Agree! Needs to play consistently well now!

I now see him playing more like a bigger Fritta, than a key forward bull.

No problems with that though.

Hnmm I see him as a hybrid Fritta, Ross Brewer, Jack Gunstan type with a touch of Shane Fitzsimmons and Tom Flower chucked in. His new name therefore is Jefferstein

Interesting fact for you.

If we were prepared to give Tom Flower to Carlton, we would have had Wayne Johnston, the Dominator, playing for us from the start of his AFL career.

Tom had played his best game for us against Carlton the season just ended and we obviously thought he would continue, plus we just couldn’t trade our best ever and most loyal player’s brother.

Tom was probably an ambit try on, but we never really offered anyone or anything else and so we never got Wayne.

Our own WJ identified Wayne’s ability at Prahran, after Carlton had overlooked him for two years.

Yes. But not just from game to game, within games. It's no good having a cameo quarter and then disappearing for the rest of the game.

Not saying he does this, but with younger players it's often where the challenge lies.

The best home for perfection is in one’s own mind.

I just made that up.

There has to be a reason for doing something rather than the absence of a reason not to.

I made that up.

Top performers from match sim:

  1. Kozzy - everything he did was brilliant, besides one missed target going in 50. But even the play leading to that was brilliant lol

  2. Roo - it’s no wonder he’s moving well, he’s super fit. & now he’s hardened. Worked really hard today & got better as the game went on. Got high up the ground many times too. & he was rewarded.

  3. Jeffo - was BOG at qtr time. Very crafty & high IQ type guy. Just gotta do start doing it for longer now.

  4. Rivers - he was probably my best or most consistent midfielder today. Just looks to be playing with such clear direction now. He’s leadership is growing. He’ll have a good year Riv.

  5. Langford - just love the way he plays footy & I love that he kicks goals & fantastic goals too. Strikes me as one of those blokes that loves the grind of it. Got better & better as the game went on.

  6. Culley - so strong. Loves breaking a tackle & has no issue breaking them. Was able to get his hands free & give off to runners many times today.

  7. Caleb - cutting lines & angles & with that dash like from season one. Kicked the ball well today. Wasn’t afraid to take the risky ones too.

  8. Salem - him too, just looks fit & confident again. This would have to have been his best pre season for sometime now wouldn’t it? Really hope his body holds up & allows him to go back to attacking the play like he use to.

So, does this mean Mihocek doesn't get a game...

When Jeffo first came to the club I saw more upside to him than JVR because he took the ball in front of him and hasn't been caught under the ball as Weid often was. He hasn't progressed as quickly as I had hoped but I agree he seems to have found a more up the ground sort of role which his pace for size gives him an advantage. The part of his game I want to see an improvement in, is when the ball hits the ground. Some people call it spectating and James Hird called it sheep dogging in his book. Some players see the ball and other players trying to pounce on it on the ground and they can't see how they can possibly get in there and either just stand and watch or circulate around the pack. You only get a split second to decide on a course of action and Jeffo doesn't seem able to react. Some forwards like AJ and JVR love to get in there and throw their weight around, which I'd like Jeffo to attempt.

More interesting facts Tom kicked 28 goals from 26 matches after first starting on the wing, before moving to a HFF, he kicked 5 vs Filth and a couple of bags of 3 goals. At the end of season 79 he waa told his selection would be limited. He trained with The filth and although Tom Hafey wanted him for some reason it didn't eventuate. Later played in Brunswicks premiership team kicking 8 goals in semi final and 5 in grand final. He could definately play and his disposals were damaging. If you want to know who he played like think Bailey Fritsch! His stats alone reveal that he should have been perservered with check demonwiki for further details. One other thing, he is a ripping bloke and sensational single figure golfer!

Not in a million years. If fit

If Brody Mihocek is available and fully fit he is a guaranteed starter.👍😁

The first 3 had inherent "smarts" or rat cunning necessary to be good forwards.

Have seen none of that from Jeffo. He's still more Michael Newton for mine.

Not sure that is correct. He went to Norwood & was a handy/serviceable player but hardly set the world on fire.

Evidence suggests SA football was about his level dont think you can blame the coaches.

I disagree, if you look at his AFL Highlights he had a lot to work with, but under the Bailey years and with administrative issues, hardly anyone came out ok!

That is horrendous - but wonderful to see Carltank so locking in skills.

If they are licking in those excuses for skills, I love it.

I also love it that that my are lacking in skills.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
