“Equalisation”

This is what the lions paid for Will Ashcroft. A side that had just played finals for 5 years.

“The Lions traded out pick 36 and a future-third round pick to Hawthorn for picks 41, 50, 52 and 63.

Brisbane also gave North Melbourne pick 63 and their 2023 third-round selection in exchange for pick 40.”

what a fkking joke!

the points nonsense is BS

Chris Scott is regarded as a great coach but Geelong have fallen short in finals many times now

Last game for Danger or does he go again?

Last week amazing but all year, just ok

Danger mouse has reached his limit. Bye bye Danger & Jeelong .. too many 30 plus that can't run the second half

FWIW, I hate Jeelong but I hate Collibobbles more

I'm glad Brisvagas has their b2b.

Now it's our turn.

Apparently things are about to change, about time AFL!

Geelong, Colliwobbles 2.0 🤭

Honestly between Collingwood and Geelong they must have the most losses in GF and PF.

I chuckled loudly when I heard BT proclaiming that "Brisbane will have a two-peat!"

Um, that's called a 'repeat', BT 🤦

Just now, whatwhat say what said:

wait'll we miss out on a genuine superstar father-son cos we don't have enough points...

It would hurt but it's the right thing to do. The Academies need to follow suit, pronto!

Bad news is that the Lions have the best list by a mile and are young

they could win 4-5 flags all up

Their Coaching in none too shabby either

Adding Draper and Allen next year although I don't think they would be that great the current mix is perfect. Coleman returning is a huge weapon if he can stay fit

Their trades over the last 5-6 years have been great & improved their list, father sons have worked well, their academy has produced Harris Andrews, Eric Hipwood, Jesse Wardlaw, Keidean Coleman, Ty Gallop, and Sam Marshall.

Are the Victorian teams disadvantaged with the academies in Sydney & qld teams??

Gotta break up the academies, these clubs knew the risks deciding to plant roots in non AFL strongholds.

For the draft to be truly fair, no PP’s, no academies and sadly no f/s.

It needs to be 100% open

Academies should not have any ties to the clubs. Period.

Let the AFL run them and then those players enter the open draft market.

Geelong are a good team but they get a free pass into September every season.

They are literally the ONLY team that gets genuine home ground advantage and that dung heap down the highway. Like, a proper advantage. Interstate teams can provide a hostile environment when they play at home, but it’s still just a regular ground.

Geelong’s ground is incredibly hard to play at with its dimensions AND THEY GET TO TRAIN ON IT.

So, 9 home games a year against minnow sides means 7-9 guaranteed wins, then 5 at the MCG where they have no real disadvantage to the tenants, a few at Docklands, etc.

Imagine if we got 9 home games a year at Casey.

They’re still a good side, always have been always will be, but it’s kinda unfair if you ask me.

Keep the F/S but at the right price. Meaning, pay the [censored] draft pick that it actually is.

If a F/S is a first pick then you,as a club, need to trade that first pick. Or not contend for it if can't pay for it.

17 and 7 clearances in a half. Elite stuff.

A risk that paid off.

Yeah, I reckon there’s about at least half a dozen ways of saying that – “to Pete” is probably the clumsiest.

It’s a wonder he didn’t call last year a one – peat 🙄

No, if you want a fair draft it's time for F/S to go....

Huge from Brisbane - showed that their best was still the best when it mattered

And I won’t credit it all to F/S and academies as their coaching and trades have been near best in the comp for years now

But the AFL now have a serious problem on their hands - you can’t claim equalisation and then have a back to back premier add a top five talent via their academy (a year after doing the same thing via F/S)

Reforming the trade and draft system in the name of equalisation has to be at the top of Greg Swan’s list this off season, otherwise we’re going to have an even more lopsided comp in years to come

And unfortunately the Dees will be on the wrong side of that ledger

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
