If the club was holding back it's coaching announcement until every candidate was no longer involved in the finals race then Essendon's defeat yesterday might have solved that problem. As the rest of the candidates are doing their simulated tests or whatever early in the week the announcement will probably now be made sooner rather than later.

Posted

It doesn't really solve anything as Port (Bailey) and Hawthorn (Hardwick) are both playing in the finals. What this means is that Melbourne might make a decision next week if either of the other 3 get the position, which means that if we don't hear anything in the next couple of weeks you would think that one of Bailey or Hardwick will be our next coach.

The Club is not holding back the announcement. They are continuing to work through the process which was looking at an early September announcement any way.

If Sheedy is not appointed I will hit the roof

A golden opportunity is there for a club that has been in the wilderness for almost 44 years to appoint a true legend of the AFL

Think of the excitement generated by the signing of Sheedy

THink of how good it will be when he comes in and sweeps a broom through the place

It has to be Sheedy

Just watching Kevin Sheedy last night - the man demands respect!

It was a privilege to be able to witness Kevin Sheedy and James Hird walk that lap of honour.

The whole time I was thinking - sign Sheeds now! I would love to see Hirdy come over with him as an assistant - can't believe I am saying this as Essendon (sorry Ash!) are amongst my most hated. There is something about James Hird though - you know he is "special" and I think he is very humble too - not like that cheating grass thrower - Lloyd!

Now, that would be the greatest signing in the history of the game. Sheedy and Hird as coach and assistant. My god...

Agreed, I've always hated Essendon but always respected Sheedy and admired Hird. I've never experienced supporting a club with a champion of his calibre, or any real champion for that matter.

why would melbourne pick Sheedy over the others well its simple.

1 ) membership would go throw the roof

2 ) its Melbournes 150 birthday next year and we need some one to talk alot about us and be good with the media .

just as sheedys has signed up for the same job with the AFL next year.

3) Hird has said that sheedy wants to prove that he has still got it and would love a team like melbourne that is ready to play finals next year with all the injurys of this year .

4) Sheedy and ND change teams next year head to head sheedy will want to make sure Essendon finsh lower then us.

Did anyone else see the after match interview with Kevin Sheedy and James Hird? One of the reporters asked Sheeds how he would go hanging up the Red and Black clothes and Hirdy piped in with oh, he just has to change the black to blue.....then they both had a laugh. May well have been tongue in cheek but it got me excited!

I saw that as well and mentioned it in the other coaching thread, with the poll.

Make of it what you will, but........it does make you think ;) !!!

Sorry Queen C - I didn't read your other post - not meaning to steal your thunder!!! I am getting really excited though so I can't concentrate enough to read all the posts! Might just be James promoting his mentor whenever possible but I want it really badly now......

Have to admit that I have often thought Sheeds was living on another planet but that is all part of his act. The man is a legend, doesn't appear to take too much crap and could teach our players and our entire club a thing or two - LET'S GET HIM!!!!

We need to appoint the best coach available.

Sheedy is a football icon but for mine coaching has passed him by. Connolly is too similar to Daniher for my liking.

For mine it comes down to Bailey or Hardwick. Young and desperate to succeed.

Posted

Schwab seems to be getting gradually more involved in the process, particularly since Fagan has stood down.

Could we already have a first choice for the new football department manager?

I'd be comfortable with Schwab in there as well, a capable football operations person with a range of experience.

Posted

Something fishy about all this all of a sudden. Point: When Fagan announced he was leaving the club came out and categorically stated that he would not be replaced in the appointment panel as they would wanted someone who was involved in the whole process from the begiining. Then 5 mins later ( well.sorta ) announce Scwabb will be coming on board. Something a bit iffy about this..Who's been telling porkies ?

Posted

pretty sure we said that this may have come in response to not having a member of the panel with coaching experience...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
