Your summarising as if it’s all totally Clarry’s fault we are down the ladder.

You fail to give him credit of stabilising his off field happiness and lift in the last few matches in form and confidence. I thought this was a good base to build upon with a new and positive vibing Coach that made all the right statements re our list etc. then has dragged out his whip and decided otherwise without a decent meeting with a Club Champion to give him an opportunity to state his case.

I am not against the restructuring of our midfield, 35% disposal from Trac Clarry and JV cannot continue to be tolerated but surely Clarry could kick 35/40/50 goals a year from a forward pocket or flank. And let’s be honest he would play 2 games at Casey be BOG and demand selection in the Seniors. Which position?

Wouldn’t King be tempted if we were 3 goals down at half time to throw Clarry on the Ball??

Guess what we get up and win and Clarry is back with little changing! Back up to forward pocket as a decoy and kick gatherer near the sticks.

Please tell me this isn’t an unreal prediction so he is not going to get any favors from our Footy chiefs and be sent to Siberia!!

Our No 1 or top 3 player in 50 years has been treated poorly in some respects. He is hurt again and no wonder is looking to go to GWS to a soulless crowd and finish his career.

Sad how he has been treated and we can’t even say good bye and thanks to him.

Hopefully I haven’t ignored his last 2/3 years but we should and have tried to nurture him and support him as well.

All the best Clarry you have set a benchmark in personal attitude to competitiveness on the field. I have never seen a player play the last quarters as hard as Clarry.

Please give him some respect And not replace No 13 this season until worthy recipient arises.

PS Maybe not Humphrey if we can snag him!

Good luck Clarry a decade of determination classic inside mid play and handballs that talked. Only real fault was your kicking but it still passed when your best was on display in our top 4 years and important games and Finals.

Keep healthy and happy and good luck for your future. Thanks again for the memories especially in 2021 and bang bang bang!!

Beautifully put 58er. You have summed up the Clarry situation perfectly. Thanks for your words.

Sadly we don't want a situation like the dogs have had this year where a player just doesn't play and we have to pay him. Clear him to gws for whatever we can get. The alternative is a disaster.

The position of Clarry is not the same as JUH old Dee.

One is not able to play due to his mental and physical condition. Clarry will play at Melbourne or GWS ( or other) if he attains his clearance or he is demon.

Bulldogs have all year adhered to the health procedures and have tried to very silently solve or salvage JUH for themselves. That has proved fruitless.

If you are worried only that Clarry will not play footy in 2026 then relax that’s not going to happen.

I happen to think MFC through our new Coach were a bit dictatorial in their approach as Clarry had already stated he was fine at the Dees in 2026. About a month previously.

Anyone ever think how different things might be IF Oliver kicks a goal rather than that OOF in the dying minutes against Stkilda and we won?

Would Goody still be there? would Clayton? Would Judd? Sometimes these tiny margins lead to big changes.

FWIW I think Oliver will have an outstanding season at GWS in 26 . After that… we’ll see.

Everyone bagging Oliver's kicking yet 2024 Queens Birthday he was the mid that kicked to marks for our first three goals. Lol.

It’s really those 2 errors he made in the last quarters of the Collingwood and St Kilda games at crucial times that contribute to the bias.

From the Alice Springs St Kilda game (inclusive) onwards, Oliver had our teams’s best inside 50 retention percentage of anyone to have played at least 5 games in that period. Of course before that game it was really poor along with our other mids.

You are right, i think he absolutely tries, but his body is broke and i think no matter what he does, he will struggle to get back to the absolute ripping form he was in 2-3 years ago. I hope he can prove us wrong (sort of), but im pretty sure with Oliver, what you see on the field is what GWS can expect to get for the remainder of his contract.

But I cannot see why a player can sign a contract and then " in a huff" walk out on it AND the Club has to pay !!!

This applies to both Oliver & Petracca

Clayton is the best player we've had since Flower. It would take an insane offer to prize him out of MFC. Its a cop out to push him out, and also a cop out to ask him to change his game. How about we work with Oliver, and find out what has changed since he was at his best. My guess, on a quick view of the recent clip in the van, where he gave Dees a whack, and stuttered in doing so, is that Clayton is dealing with a mould exposure issue. Instead of just telling the best since Flower to change his game, actually dig a little deeper and finding out why he lost his form in the first place. We gave Goodwin far more time to improve - than we are giving Oliver.

I’d assume clubs could put in clauses for this scenario but players would have to accept it. Unless the AFL comes in and says ‘player contracts with their old clubs are void if a player requests a trade and it goes through’

I think the MFC has given Clarry “lots of chances”. What Company anywhere would pay a million dollar plus salary for a $ 600.00 output ( & that’s probably generous) for 2 years. Do you really think we can pay that huge salary again in the hope he turns it around. I prefer to remember the great years he gave us & what he bought us & I will always wish the best for him but it’s time.

I think there are good reasons the new coach is willing to let carry go, none of which are public information.

Clarry is in the best physical and mental headspace he’s been in for two years

That’s great news for Clarry and GWS

Definitely feels like the worst possible time to sell for peanuts when the ability to throw away players for nothing is always at your disposal

Understand that King wants fresh air, and support his decision to do so. Just hope the decision to trade both Trac and Clarry for well below market value (unless something truly significant comes out of the Trac trade), doesn’t come back to hurt us

No he really isnt

I would only take an insane offer for Oliver if GWS pay his full Wage and we pick up a couple of their fringe players otherwise it is no deal .

I am sick of this club getting screwed over.

Business aside, it's horrible.

I'm still finding the 4 year gap since one of the best nights of our lives too short. Would have loved Trac and Oliver to go into their 30s at very least before anything like this came up.

The saving grace is that they are both going to synthetic, teflon clubs.

On reflection too, with players of the calibre that they are, neither probably strikes me as being part of the leadership group anyway.

Players that are that good usually hit their 30s and step up into a leadership role (and help the likes of Max and Jack to carry the load)

It's funny but I see the likes of Langford as a probable captain for us in the future even more than Trac or Oliver have.

We have to have faith the coach and club have made the right, hard decisions.

Go Dees

as Goody said himself, he didn’t know his role or what we stood for anymore after winning the GF. If nothing had changed, we’d simply be papering over cracks and letting the problem fester even more.

What has happened needed to happen. One step back then a couple forward hopefully. If the status quo hadn’t changed we’d have taken several more steps back.

As for the booing, I’d rather not. As I’m pretty sure we’d be booing many many times a game given their proclivity for finding the football.

I think we are all devaluing Clarry’s football value because of some off field issues.

The guy was a superstar and could still be a very valuable asset to the Giants. Like Tracc at the Suns, he could be the player to take them to the next step. These guys don’t grow on trees.

We shouldn’t get sucked in to getting nothing for him.

Maybe we pay a bit of his contract, but when Flanders is getting nearly a million dollars a year from Saints and NAS on $2m a year, what would a club expect to pay Clarry, surely well over a million.

So we need imo a good player from the Giants or a very good pick, their 12. I am not saying we get a star player, but maybe one who addresses a need of ours and the Giants have plenty who are not getting a regular game.

Clarry will obviously be a Giant by next wednesday night, but I hope we get something reasonable in return at the very least.

Another one for Lamby and his reputation, if we are paying anything over $500k per annum im expecting a something decent in return.

Now they have picks 14, 35 and 37 which are of interest, they have no NGA players to select.

They are in win mode now, Kelly is out for the year they need a experienced body so it's an opportune time to hit them for picks.

If we get f all in return its embarrassing.

2025 GWS pick 35 PLUS the 2026 future GWS 1st rounder.

Thoughts?

Remove the 2026 1st rounder and you’re pretty close to predicting what will happen I reckon

sounds insane when you think about prime clarry but with the club moving him on we’re no chance

That can't happen.

You would have to take it that deal.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
