since when could you sign up 17 year olds?

was thinking that when I read the first post.

Perhaps it's like horses and they have different birthdays in the Northern hemisphere compared to the Southern

Well Lions and Saints each sign an Irish boy with big raps.

Original Team that started the Irish experiment has none on its list.

Just saying.

Hopefully these two don’t become stars of the AFL.

Saints tend to have strong appeal to the Irish.

Why is this so?

Besides that. There must be a reason

They let them train in green jumpers and celebrate St. Patrick’s day.

Seriously though have the Saints played a lot of Irish boys?

Maybe they could list the Irish players who played with Saints.

Assumed it was a religious pun tbh

Yes I wasn’t aware of the Irish connection, I would have thought Swans, Blues and Cats, maybe Saints have a closer affinity with the Paddy Wagon🤪

I mean I suppose it wouldn’t be a shock if he went to St Kilda considering that’s where half the Irish start off at when they come out here( myself included). Be a shame though as it sounds like he has a lot of potential.

Redleg and I are wondering why this is so. 😃

I can’t see how we could have got him anyway. We already have Mentha and Berry as cat b’s

Local soccer club (State League 1SE) for that area is St Kilda Celts.

For decades we have had a Macdonald on our list some years some years 2, one was a captain. The lone surviver is Tmac who is likely to only have 2026 left. Get the boy!

saints played an irish guy this year Liam O'Connell, and also have Eammon Armstrong on their list

the article i read said he was joining mid 2026 after final exams, so its probably a birthday between now and them and this is just an official commitment, cat b rookies can be recruited whenever so he can probably be listed now at lodgement to join in june or whenever

st kilda is also referred to s county kilda by expats as the area of melbourne as a huge irish community and presence

Sorry for all the confusion, folks. I was making a light hearted reference to the extreme religiosity of traditional Ireland. At least Demonstone was on the wavelength.

You can have 3 category B rookies

A lot of silly comments posted here.

The Club should be completely embarrassed that it had 2 champion Irish players 40 years ago & has mostly ignored Irish recruits since who have gone on to success at other Clubs.

Another pathetic tale of fail from MFC administration.

So Sinnema can be a cat b and we can add a rookie in the rookie draft?

I would have thought it’s the players responsibility/choice to tell their clubs?
