Any experienced players worth picking?

There are a number of experienced players available to help with the younger players eg Tom Mitchell to help with the young mids

We're good.

We have leadership across every line.

Backs have May, Lever, Turner and Salem.

Forwards have Mihocek and Melksham.

Mids have Steele, Viney and Max.

That's enough for now. Let the kids grow.

I don't think there's any remaining of the calibre of Mihocek and Steele, who are as good as it gets for leadership short of the likes of Gawn.

Keep the flow of kids coming - top few based on talent, then go hunting for smokies with good character.

Plus, we want to be in that mix for 2026 free agents.

Absolutely amazed he's on the market still.

Same. Don’t get it.

I wonder if it’s got anything to do with them delisting so they can pick up as a rookie.

@Demonsone - I’m trying to figure out what your football philosophy even is. You spend half your time trashing players, coaches, and the FD — then turn around and make a thread like this? What the [censored] gives?

Spicy.

Mitchell is worth considering for a 1-year rookie contract on the basis his body is still up to it (passes medical). At worst, he'd create a tough opponent on the training ground for the likes of Rivers and Langford to compete against. He was also the master of running patterns (paired with his endurance), so while some might argue that we already have enough veterans to pass knowledge, if he has a good enough character to lead and teach, his footy smarts are second-to-none. He'd also provide on-ball depth following the departure of Oliver and Petracca (Steele has covered Oliver, but no one has covered the loss of Petracca).

Considering our already squeezed and [now] lesser salary cap, with much offloaded to Gold Coast and GWS. Mitchell in at an insalely cheap price offers value for money.

Probably not. He'll be 33 and now plagued by injuries. His inclusion would mean a potentially good young player misses senior games or even the chance to develop at Casey. Maybe if his attitude was incredible, he's a great mentor, a medical clears him of likely ongoing injuries that's seen him play only 10 games in 2 years AND he cost bugger all then maybe. But I suspect the only way we'd consider him is King coached him at another club. (We should be developing our youth anyway.)

Would prefer Seamus Mitchell to Tom. George Stevens may also be worth a look.

We don't need anybody, go with the kids.

Both very reasonable. Seamus Mitchell could be a capable enough back pocket which is something our list lacks. However I think list spots are very tight, would rather see toby sinnema given that spot and JT given free rein to take a draft punt at 37.

Just getting in ahead of any suggestions we give Elijah Hollands a try.

The thought was making me uncomfortable.

Can someone confirm for me that either these delisted players get reinstated in their club's rookie list or nominate themselves in rhe November draft (or the supplementary ones) and hope they get another chance up against the young'uns? (Oh, and clubs have maybe 44 spots on their list so each is a big decision ?)

Umm, also if Merrett or Humphrey decide that last week was untenable then what happens? Can they nominate for the draft? Would they forced to even go back to their old club if once again they pick them up in the draft? How costly to team and player would it be if any of this happened?

No, because they are under contract and the trade period is finished.

Huge surprise that Jaxon Binns was delisted by the Blues. He’s been in their list for 3 years and simply dominated at VFL level. Still only 20. He turns 21 this week. Message from Carlton FC - happy 21st … you’re delisted . Unbelievable.

He had a few games late in 2025 and his run and carry game was pretty good. He has good pace and endurance. Obviously not impressive enough.

I think he will get a rookie listing or a summer train on.

He’s a local lad from Berwick so the Spector of Casey fields would not be too daunting.

Agreed. It would be far less daunting than this Spector.

Well it's not quite Che Cockatoo-Collins or Steele Sidebottom. But we've gotta get him on our list for the name

Could we get him on the pod with @binman under the father son rule?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
