It looks like these picks will be pushed back to 10 and above. But there are enough duds in the top 10 and enough gems in the 10-20 range to make it almost a 50/50 chance we will get some decent talent even though there is no identifiable junior superstars in this draft.

Do we use both picks or try to trade up to get into the top 5 in this draft?

Isn't this draft the last one before Tasmania comes to [censored] it all up?

For mine ..yes

I think the title of this thread needs to be extended to say in brackets (likely to be 11-12 after matched bids)

So it’s 7&8? Let’s see how that might work out

  1. WCE -Willem Duursma

Suns match bid …Zeke Uwland (academy)

  2. WCE -Cooper Duff-Tytler

  3. Rich Dyson Sharp.

Lions bid match … Daniel Annable (academy)

  4. Rich. Sullivan Robey 🤩

Suns bid match … Dylan Patterson (academy)

  5. Ess. Sam Grlj 🤩

Blues bid match. Harry Dean (Carlton f/son)

  6. Ess. Xavier Taylor

    7&8 contenders

    Josh Lindsay (Vic)

    Jacob Farrow (WA)

    Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (Vic)

    Sam Cumming (SA)

    Lachlan Dovaston (Vic)

    Oliver Greeves (Vic)

    Beau Addinsall (Suns academy)

I truly dont understand the pessimism or obscurity offered up with all those that say ... but the picks are really..

The picks are what they are. Many of the early 'gets' were NEVER gettable.

Scrub those players and the rest is what it is.

It's the same for most clubs.

So pick 7 is still effectively pick 7 for what is pickable

Unless they are the second coming of Ablett (Sr or Jr) let's leave the WA kids there. Save ourselves some future heartache.

The difference this year is that (unluckily) the F&S picks and the Academy picks are all very good players (relatively). In other years they may have been further spread through 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks - thus obtainable selections are further pushed out this year. It is what it is.

Do we package up two picks to go after WCE's 2nd or Richmonds 3rd? I'd say Pick 7 and GCS F1 and maybe a F2?

Sullivan Robey may just be the Oliver repalcement we need.

I think we'll trade both of these picks to get up the order. Will be fascinating to see. King is aggressive and so is Lamb. 👏

We’re in a competition with Brisbane, Gold Coast, the other clubs that get early academy or father son picks.

So when they get picks before us it absolutely matters. It pushes us down the line of talent.

Even if our pick stayed at 7 and 8 unfortunately it’s not a great group. There’s not a quality crop of mids and talls. It’s mostly flankers.

For some perspective its only been the last few years that we have seen Northern Academy players (not FS) feature in the top 5 or 10 draft picks.

So our picks are the 'old school' draft Southern states and WA players.

There are some pretty good prospects at picks 7 and 8 in the open draft.

Since 2020, we’ve used first round picks on Laurie Jefferson JVR and Tholstrup, not ideal, here’s hoping we nail these ones

We’ve also used first round picks on Bowey, Windsor, Langford and Lindsay. Not every pick works out but we have one of the best talent ID teams in the league.

Agree but also got Bowey (2020) Windsor (2023) , Langford and Lindsay (2024). Happy to keep 7&8 and grab

Josh Lindsay

Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves

Then use 37 on Latrell Sumner-Pickett

White and Sinnema

I am being too optimistic

AFL is reporting we also got pick 37 from GCS ?

Quite a haul with their 2026 1st and only giving up 24 and 28 with Trac

We gave them our second rounder for next year.

Why is everyone so keen to write off Tholstrup?

The kid will be fine. He'll get more midfield time next season and he looked great there for Casey late in the year.

The smart move with 8 is to trade it with Carlton for 9 and a 2027 second and a promise of no bid on Dean at 7.

Trading up for sure fire elite talent, all for it if we can, but not sure it exists outside maybe Duursma and very maybe Robey.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
