As an aside I hope they put a few on as train on players - we always unfortuately have long term injured that need to be covered.

Interesting that we took him while Ollie Greeves was still available.

Reminds me of Patrick Cripps from those highlights 👍

So, he can throw and get away with it, whinge to umpires with impunity and hit opponents and fool the tribunal? Welcome.

wouldve been a good pick at 30.. is an even better pick at rookie pick 3

Nickname is ‘Ron’ for those who didn’t already pick that up from the footage.

AFL touted him as a top 10 pick at the start of the year.

Never heard of him but one thing that sticks out aside from his size and athleticism is his inconsistent ball drop.

Should fit in like he was born here

I’m putting it out there but there are some comparisons with Adam Goodes…. This one feels like a Daniel turner level gem

Ted, your post is quite provocative ( in a good , npi , manner )

This kid will, imho, be one of those who in history's mirror will cause the 'collective commentary circus' to ponder... how did everyone miss him ??

Hiding in plain sight will often do that. He's deliberately chosen the less well-signed trail.

He simply wants to play footy.

A couple seasons in the gym, a preseason or two and with good stewardship... we might have a pearler on our hands.

A very interesting ( and cluey ) pick by the club.

He needs work. But the elements are there.

Will be fascinating to watch .

Btw... I forgot just how big Kingy is lol.

could develop like tomlinson did and become somewhat of a swingman and some versatility and depth across a long period of time, a player of his size once at afl competent fitness and strength can have multiple careers, 4 years as a big bodied mid, 5 as a key defender

Good pick up imho - height and speed is a great starting point for a midfielder

He might need to polish up some areas of his game, but he certainly has some strong attributes to start off with

Good luck Riley and work hard

Does he have the polish or agility to play mid? Or do you think he will play more like Cripps?

Im sorry.. I'm a bit dim. I took Cripps to be a Mid.

Im inclined to think the polish comes with time and more experience. He doesn't strike me as an inside player. Nor do I see him being an outside runner type of utility. He seems quite happy to get his hands dirty and dig in.

He strikes me as a form of hybrid utility. He does remind me of Jackson in a fashion.

He's raw. I'm sure King has something in mind.

like beelelzebub, I would like the 🤔 back. Isn't Cripps a mid?

Slightly better worded “Do you see him developing the polish and agility to play through the midfield, or is his game style more comparable to Cripps?”

So I guess now we're all considered Onley fans?

Looking forward to Gawn Culley Onley - the tallest onball division in AFL history!

Add to that Langford at 190cm

It's pretty amazing. We were one of the smaller clubs and now are one of the tall clubs now. Lost 11 off our list - 8 of them 175 to 187 and 3 taller than that. Put on 9 - 2 small forwards, 6 talls 192 -205 and Steele who is 188

Love it stinga I remember lamenting our lack of height during latter stages of ‘22-23 where we seemed to be getting outmarked and no one to press fwd. I was desperate for Schache, Verrall and Fullarton to show something but none of them were quite up to it.

Now every where you look we have height and raw talent in abundance just need our coaches and development team to develop and hone their skills to help lead us back to relevance.

Knowing nothing about him but the clips in this thread, I'm thinking we have a good one here.

Pros:

  • Exceptionally clean hands grabbing the loose ball

  • Good below his knees

  • Seems to have good judgement with his kicking

  • Great burst of speed

Cons:

  • Dodgy kicking technique

  • Poor handball

  • I saw several kicks from the 50 arc drop short (see dodgy technique)

  • Didn't see a lot of defensive work

So, he looks to have the vision, but needs to clean up disposal skills to make use of it, and maybe improve his defensive efforts.
