Can someone remind me what the Stringer trade price was?

I'd be interested to know where our Clarrie sits on that D(*)H scale...

Ess got pick 53

Ouch.

Same ballpark, pick value; different street, record.

So, D? 🥺

Lazy statement of the obvious, Tom. Stick your neck out; 2025 30s pick = X dollars, future 3rd = Y* dollars.

I'd rather pay no dollars and get zero back in worthless picks

I don't know all the reasons why we are so desperate to rid ourselves of this clown but a future third round pick is simply tokenistic

What a dumpster this fool has created for himself and the club that gave him the world on a silver platter

Whilst I'm more confident in the upcoming new era (Coach, CEO, President) I still can't wrap my head around paying close to 10% of our cap in 5 years time for players that won't be on our list (Oliver, Brayshaw). Let alone $3.5 million over the next 5 years for Oliver to play at another club.

Surely we've seen enough cautionary tales at other clubs recently to start attaching behavioural clauses to these large contracts.

I can't shake the idea that the previous administration was drinking their own bathwater.

Have these incidents and behaviours only reared their ugly head since signing the contract? No warning signs?

The person handing out the contracts is still there.

Giants have just grabbed pick 12- are we about to see the Clarry trade drop?

Pay as little salary as we can, don't care if we get pick 800. A crappy 2nd rounder aint worth it.

You would like to think our brains trust have asked BWS for a 1st rounder if we are paying over $500k a year.

I'm not holding my breath though.

No, they just traded away one of the picks they could’ve used to get Oliver to get pick 12.

Unless we can convince them with more salary they’ll hold out for a future 3rd

We could pay over a million a year and there’s still no way a club gives up a first for Oliver. The on field product just ain’t worth it even if it was paid peanuts.

Where is the KY at? This is going to hurt.

Stringer value dropped because he is injury prone and the fact is that he was shunted by the Dogs and Bombers. Back to Clarry, if he really wants out he take a much lower pay packet then we can accept pick 35. Otherwise we pay part of his wage for pick 12 they can have our pick 24 plus we can have a choice of player outside their top 30 players. Or we pay part of his wage ,take their pick 35 in exchange for any of their players outside or their top 30 plus they pay all of the players wage. Having said all that we probably made a dumb deal. Whist on Stringer the Dons are not paying a cent towards his wage.

You are right, i think he absolutely tries, but his body is broke and i think no matter what he does, he will struggle to get back to the absolute ripping form he was in 2-3 years ago. I hope he can prove us wrong (sort of), but im pretty sure with Oliver, what you see on the field is what GWS can expect to get for the remainder of his contract.

But I cannot see why a player can sign a contract and then " in a huff" walk out on it AND the Club has to pay !!!

This applies to both Oliver & Petracca

You would have to take it that deal.

Whaaaaat ! On one hand we are lauding Oliver as if he is the second coming then ........the above.

Does it get him off our books $$$$ wise.

Look at what Pendlebury , Sidebottom & Howe have provided to C'wood. Oliver & Petracca could contribute in the same manner if they could thonk of anyone but their own egos

Not seeing the logic of both paying a significant chunk of his salary and taking a worthless draft pick.

Suppose it comes down to dollars but what a haircut

paying half his salary hurts.

Sadly agree. No sense paying half his wage for 5 years for a pick we'll probably not use or just throw to Gold Coast anyway.

Future 3rd and approx 300kpa is far more palatable.

I don't think we're being offered that good a deal. I'm sensing $500k or thereabouts

I think you're probably right

A third-round pick for Clayton Oliver AND a huge ongoing financial commitment for Melbourne?

That is sheer madness and if the club is willing to get shafted to that extent it would deserve to become a laughing-stock.

If Oliver goes, Melbourne should pay zero towards his salary. Whether he chooses to take a pay cut is up to him.

I would rather just tell Oliver that he's going nowhere unless another club is prepared to meet his salary demands in full.

If we are going to pay most of his salary anyway, he might as well play for Casey.

And at least throw in a bottle of Veuve, and a 6 pack (but none of that non alcoholic stuff. We are going to need to drown our sorrows).

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
