Will locals go to a practise match when they have to book via Ticketmaster?

Iโ€™ve no idea but I live near Bendigo as does my Tiger Buddy. Weโ€™re tossing up a visit.

My old stomping ground. I was up there for a basketball tournament over the long weekend. It sure has changed a lot.

It's Ticketmaster why are we surprised. Do you live in Ballarat? I would not have thought too many tigers or demon supporters would be lining up for tickets.

No but there is no way you get in the ground without a ticket so the joys of Ticketmaster it was

I got an email saying AFL members and club members get free entry, assuming that means everyone else pays.

The Demons will take on North Melbourne at Casey Fields on Friday 20th February 2026 @ 4:30pm.

Just another reminder that while the main match starting time remains the same, the Casey match starting time has changed. It is now scheduled for 6:30pm.

Also, a little plug for the DAโ€ฆ the sausage sizzle will be running during both matches. Please visit us to sample our fare ๐Ÿ™ You wonโ€™t be disappointed ๐Ÿ™‚

It's the AFL what other organisation has a round before the first round! Isn't the first round the first round and the round after the first round the second round. And these people are paid hundreds of thousands. I think the joke is on us.

My suspicion is that the AFL years ago promised Richmond and Carlton (and/or the free-to-air broadcaster) that they would play the first game of the first round. To avoid breaking that commitment, the AFL plays some games in a round that's not called the "first round" which immediately precedes what is called the "first round". If I'm right (and I've seen no evidence that says this is the reason) it's very slippery sophistry.

If that is true, who would ever trust the word of the AFL again. Come to think of it, I don't trust them to run a fair competition which should be their most basic principle, so I wouldn't be surprised.

LDC I think you give they them way too much credit. I don't believe they are that clever.

They donโ€™t run a fair competition, they run a commercial one.

Change of opponent for Ballarat practice match?

Club email today offers Kayo option, and you can watch the preseason games against North on Friday, and on the 27th the Ballarat game against Western Bulldogs.

Is this a quiet change of opponent, or a lack of attention to detail in the back office?

Both the AFL and MFC websites still have Richmond as our opponents on 27th Feb.

Yeah I got the email.... but no further details were forthcoming, how, when, cost, nothing.... pretty poor but par for the course!

As our (home) preseason game, we should be playing in Gippsland, showcasing our Gippy boys. Having 4 regional games in one town is bizarre. AFL are dumb as dog****!

Just look at the VFL comp to see what a dog's breakfast looks like.

4 of us will def be there ..accom already booked but agree that a Sat or Sunday would have been so much better. Apparently weโ€™re a very popular choice for Sunday games in season proper but score a Friday in the pre season , Go figure ..

It's the AFL, did you expect better? We have a bye in the first game of the new year, lucky it's not the first round of the year that's a week later.

Another email came out today headed: Correction: stream both our upcoming practice matches with a Digital Membership.

This one actually had Richmond as the Ballarat opponent, without acknowledging that they had advertised the wrong opponent in the original email. However it does indicate that you will be able to see the North game on Kayo tomorrow.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
