Petracca for GC pick 6 & 17

No. No. No.

with extra compo and allocated father son and academy priority, they drop to 11 and 25 most likely.

It’s either

Trac & pick 27 FOR Humphrey & pick 14

Or a bare minimum

Trac FOR 6 & 14 plus a player like Rogers.

Or

TRAC STAYS AT MFC

Trac is an elite player. Read his bio and 2025 performances.

Trac's 2025 season shaves off some bargaining power at the table. Not that it was bad by any stretch but GC are going to point to the film and say that he's lost a lot of his damage factor.

A top 5-10 player going into 2025, it's arguable that he would be top 50 currently and that's after playing every game. I want as much as possible out of this trade but will be tempering expectations.

You would hope the Norm Smith factors in but I can't see it being much. Will be 5 years on next year. I recall getting a Norm Smith medalist at around the same age for a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Out of interest, why does it matter if 6 drops to 11 when it stays the 6th ''live'' pick ?

Any F/S or Academy player won't be available to clubs anyway.

His form continues to slide, he continues to baulk at contests, he continues to spin and dump his kicks, and kick more behinds than goals. And he might even turn his disapproving heart on his sleeve in his team mate's direction, literally, like May has in the past. His trade value drops even further when he inevitably asks for another trade in 12 month's time. Can't wait.

It does seem as if some on here dont quite understand that this is the case.

There is more than a few good players that will be available inside the top 15 that id be happy to get.

Let’s not forget we are losing 400 games exp between Trac & Oliver, early picks are only good if we can use to get a exp player, if Humphries is a no & no other mid available then walk away

Because it’s about value, you are adjusting the value of the pick and rationalising and that is fine but then I would prefer if people stop saying “it’s ND6! It’s ND6!;” you are not getting the 6th shot at talent like 15 years ago. You are getting the 11th best shot at talent.

It impacts the value of picks and should be reconciled before executing trades.

absolutely he’s been the pillar of our defence for his entire time at the club and marshalling our defence. Nothing will take away from his feats in having a huge significance in winning our 13th flag.

Our defence was the main reason we were able to go all the way. And I’ll be forever grateful, but he’s no heart and soul like Gus was. We need to move on and start focusing on doing what needs to be done to reach our 14th asap.

You are correct DD about moving on with say Derksen and Adams ( unfortunately no Judd) but half backs we will find or invent to assist current stocks.

What I was was defending Young Angus against his very unfair and highly critical summary of May’s contribution and record since 2020.

Without Stevie no Flag.

I am not so sure about “young Angus” about how young he is but he may only still be 20 years and has forgotten the earlier years of our defence when it was a total brick wall led superbly by Jake and himself.

It doesn’t but you’re not getting the 6th best draftee you’re getting the 11th best draftee in a weak draft.

Agree. Trac had 16 votes in Brownlow and was runner up in our B&F. He had a good year and after his 2024, it was an excellent comeback year imv.

Others seem to be only seeing the “Must Complete A Trade” deal as the only option. We have Trac under contract for 4 more years. Suns need to offer an acceptable level of compensation. If not, we walk away. We shouldn’t just rollover. Suns must come up with the picks and a player.

Not necessarily as your calculation assumes the draft is an accurate gauge of future relative performance.

I'd argue that's only true for the top 5 picks, and even then, there are plenty of top 5 picks that become decent AFL players but are well and truly shaded by players in the same draft who were picked later in the draft.

The handwringing about draft picks and purported salary offers does my head in.

To me the Trac deal is a watershed moment for Tim Lamb - although it can be argued he's already been on the losing end of enough watershed moments.

If Lamb manages to facilitate the trade of Trac for Bailey Humphrey he gets a big tick.

If he can't get Humphrey, then getting Gold Coast's pick 6 and 7 (via St Kilda and Sam Flanders) is also a big tick as it will give JT another two high picks to formalise a very impressive bunch of under 24s. Quite likely he would have to send our three second rounders back to GC as part of that trade, giving them the points they need for the Academy kids.

But ultimately the above two scenarios are the only ones which would give Lamb any credibility, no matter what type of spin he tries to put on it post trade.

I am not sure how many more ways you can be told the same thing, Trac wants out for a whole host of reasons, and the club is happy to comply for a whole host of reasons (pending a good deal).

To suggest he's leaving because of one player is absolutely idiotic.

He wants out, and nothing is changing his mind.

Scully and Trengove come to mind

I wouldn't be surprised if we look to use Petracca + 23 in a deal with GC.

I'd prefer to keep 23. It'll fetch a kings ransom come draft night.

But if its needed to unlock Humphrey, I suppose its ok

Sure but I’m only discussing it in the context of the picks being floated to us for Petracca in a weak draft where much of the top line talent is already picked.

Christian Petracca was won over by Damien Hardwick’s premiership aspirations and determination to hone the 29-year-old’s leadership skills as the Suns continue working on a trade for the Norm Smith Medallist.

The Suns are adamant they will get a deal done with Petracca, who chose Gold Coast over Adelaide after a careful list analysis and meetings with both clubs.

The trade for Suns midfielder Sam Flanders has secured St Kilda’s No. 7 draft pick, which shapes as the centrepiece of any Petracca deal.

While Melbourne teammates wondered if Petracca pulled back from fully investing in the Demons after his aborted trade of 2024, he still finished second in the club’s best-and-fairest this year.

Hardwick was able to bring together differing personalities as leaders in his time at Richmond, with Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt and Alex Rance all pulling in the same direction after the club’s reset in late 2016.

All those players had their unique quirks and strengths but Hardwick was able to maximise their leadership gifts as the Tigers rebounded from a trio of elimination finals exits to win three flags from 2017-2020.

In the same manner Hardwick has pledged to use Petracca’s leadership skills in a young midfielder that includes captain Noah Anderson, Matt Rowell, Touk Miller and Bailey Humphrey.

Petracca can at times wear his heart on his sleeve but is determined to find a new home which will value his unique onfield and passion off the field.

He has four years left on a deal worth around $1.3 million a season with Petracca yet to ask for an extension of a fifth season if he arrives at the Suns.

List boss Craig Cameron said on Monday those conversations were yet to be had but seemed open to discussions on the length of his contract.

When Hardwick met Petracca weeks after the club’s semi-final loss he was still filthy about losing to Brisbane in that clash, adamant his side was capable of more.

If Petracca and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan both arrived at the club and were able to put together full seasons in a team that will welcome academy picks Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson the Suns will be hard to stop.

Melbourne will continue in its attempts to drag Bailey Humphrey out of the Suns despite the Gold Coast hard-line attitude that he will not be traded under any circumstances.

The Hawks would likely be prepared to offer up two first-round picks for Humphrey if he became available but at this stage the Suns are not yielding on any rival interest.

Petracca would play a similar mid-forward role to his time at Melbourne but after being pushed out of the centre square late in 2025 there would be plenty of centre square opportunities.

Petracca and wife Bella were both happy to move interstate to seek a fresh start and genuinely considered Adelaide as a new home.

But in the end Hardwick’s pitch and his desire to play in another side capable of winning a flag saw him and Bella choose the Suns.

While Melbourne has made clear it will only trade him for the right price, the Suns view is that the Demons are happy to move on from him as part of a cultural overhaul that will also see the club trade Clayton Oliver.

Oh yep you know him well :) sorry forgot!

I know first hand he was extremely unhappy with how we allowed certain metrics of clarrys professionalism slide, hence why I asked the question, if we are able to sway him and say hey mate we’ve done this and realised our mistakes etc.

I don’t care if he stays or goes but thought it may be a conversation that we might have with him. Considering we won’t be trading him If it’s not a good offer

Personally think it's gone past that point, mate. I think the most beneficial time for that to occur would've likely been over either the 2023 or 2024 trade period.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
