No - Sinemma was the NGA we could have taken but didn't.

He went undrafted last year... We could have had both those players if we wanted to, what's your point?

Intraclub report | Young Demons dazzle

Caleb Windsor and Matthew Jefferson were standouts in Melbourne's final intraclub.

MIDFIELD speedster Caleb Windsor has again sparkled in a classy match simulation performance, continuing his red-hot training form at Casey Fields in Melbourne’s final intraclub hit-out.

Windsor looked untouchable as he showcased his searing pace, albeit against an understrength midfield opposition with Gawn, Viney, Pickett all in Perth for State of Origin duties and Jai Culley and vice-captain Jack Viney sidelined.

The 20-year-old former No. 7 selection has spent his first two seasons playing across half-back and the wing but could compete for a spot in the centre bounces in 2026.

The electric mover combined repeatedly with Matthew Jefferson and Jacob van Rooyen in the first of three match-play periods, with both of the two young forwards kicking two first-term majors.

Jefferson took a handful of brave, contested grabs including a soaring pluck over a pack of four opponents to round out the first period of action.

The fourth-year forward gingerly regained his feet following the crunching contest but went back to convert and returned to the field to commence the second stanza.

Jefferson soars at Casey Fields.

Jefferson has showed plenty of promise throughout the club’s pre-season after breaking through for his AFL debut and seven games in 2025.

Fellow first rounders Xavier Taylor (No. 11 2025), Xavier Lindsay (No.11 2024) and Koltyn Tholstrup (No. 13 2023) were all busy across half back as the club experiments with adding some class and youth to its defensive mix.

Tholstrup is a strong spoiler down back.

It’s a new role for Tholstrup who has played the majority of his two seasons across half forward and the midfield.

The hard-edged competitor looked comfortable in the defence with his desperate efforts lending themselves well to the back six.

Latrelle Pickett did his Round 1 chances no harm, pushing high up the ground from starting position in the forward line to provide plenty of gut run and linking play.

The smooth mover is an elusive target and loves to take the game on with dash and dare.

The elusive Latrelle Pickett.

Veteran forward Jake Melksham got his first taste of intraclub action for the pre-season, unloading a 65-metre bouncing bomb to make his mark on the afternoon.

Twenty-year-old key position prospect Luker Kentfield caught the eye as he donned a black facemask following an earlier pre-season clash, taking a handful of leaping contested grabs while rotating through the ruck and forward lines.

Max Heath did his part as his opponent in the centre bounces, doing what he needed to as the one recognised full-time ruckman taking the field.

Last year’s fourth-placed Rising Star finisher Harvey Langford showed his usual ball-winning prowess while rotating between the wing and centre bounces.

Kade Chandler was zippy up forward and demonstrated some neat ball use to set up his teammates, with the under-the-radar Demon doing his job with little fanfare.

Veteran defenders Jake Lever and Tom McDonald patrolled the back six and showed plenty of composure alongside their youthful teammates.

A replay of the clash will be made available via the club website later this evening.

YoPRO is feeding the Dees' pre-season progress.

Paddy Cross is another they would look at heavily. Reminds me so much of Fritsch in his draft year at Casey.

I was wondering who that was, yes he looked good today.

Nice hands & can find the goals.

Well worth at look at.

Twitter article mentioned Langdon ran down Ollie Green in a tackle- Dees working early to fend off a potential Tassie F/S nomination.

Oh and where did koltyn play & please tell me he's looking ok

played off half back and did well

Could be a good move for him. Tackles well, good intensity and we lacks small backs

The intraclub report mentioned a replay will be posted sometime this evening.

Think that was Casey's Ollie Green not our future f/s prospect.

OK just tell me how van rooyen went & did latrell play & how did he go?

JVR started very well, might’ve even been better than that, who knows what happened in the 5 minute dead period.

Once they flipped the teams to have good forwards vs good backs and jumbled midfield he was less involved and dropped a few marks but was still presenting well.

Trell probably tried to a bit too much early evading traffic but he would’ve had plenty of score involvements and looks particularly dangerous sprinting to space.

Unsexy player comp - Brad Close from the Cats.

Hopefully no significant injuries. Didn't see Jeffo or Laurie in the last 3rd. Did AJ play at all?

Great signs from Windsor, Lindsay, Roo, Jeffo, Howes and Kentfield from the bits I did see. I like the idea of trialling Tholstrup at half back, he loves the one percenters and will give his all. Hopefully he doesn't try and do too much and makes good decisions by foot.

Thank God we picked up Steele for our midfield.

When I watched the replay, it seems that Jeffo got a cork around the knee area from.when Adams flew in from the side.

Hmm, dancing with your sister stuff today. I want to see how some of these February champions fare up against another AFL team. Lets see how they look against the Tigers and North.

Someone has uploaded the full thing (minus the first 5 minutes)

Sorry, I misinterpreted. It was more that Ah-Mu wasn't eligible under NGA last year.

Would be interested to see if May goes whether we get him as SSP

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
