he wanted it or not.

Sampi has a bad history in that regard. If he can't get motivated to play with the current premiers, why would he be motivated to play for us? Don't tell me that Bailey will be a miracle worker whereas Daniher was not. The motivation has to be internal. To me there's too much risk that he'd see us as a soft bed to lie in, given the Motlop and Pickett precedents.

Give me a motivated young kid, even late in the draft, any day.

It would be interesting to see what he's worth to other clubs, but i doubt that the MFC will trade him. He just loves the club so much.

Whether he loves the club so much is irrelevant to determining if MFC should trade him or not.

How much is an OP inflicted player who has not played AFL for two years? Bugger all. Why would a Club take an indeterminable risk?

Absolutely spot on Maurie.

Tiger of old:

Chris Judd dislocated both of his shoulders before he was drafted. He had both of them reconstructed.

From people I've spoken to they say that the shoulder feels just as strong, if not stronger after a reconstruction. This difference is that because you have a screw in there, if the shoulder goes again that screw then rips out some of the bone that it was screwed into.

I don't agree,

I wouldn't trade big for him as I don't think anyone would.

But if he was available come pre-season draft time I would very much like to give him a go.

Even if he has 2 good years and looses it, then so what, move him on. Those two years will be very good. He is a terrific player.

I totally understand where you are coming from, but hey ive just got a soft spot for rejuvinating careers. Not everyone is crap when it comes to a second chance.

Lets get real.

Adelaide would swap a young ruckman for an OP stricken midfielder who has not played for two years and has no sign of playing again.

You have got to be joking.

Adelaide would have rocks in their heads to do it.

Adelaide have a lot of ruckmen and will struggle to keep all of them.

Sellar will play fwd while Ben Hudson and Rhett Biglands are favoured. They'll try to develop 2 of Griffin, Tippett or Maric. Don't rate Meesan.

Give us a trade, Rhino for one of Griffin, Tippett, Maric (don't think he's much chop btw) and let us judge ur trading skills.

I have previously documented on this site that for a trade to go through it has to be a WIN/WIN for both sides. Sure Adelaide have a surplus of ruckman but how do they win recruiting a severely injured midfielder who may never play susttained AFL football again?

FWIW, if this Adelaide player is a capable player (I dont have knowledge one way or other) then its big WIN for MFC. IMO I think Moloney is in a critical position and his two years out of the game so far severely diminishes the potential he has.

Given the price of ruckman, Adelaide would be chasing one of MFC's younger brigade that is not OP inflicted.

I see your point Maurie, but Sampi has talent to burn.

You say we don't need more passengers? We have plenty at Melbourne. Maybe Sampi will come to us, and like you said, fail. But what if he comes to us and reaches his potential?

I think you are taking the half empty approach, where as I'm taking the half full approach. Probably why we can't agree!

For mine if Sampi is available and the price is right, grab him!

Johnstone and pick 21 for Jehrico and Maric?

Don't like this trade, there back up ruckmans back up ruckman. Jerhico has barely managed games this year.

We could get a ruckman who will be better than Maric in draft. And id prefer travo over Jerhico

Pick 21 is enough to get both of them. Hell Pick 21 would've been enough to get Tippett but i would like to see CAC use pick 21.

If only we had another spare pick in the late teens.

Alright, that's the last you'll hear of me talking about Tippett.

Not on your life.

I wouldn't give up a classy player like Travis Johnstone for those two players.

Maybe Jamar, Miller, & pick 21 for Maric.

Jericho is pretty useless for us at this stage...

I know I was the first to mention it but my trade was a lil different than yours.

I'd like to see a new Ruckman - The new player would have to have shown some sort of brilliance at another side before I'd give off anyone good.

Say if Johnstone played for Collingwood, they would probably win a flag.

Travis still has a lot to offer & if we do trade - It will have to be something special.

I agree jacey, unless it was a deal too good to refuse then I'd prefer to develop our own kids.

Bate, Dunn, & Newton are athletic forwards. I still think we need an Ox. This doesn't mean we need R.Murphy but a player of his caliber would be beneficial.

I agree with our defense being a number 1 priority though. If you watch other team's backline, you can notice obvious differences in class to ours.

Also with the ruck position, again your right. Jolly would be a good fit but I think there was too much love loss last time.

Jamar & PJ are good players but I don't believe there really up to AFL standard yet - I'm not sure they will be either.

All I know is, there is going to be a heap of positive changes for 2008 & beyond.

Bailey is one of those positives. He will really get our guys pumped & wanting the ball.

Ok, one person is - David Neitz (club legend, heart and soul of the MFC)

As for every other player on our list, Dean Bailey should go into trade week and put every single one up for trade and see what happens

If we are serious about moving forward and putting together a powerhouse, massive changes must occur

NOBODY IS UNTOUCHABLE (except Neita)

There's quite a few clubs that have already started to make noises about trades. The Bulldogs, Pies, Swans, Dockers, Blues and Richmond seem to be treading down the same well worn path. Like all clubs there's pressure on coaches and footy managers to improve lists immediately.

I think it's very interesting this year that clubs like Geelong, Port and even Hawthorn are flying. They've all sort improvement via the draft (with the exception of specific trades to address weaknesses eg: Ottens and Wakelin). I took Bailey's comments about trading to mean that he's in this camp. Doesn't mean he won't trade, but it's unlikely to be for a big name player.

I like our Under 23 list a lot and consider them virtually untradable (except for the likes of a Judd). I wouldn't expect too much movement from fringe players either as these players are rarely traded. The main bait is some of our more experienced players, and I'd expect maybe only one or two of them to be traded in exchange for draft picks. We may get some excited interest from clubs with a specific need (Collingwood/Bulldogs - Key Forward or Richmond/Blues/Swans - Ruck).

If it were me I'd look at trading two or three of the following players for the right deal: (and this is purely my personal opinion based on getting the best outcome for the MFC).

Travis,

Robbo,

Miller,

Jamar,

PJ,

and either Bruce or Green (but it would have to be a very good result)

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
