PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane

OUT: McDonald, Melksham, Salem
IN: Rivers, Jefferson, ?

Big calls need to be made at selection. I am sorry, if we try to run out with the same team to 'redeem' themselves, I will be livid.

McDonald > Heath - Move Petty back.

Windsor > Laurie - Windsor needs to show some form of desire to get a game.

Tholstrup > X. Taylor - Tholstrup is not a halfback/defender and made way too many silly mistakes.

JvR > Jefferson - Luker can come in if they think he is better.

Culley > Rivers (if fit), if not Onley. - Didn't get anything out of Culley, a supporter from the crowd would've had as much influence.

Salem > AMW - Injured and he is the only half back we have.

Since that first half against st kilda JVR has been very disappointing

he needs a spell in the 2's to build his confidence

bring in Luker Kentfield

tmac - Xavier taylor

jvr - batman

lindsay - amw

salem - riv

I'd start with this, a few others should feel nervous though

Kentfield, Jefferson in for JVR and McDonald.

Petty goes back.

Laurie?

Not sure if serious. (Apart from the fact that you've dropped 2 defenders and brought in a forward/mid).

Midfield will click with Lindsay in the guts

Onley??? Barely sighted in the two’s last week. Will be a slow burn.

2026 will be a development year.

He can’t win a contested ball at half back, what’s he meant to do on ball?

Put a supporter from the crowd in then. Culley was pathetic.

You could make a strong case for dropping half the team

Out. JVR (omitted) Melksham (managed) Tmcd (managed) Salem (injured)

ANW Petty Lever

Howes Turner Rivers

Out - insipid ball watching football

in - some pride and dare! Remember Gold Coast!

thats IF they weren't already lying in the floor.

How nice would it have been walking into the mcg next Sunday 4-1 full of confidence against Brisbane

Most disappointed in Windsor’s game today. After the first few minutes just couldn’t get the ball all day which is a concern. Not on his own of course.

Will be interesting to see if King thinks he would be better served next week working on his deficiencies in the two’s or persisting with the firsts. Thinking he might need some magoos time and have a look at someone else. Maybe Langford in the middle more to see what he’s got there.

Boy we did look slow and sore today, especially TMac and Salem (till injured).

Out: T Mc, Melksham, Salem (inj)

In: Jeffo, Henderson/Laurie, Rivers/X Taylor

Petty back, he doesn’t really solve our lack of skill or mobility from our key backs but hopefully we can get him in some form.

JVR in to the back up ruck to get some hands on the footy.

The mobile Jeffo to restore our forward line to some more run and skill. Jeffo leads up, which in turn helps JVR, Mihocek and Fritsch find space

Hendo or Laurie across half forward. Just to run kms and hopefully have Sharp and Trell make more impact in lesser minutes/in a deeper flanker role.

Hopefully Riv is in down back because otherwise we’re in trouble.

Very much so. We were too top heavy this week. Laurie was stiff to be dropped last week.

Petty goes back for TMac and Kentfield plays forward/ruck. Laurie replaces Melksham as a high half forward. Rivers/AMW replaces Salem. Did not think it that complicated.

Probably lost about 5k supporters showing up next Sunday due to today's loss. A potential match of the round to a game of "How much by for Brisbane". I've lost a lot of confidence in this playing group after today. A win against the Lions and Richmond can only atone for it.

It’s a no to Bailey Laurie. Surely he’s bound for the SANFL or VAFA next year.

Like this line up has balance. We need to inject some pace in our backline and Heath deserves an opportunity. Today was poor effort wise and a statement at selection needs to be made plus there needs to be true competition for spots by rewarding performance in the [censored] show of a competition that is the VFL

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
