Also thought Montagna was intimating potential Panic attack etc. rather than 'faking'. He would know the plausability of that and the pressure these young men are under playing AFL.

Me too. I didn't get that he was suggesting that Petty was faking it, just a query re concussion and was putting other possibilities out there. They actually went back through the tape and could only find a possible head knock back in the 2nd quarter, but even that looked fairly innocuous.

Unfortunately, I was ill last week and missed watching the live stream od the Essendon game. (it may have been a good thing) I was recovered enough to watch the re-play on Thursday and the only observation I have on the game is WTF????

I did get to watch the game against Brisbane at the ‘G’ and I am very glad I did. I found myself halfway through the third quarter wanting the win and the four points but knowing I would be smiling at the way we played win or lose. It would not have been a ‘gallant lose’, just great that we played the way we did.

The kids really came out to play. They played with a freedom that was not there against the Bombers. Loved Kings comment in the presser regards his attitude to the Essendon game. More concerned about the outcome rather than the process, a wonderful piece of self-analysis that spoke of his connection to the team and players.

A few observations:

·        Our kiddies are developing nicely. They are building game by game which is good to see. I know it will not be a linear progression but a number of them seem to be progressing season on season. Tholstrup and Howes are great examples. I was dubious about Tholstrup’s abilities , last season he looked to me to have more image and substance. Now he is filling a clear role and playing the team game. Howes has just gained so much in the off season. Very reliable, defender this season with great confidence.

·        Chandler is one I have always had time for and now he is stepping up and showing what he is capable of.

·        Very good game from Langford. An early fumble that was very costly where he looked to be more concerned with what to do with the ball rather than securing the ball. Recovered well and went on to have his best game for us.

·        XT had a good first up game on the big stage. Did what he had to do and laid a few nice tackles. Will watch with interest how he goes.

·        It seemed to me to be a pretty even team performance overall. Very satisfying against good opposition.

·        I was of the opinion prior to the start of the season that I would be satisfied with a 2-4 record from the first six rounds. It is great that we are 4-2. The next 6 have a couple of winnable games with Tigers and Eagles and a couple of 50/50 games with Bulldogs and GWS. The other two are Sydney in Sydney and Hawks at the ‘G’. Both difficult but on present form we would be a big chance. Another 4-2 from the next 6 and we are nicely positioned.

·        If we continue to play this style of footy we will be a very attractive destination for a few players.

Once again, there are a lot more things I could include but I have done enough.

Richmond next and looking forward to see what we produce on Friday night.

I dont want to put a dampener on things but....

.. we lost the expected score 88 to 98

Turns out accurate kicking wins games. Who knew...

I'll take that

I remember Goodwin always mentioning expected score the last few years.

Yes Simon, we would have three peated in an alternate universe, not in this one.

Thought Latrelles pass to Roo (not Langdord) in the last quarter I think was awesome and Langford kicked the goal too.

For a first yr player to not only see Roo as he is running flat out but stick the pass to is very promising for the future.

How good was latrells pass to van rooyen in the final quarter?

Ha ha all fixed. I was close as they look like twins 🤣

Has anyone brought up the Warren G sign we bring out to ‘Regulate’ our play?

Commentators calling it Jay Z was cringe

Seems we are the cool kids these days

I took my young son to watch Dees v Lions at the MCG yesterday. Was a beautiful sunny, autumnal day for footy and a great game to watch. Whenever I take him to the footy I don't get to watch the game as well as when I go on my own (snack breaks, toilet breaks, kicking the footy outside at HT etc, lol) but will watch the full replay over the next day or so.

Great to see the Dees able to break away from the stodginess of the later Goodwin years and the fresh faces and ideas have really brought some excitement and entertainment to MFC!

Was that him on the replay doing the jig, with you next to him?

Both in Blues gear, so I'm guessing...

We earned our goals with excellent team play. Brisbane got most of theirs through our basic errors. Without those errors we’d have won by 5+goals. Go Demons.

You are right FD they kicked 80 points from turn overs.!!

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
