2026 Breakout Players

Featured Replies

JVR. If mihocek can play the 1st 8 or so games, I expect Roo to have a breakout and confidence building 1st half. I'm thinking checkers is a bit banged up to play more than half a season and hope he is in cotton wool till round one.

Windsor now has to dispose at full speed better. I believe he can but it is difficult to achieve. This year will be revealing.

May if Petty takes full back, may be revelation in the pocket on second best forward.

In 2024 Chandler went from back of one wing at full speed to cross from one boundary to the other to take a mark at hff. It was 200m flat stick and he kicked from 50. It was demon goal of the year for mine. I expect a big year this year.

See @picket fence , others really rate your favourite player as well.

Um don't need validation or invalidations for that matter, it is after all my considered opinion!

Does the same metric apply to tall forwards?

Yep! 2 goals per game at least 3 even better!

Well, Demonlanders, now that Picket's taken the bait, do I reel him in or just leave him hanging?

Thats not taking the bait, I agree that the metric for tall forwards is goals! You might have a different view, but goals wins games of footy!

🧐

We're going to see Windsor take his gane to a new level and new power.

Watch out for the beast from the east as well

Instead of bagging players, how about a bit of input regarding the thread which is 2026 break out players or is that too hard for you?

Come on Billy, that poster still thinks footy is played like the 70's, get ball, kick ball (and very poorly too). Wouldn't know a footballer if it jumped and bit him on the arze

This was made to replace one that was made at the beginning of last season, one which I only got to wave for one match before it was stolen.

I like knowing that the person who stole it is now the proud owner of something redundant…

Reading this thread just strengthens what I’m already thinking, can’t wait for this season to start. Whilst I’m not expecting a top 4 finish I honestly think we can land somewhere between 8 - 10. In the Aiden Johnson thread many posters used the phrase “he won’t die wondering” and I think that can also be used to describe our season. I turned the tv off a few times this year mid game, not because we were losing but because we were so hard to watch. Really looking forward to playing with some freedom and backing in the natural talent of some of our players.

One of the real benefits of giving Goodwin the flick in my view will be that we start 2026 with fresh eyes and some players will finally be developed and trained correctly and I'm expecting a cross the board improvement in the list.

Its such a shame we wasted 2 years

Damo thanks

Do you know if there is a clip of this?

Quoting from an inside source who I really want to have a breakout year this year, he thinks that JVR and Culley will have great years based on their improvement this pre-season.

Was also interesting that he said the vibe between the players is so much better this year after the changes that have taken place in the off-season.

Neither Pavlich, Stuart Loewe, Bruest, Stevie Johnson etc etc average 2 goals a game.

Quite a bar you are setting.

If Kentfield and Culley can become regulars based on improved form what a bonus that would be! Out of left field (and possibly over the fence) McAdam getting a regular run would be amazing. Just dreaming here of Pickett, Pickett and McAdam running around the fwd line.

Hmm, trackwatchers, is that apparent the vibe between players have improved? (I wouldn't know if Spalding's wrong. But it'd be interesting if others independently have picked up on the vibe.)

It could be fantastic . How often has a team had 3 or more Aboriginals in the forward line?

Flash, Austin Wonaeamirri, Liam Jurrah did they play together?

Carlton had Garlett, Yarran and Betts at one stage.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Freo under Neesham had 3 at some stage

They may have, but if so, all too briefly. 😪

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
