rogers staying put per cal twomey

I just can’t see us really backing down from Humphrey until the nearly the end of the trade period, if we’ve been desperately keen on him for so long… this is probably our best chance. I’d be shocked if we just settled for 7&8 so quickly

6 first rounders in 3 years sounds like a ripper platform for the future

Absolutely, I think it’s a pretty exciting time if this eventuates.

But the happy clappers promised us it would be Humphrey or the deal is off.

Calling this a “train wreck” is lazy analysis. What Melbourne is doing isn’t panic — it's changing course (which supporters were yelling for the club to do). Hawthorn and Collingwood copped the same criticism when they moved on big names like Mitchell, O’Meara, Treloar, and Grundy. Yet both clubs came out stronger for it. They weren’t conducting fire sales — they were cutting out complacency.

Melbourne’s doing exactly that. Keeping Petracca and Oliver out of fear would be far riskier than trading them. You can’t build a new era while two massive contracts eat the cap and stifle young midfield growth. That’s how you end up stuck in mid-table purgatory — too good to bottom out, too stale to contend.

Trading them now isn’t desperation; it’s leadership. The club is resetting before decline sets in, prioritising culture over comfort. This isn’t a wreck — it’s prevention. And the clubs that have the guts to do it early nearly always come out the other side stronger.

The actions now aren't a trainwreck.

The actions that led us to this situation are a complete and utter trainwreck.

Is giving a pick back essential

There's still time for Ablett Jr to come into the trade package conversation

Unlikely, but I really wish we part with pick 28 instead of 24.

Clubs will likely come knocking for pick 24 on draft night and we could profit nicely.

Not when two of them are Jefferson and Tholstrup and two are unknown quantities in a weak draft. Sounds like a platform for destitution.

Fortunately Jeffo and Tholstrup are already on the list so I doubt we pick them again

Very exciting.

Two more elite talent to add to our crop will hopefully set us up for a period of contending or there about similar to how Hawthorn have gone about it.

Walk away Melbourne..

Let them understand what being serious is really about.

I’ve been in the trade Trac camp all season. For a few reason the main one is that we will get a good return for him to speed up our rebuild/renovate or whatever you want to call it.

Picks 7&8 sounds like a fair trade to me(hold onto 24) although I would like us to improve our 2026 draft hand.

I'm giddying down to he honest.

I can deal with 6 & 7 if it GUARANTEES two stars, but we know there's no guarantees.

Convince me we don't need a ready to go player/pick combo.

I'd prefer Humphrey over picks 7 and 8, but how anyone could think that 7 and 8 is not a good deal for a 30 year old who avoids body contact is beyond me.

I’m torn. The fact it’s a supposedly weak draft makes me nervous, otherwise I’d be fine. It’s not like we would be total babies in the middle though. We still have Viney, despite his limitations, and obviously Riv who is a senior player now. Langford, Lindsay and Windsor still have space to develop. So it’s not the total disaster some are making it out to be.. but I would obviously still prefer Humphrey who is more of a known quantity.

I think we all prefer Humphrey linked in there somehow but unless he comes out and says I want a trade to Melbourne then this just may have to do.

Rogers is now off the board so we can forget him as well.

I like those early picks because Taylor has a good strike rate in that kind of range.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
