For reference he was taken at Pick 47 in the draft. I think he is a better player than pick 47, but id want some change from Pick 23 - that is over.

Surely, you realise where he was picked in the draft is now utterly irrlevant ?

Damn. I was ready to trade them #3 Jack Billings for MWH and a 2nd round pick.

Does your Son rate Jefferson ?

No! But happy to give him next year, but needs bulk and build bigger tank!

I think you will find if this comes to pass he will be on at least 800 a year for at least 4 years and to pay for this we will need to trade on Petracca to make salary cap space.

If we take a little off our salary cap and end with a clean swap Petracca for Windhager I think this would be a good deal.

Mind you this is all semantics until Geelong sign off on it. We all know they have first dibs on any talent looking for a new home. It's just a matter of working through issues such as what size farm they want.

Our trading of players over the last few seasons has been next to woeful. Is this dude going to be the exception? I don’t think I could take another Sharp, Schache, Daw, Hunter, Dunstan etc.

Least this is a player who is somewhat proven, I’d put him like melksham, Hibberd or Langdon when we picked them up, issue since 2021 is we have only targeted players that aren’t even playing senior football (Grundy excluded)

don't think targetted is fair, landed maybe

but we were the ones who disrupted houston and ended up handing him to the pies on a platter

remember all the dogga links from earlier in the season too

surely if we were in for windy we had a chat to callaghan earlier this year too

at the end of 2021, we targeted and had an agreement in place to land adam cerra...but couldn't get the deal done

at the end of 2022, we lost dogga for high picks, and brought in grundy for little

at the end of 2023, we lost grundy for little, and used the draft picks we had to land windsor and tholstrup

at the end of 2024, we targeted houston, and rumours are we had the deal done, until we plummeted down the ladder and didn't want to give up the high pick / he didn't want to come to us

we target a lot of quality players, but the reality is that not a lot of quality players move at the end of seasons

the likes of schache, billings, etc. etc. have cost us nada on the trade table, and delivered nada on the field

let's see if we can overcome the biggest hurdle - getting windhager to want to come to us

Wait what? Didn't you assure us that Jeffo has this covered?

Jeffo will be a Gunston type player!

Jefferson is currently 21 years of age.

In the year that Gunston was 21, he had just won a premiership and had kicked 46 goals for the year.... in a premiership year..

Jefferson = Gunston !!

PF jumped the shark back in 2007 with Michael Newton but that is a special kind of delusion.

WE DONT NEED ANOTHER MID WE NEED A POWER FORWARD FFS

Nah our midfield is slow and one dimensional other than with Pickett in it.

No, I am comparing his STYLE of game!

Not the Gunston we'd all prefer, however.

As a midfield coach, what are your thoughts @Pennant St Dee ?

Think you nailed it with his ability to defend stoppage, holds position and moves offensively when the time is right. I like getting him in for midfield balance. Personally think he’s got plenty as a midfielder in terms of tank, shut down and hurt the other way simultaneously which is very underrated

At the right price a yes

Saints had their chance to have Trac and took Paddy McCartin instead.

Juice Newton has been a huge success since he left

Flags and heaps of goals in SA and at Wangaratta and think he’s on about 150 goals in the Ovens and King league this year in his old age

We should have given him another year to mature

Again a lot like Jefferson

Windsor, Rivers and eventually Lindsay, will change this.

i think adding windsor in there changes it up a bit too

i personally like rivers on half back, but will be curious to see where lindsay ends up - he reminds me so much of sidebottom

Sorry meant the midfield now but presume he would be an ideal balance for our future midfield of the same age bracket.

Still feel that Harmes should have stayed as he played the same role to a degree.

I must admit the whole story did sound a bit like what you would get from a manager trying to nudge contract length or $$$ rather than a 'he sees his future at Melbourne' vibe.

THAT interception from Smith in the 3rd quarter in 2021 GF. Absolute game turner.

100% what a moment.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
