Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

A quote from a blue forum,

"I heard from a friend of mine who knows a Carlton board member very well (I will not name the board member) that we offered Judd $800,000 per year plus $500,000 in investments through companies controlled by the Carlton board.

Very interesting, but he still said no. A shame." <_<

If we could snare Warnock through a trade (doubtful i know), there would be little reason to go after Kreuzer. We do look slow in the mid-field, and with Bartram no doubt going to play in the backline and become the heir apparent of Wrecker, we need to find some pace. Of those names, Cotchin and Ebert possess good speed. I wouldn't mind trying to trade a player and picks to upgrade or get another rather high first rounder (again doubtful) and use it to draft Henderson (he has been injured during this year, so hopefully he might slip down the order a little). At 196cm and 92kg, he could become our CHF or FF and work in tandem with Juice, with the likes of Bate and Dunn rotating through the forward line as well.

Given that this draft is being touted as one that's somewhat shallow, maybe other teams might be more willing to trade involving picks.

Ha ha!

Judd would be getting a LOT more than that at West Coast.

If Carlton think they can woo him with that sort of offer, given their on-field position, they are deluded.

Who in their right mind would leave West Coast to come to Carlton? FFS, the man could beat their current 22 on his own, even with the OP.

Judd won't be coming home, as no Victorian club could possibly afford to pay him.

Does anyone have any more information about Palmer and Morton?

This might seem like a silly question, but if this is a "shallow draft" would we really go all out and trade for the latter round picks, even if other clubs were willing?

Judd's OP and injury worries dont exist there just so that judd's price goes down so he can be with melbourne and not damage our salary cap!!

I would kill to have that man (is he joking?)

Let me tell you a little secret, if Judd comes home it will be nothing to do with money. So its not a matter of "affording" to pay him.

I can tell you 110% Chris will make a decision that is best for his family and his future career prospects (which any sensible young man should do) ... NOT money.

I'm 110% convinced he will not even let money enter the equation.

Just another small point ... my mates in WA also don't think this is a "shallow draft" they are spewing their kids played so well during the carnival ... they were hoping to squirrel a few away.

why do people keep saying that Bartram will be a back pocket, more likely to be a bode or some such. I think Bartram is definately a midfield type & a run with player, heir apparent to Mcdonald or godfrey, green or such.

I hope you're right, and you do sound very sure of yourself.

However, his manager and West Coast would be demanding far too much for him IMO.

It's not just about how much a club like Melbourne can afford to pay him, it's also about how much we can afford to give up.

The Judd thing is a dream that I try not to think about.

Brilliant players like Judd don't leave their clubs too often.

With his crippling OP, Judd aint worth half his best value. He cant run and cant kick ATM.

Given MFC's players problems with OP, I would not chase another player plagued with it.

OP is worse than a knee reconstruction. At least there is a set and proven treatment and recovery process.

With OP....its an endless uncertain road with limited upside.

I'd love him to play for us, but the reality is he will probably sign on for the rumoured 1Mil + a year for West Coast on a long term deal. I hope he does before the silly season anyway or the rumours will just be out of control.

We must lose to Carlton, then we will have an opportunity to secure the best talent before someone else, that is all Im thinking about.

Freak, why is your 10th most wanted player a 6 foot tall full forward? Every year a player like him is touted as being a first rounder, but because they can't play midfield they never are. I'd be very surprised if Maric was taken in the top 20.

Fair enough question. But every draft is different, every player is different in each draft from one year to another..so I dont think players from other draft can be compared. Whilst there is more risk associated with forward line specialist I believe Marics' goal kicking ability should not be under-rated. Steve Johnson, Ryan O Keefe, Nathan Brown, Gary Ablett junior played alot of junior footy as almost solely forwards so if the recruiters do their job they should be able to snap up a talented goal sneak here who does have the ability to play half forward.

I do believe however that if we picked up Palmer with our first pick then we should stay away from Maric because Palmer kicks alot of goals himself despite playing substantial time up forward.

aaaaaahhh

at last SAGE words !! I find it absolutely amazing how much this is overlooked, whether it be the Mesiah Judd or our own Beamer etc. For mine the min you diagnose Op the value of any player takes a huge dive. Yes they will still have good games but for the most part you are nursing them, hardly sound reasoning in picking or continuing with a player. Some say thats harsh at worst or unrealistic at best. Id say anyone who considers it anything else is delusional.

Judd no OP...trade everyones grandmothers and first born's...Judd with OP..not worth a zac long term.

Id rather a player with 75% his talent available 100% of the time..( and probably at 50% his pay !!! )

Without really stating the obvious...draft picks only have currency during the draft. weve got some youth still to come through properly. Some will make it..some wont. Nothing Einsteinian about that.

We will hopefully end up with picks 2 and 18...and some others...its the others which might be intersting. These used in conjunction with any "tradables" ( players ) may be a way to sweeten any pies to garner some 'Better' players. After that week the picks obviously carry no currency..( other than our possie in the PSD )

Im for using the early pix to get one or two who can all but walk up start ( well at least play off bench after a good solid preseason ) Use the latter picks to bolster any trades.. We wil lstil lend up with some picks..and CAC seems legendary at pulling a smokey...but I still see this as a bonus and not the prime motive.

Kruezer will go at 1...we'll be silly not to take Cotchin/Palmer...the rest is all but academic. Doubt any Selwoods wil be around come 18.

is there anyone interesting who could be snared with father /son ?

Palmer averaged 18.2km a game on the GPS, now that's impressive!

If we have pick 2 then Cotchin is our man. he is bloody quick, skillful and can get his own ball. he is the class/pace/hardness pakage we desperately lack. perfect fit imo.

If we have pick 4 then things change.

my next option would definitely be Cale Morton. future star, 192cm midfielder who has pace and is just a fantastic footballer who might even go pick 1. if he's gone by our pick then there are 4-5 players who are if the next best group- Ebert, McEvoy, Henderson. Palmer, Grimes, Masten also in the mix

its funny..many seem to think we dont have as much to lose by winning as Carlton... but we do really, just not as abvious until you think through the process and realise who is around come what pick...we NEED pick 2

no i think people are overrating how much we have to lose (by winning).

essentially we will only lose pick 18.

pick 2 or 4 is no difference. Kruiser is pick 1 for sure.

Cotchin, Morton and Ebert are all legitimate pick 2 (which means at pick 4 one of them will still be availabel and we could get lucky and have the best on left). just remember L.Franklin at pick 5. Henderson and McEvoy would also be ripper picks at pick 4. pick 2 or 4 is not crucial.

pick 18 would be great tho. dont get me wrong id long the extra pick!!!!!! but its not on the same level as losing pick 1

Correct. Cotchin, Morton and Ebert are all worthy of pick 2. Masten, Palmer are also very exciting and worthy to be pick 4.

But having Ebert, Bellchambers & Pears or Morton, Greenwood & Simpson running around in the preseason is that much better then having just Ebert and Pears or Morton & Selwood.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
