However, on the off chance it is, Iโ€™m torn as to whether seeing Dimma fail or seeing Melbourne getting a high draft pick will be the better spoil? ๐Ÿ˜€

a higher draft pick that we can trade back to them for humphries? yes.

Suns are probably my second team, but I am happy for them to have a really poor year, if it helps us with a better pick and hopefully then a better player.

Trac ordinary as margarine. Heโ€™s definitely not Butters.

I Can't Believe It's Not Home Brand Butter

Good start to the death ride, yes itโ€™s a practice match, yes GC had a heap of stars out, but they still have the same problem as last year, they leak scores. Also it was in GC right? Thats pretty pathetic considering.

That St Kilda team looks good but is not the best team theyโ€™ll face this year, probably mid tier. Keep it up GC, pick 8 would be lovely!

They ain't half talking up Petracca over on the Suns site

Its a good wrap sheet for a has-been.

Funny doesnt talk about any of his kicking attributes - goal kicking; field kicking etc likely in the bottom quartile of all players.

ALso surprised Clarry wasnt in that list, he must have been awfully close before falling off the cliff 2 years ago

I expect the suns to finish top 4 so i have low expectations about this death ride

if they somehow manage to miss finals that would be an unbelievable outcome

hoping the cats can do us a favour tonight.

Actually clarry has only kicked 58 goals (and 121 Brownlow votes).

Maybe Petracca is not a has been. But his goals and Brownlow votes really dropped off last year. Clearly possessions are not the be all an end all. I reckon the journo went out of his way how to turn Petraccas Suns debut into spin. I mean Tracc has EXACTLY 130 votes and 202 goals(!). A little less of either of them and he would have cherry picked some other BS. I'd feel a little sorry if any Suns fan falls for this and instead of having Petracca circa 2022 they watch last year's shadow.

First player they've had since Ablett that's seen success really.... Daniel Rioli as well of course but they haven't had many on their list who've played in a flag

It's all depends on whether Petracca gets back to pre-injury form. If he play the next five years about the same level as the last one we have won the trade exchange by a big margin. I'm pleasantly surprised what Suns traded. Even if there were no rumours of players clashing with Petracca, at 30 and after such a horrific injury and even with his premiership medallion accomplished he may even retire after three years in the Gold coast with plenty of money, his brand and without the unwavering motivation needed to again be a vital cog in a premiership team.

Ah ok so they included some other random stats to create an artificial pecking order that suits their narrative

I feel the same but then after saying it I felt like I had to wash my mouth out with soap ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

This thread is going to be nothing but pain, haha. If GCS donโ€™t finish top 6, thatโ€™s a win for us

Shouldn't this be

Iโ€™m the same. Iโ€™ll shower with some powerful disinfectant after the game.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
