Geelong request their home game v Collingwood be played at the MCG every year because of the extra $$$ the massive crowd generates.

It's weird seeing "AFL" and "integrity and fairness" in the same sentence without the qualifying "lack of".

Why proclaim in a hissy fit because your son Clayton is leaving that you will leave this site but don’t?

Why not ask everyone who’s ever threatened to leave this site why they’re still here? Why single out PF?

People say all sorts of things they don’t mean when they’re very angry or very upset. It’s an interesting concept, perhaps you’ve heard of it, it’s called being human.

Some of us, probably the minority, are heartbroken about Clarrie’s departure. You may not share the feeling but you need to respect it nonetheless.

Ie., why is he carrying a chicken?

My comrades in the DA have asked me (as our resident crazy chook lady) and I have no idea.

Geelong v Essendon at the 'G has been a 'Farmers game' or something like that for a few years. Cats don't play Dons at the "G this year (Pork Barrel Park only).

Maybe the Cats plan to make round 20 the Farmers game given that there's limited space around their stadium.

I like the Lego having a dig at Geelong version better 😂

I have a little prediction since Anzac Eve and King Birthday are not our home games this year, the AFL has to give us a home game against a big Victorian club (hence why we’ve played the filth twice for eternity) If it’s not the filth this year I’d like it to be a home game against Geelong, and hopefully we don’t play them twice and we don’t have to travel down to that [censored].

My lord I’m vindicated!

It's going to kill our average attendance. Personally, I and my family of 5 will be very unlikely to go to any of those simply because of how late the trip home will be with a school day the next day.

How far from Melbourne are you?

I think the username is an indication. 🙂

Well I’m from Gippsland so at least there’s a reliable v-line train system…oh…

explain to me why we have to play round 1 v a team that has already played a game. its a distinct disadvantage.

ah the good old v-line bus service

It’s probably the same reason Collingwood can just tell the AFL that they aren’t travelling in RD1.

Forget about what happened the year before and who we are playing twice. Who is to say the Hawks are going to be better? The Dockers too? The 'who we play twice' toughness is a myth. What's more of a concern is the lack of prime time games.

That is the result of finishing 14th 2 years in a row.

Agree. As bad as we started this year we would have beaten GWS in Rnd 1 had they not had a game of match fitness under their belt. We only got beaten in the last 30 seconds and it was obvious we were gassed.

No. I actually would be interested in the rationale. What am I missing here?

Not all Clubs are equal 😉

Ever noticed how Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon and Hawthorn tend to fare over and across the different aspects ??

It's all just pure coincidence eh......

And we're not in the Secret Squirrel Power Puff Club 😉

Someone posted on Bigfooty that we have the 10th hardest fixture with respect to the quality of double up opponent.

Geelong have the hardest. St Kilda 13th. Port 17th.

Is there a full list?

Tbf... its arbitrary in a fashion. Is based on what was... not what is...or will be. So I'm not really sure of what value that kind of metric is. Only valid if every team remained the same.... which they won't.

Geelong would make more money out of a home game against the pies than a MCG game

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
