I rang the Club recently to speak to the media folks (can't remember the reason but it was a constructive one) and reported on here. I couldn't get past the membership officer but she told me the media group were 'a team' and different individuals were responsible for different projects at different times. So I don't think there's an AFL/AFLW division?

Maybe the girs are just naturally more fun and entertaining in front of the camera.

Talking of social media changes, a theme I hope is discontinued is those set up segments of the players playing party game type activities (get the ping pong ball in the cup, board game challenges...etc etc). They often featured Max and/or Trac and were so fake, un natural and just completely token time waster type segments 🤢🤮🤮🙄

Gus and Gawny went close

Loved Gus and Gawney bringing in all the new players and sharing the limelight with Ed, Kade and Ben Gibson, felt like we were in the loop. There has been a lot of change around the club and a hell of a lot of new Melbourne talent to be exposed to the MFC audience

I noticed the same thing - seems to have got a bit sharper in the last couple of weeks. Website and socials have been pretty average really since Gibbo left.

Gibbo was awesome and a great example of now knowing how good you have it until he goes. His content was a little ore polished and less social media, but it was really interested content that I always enjoyed.

It should also be said the loss of Gus and Gawny to the club's online presence was felt. I'd love it if it got revived again, Gus could be a little more interviewer of Gawn being a non-player.

On the topic of social media, while I agree that we want something a bit edgy and entertaining, I think there are lines that a club social media account shouldn't cross.

In the recent trade period, I noticed the GWS site practically trolling us with photos of Jessie and Bedford essentially welcoming Trac and Clarry right at the start of the trade period before any deals were done.

I generally like GWS post $cully era, but these posts really got up my nose and feel they were utterly unprofessional for the club's official site to be promoting.

Hate to say it but it's what is passing as a form of entertainment these days. You almost have to troll to get response and engagement from both fans and the media. I get where you were coming from that it felt a bit on the nose, but I feel like we need to start being able to gve as good as we get.

Online for too long we have looked old, bland, and vanilla.

Agree Pates we really need to try and get Gus re involved in our great ( bruised and battered ) club, he would be a real tonic particularly interviewing all our youngsters and new arrivals. So well respected in the footy community, golf clinics, club functions, etc, personality and charisma personified.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
