Bombers are gonna fancy themselves today. They’ve done it to us before over there and we are obviously slow, fumbly staters.

Hope we get our stuff together soon.

Bombers have fancied themselves all week. They’ve had the better of us at Adelaide Oval on a number of occasions- we need to be at our very best to win today. If we are off 5% - we won’t win. Guaranteed.

Absolutely.

We are the same team as last year all of a sudden.

Headless chooks

Worst footy we could possibly have played and only 4 points down. We will still smash them.

Any other side in the comp would be 8 goals up

D. Turner can not hit a target to save his life.

van Rooyen getting caught out of position too many times

Polite way of saying outmarked.

our run of poor first quarters continues but we are only 4 points down

no need to panic yet but skills have got to be better

We have so many tall defenders that Petty is spending half his time forward. Is this the set-up we really want?

Going forward, when ready, one of him or McDonald go out and Kentfield/Jefferson play forward.

Yeah we need to play them as we would anyone really, with respect and 4 quarter footy (although at best we can only play 3 quarters now because that was average). I think we will turn it around but that first quarter is a good reminder to the boys that they will need to be switched on all day today

Essendon are playing their grand final, we’re gonna have to lift in a major way.

Scrappy . We let Bombers dictate play there. Our midfield beyond Steele and Kozzy is incredibly lacking. Windsor, Langford, Sparrow are really letting the team down and need to get into the game.

What happened to JVR from rd1?

Some of our delivery has been poor but he hasn’t been great, owned by their defenders today. Has to lift, along with many others.

any chance we kick the ball to our forwards adavantge

We just can’t control this at all right now. All the play is by the bummers right now

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
